FYI, this guy said the EXACT same things to our (South Carolina) players, and then he bailed as soon as he had someone throw some extra money his way. He's an excellent strength coach, but he's no warrior himself and his words are empty. For his own personal advancement, he has a large stake in the kids staying, so don't think he's just some amazing person who only cares about the good of your program.

Every fan base (South Carolina's very much included) has a funny way of only looking at things from their own perspective. If a player like Redd leaves, he's a quitter. If a player like Redd transfers in, he's hailed as an amazing talent and a true Penn State (or insert the applicable school) character guy. Anyway, don't get too high or too low on these kinds of things.

Maybe he didn't want to schelp around in your miserable program, for your cheating coach.

    He's from Philadelphia. He's coached with O'Brien.

Connect some dots before coming on here & vomiting on yourself.

You're really going to throw stones at another program's coach? Wow, unbelievable.

Anyway, you don't disprove my point that his words are completely empty. I wouldn't get too excited over his quote, when he's already used it a number of times at his previous stop. And if he hated our "miserable program" and our "cheating coach" (something of which Spurrier has never once faced accusations), then he shouldn't have been leading the call for the WARRIORS and challenging everyone to prove their commitment to the program when he himself wasn't even fully committed.

The good news is he got positive results, but it should would've been nice if he was a more genuine person. I'm sure you guys will be happy with his results if the player's buy into his act, but it's only a convincing facade.

So what did the Ole Ball Coach tell his players at Florida the day before he was sitting on a stage with Daniel Snyder as the new Skins coach? Let me guess, convincing facade?

The facts are the facts. Coaches look out for better opportunities all the time. I'm sure Craig Fitzgerald is the first person to look for a job with more money, a great and long relationship with the head coach, and a chance to be closer to home. They are human and any of us would do the same for us and our families.

Quit this rationalization BS. He liked the opportunity and took it. It was an opportunity he wanted more than the one he had, simple as that.

Sorry - nothing at all alike about the 2 situations...

Fitz didn't run from a challenge - he took your players to the next level - left when there was no issues at all and everything was good there. And he ran TO the challenge as he knew there was tough times ahead when he took this job.

Not to mentioned the other reasons that were mentioned - closer to home/family, coaching with a friend etc..

  • Lol at the gamecock fans in here. Fitzgerald grew up in PA. His family is here. He is close to BOB. He came here for a lot of reasons. If you dont think SC would have matched Th salary we offered you are delusional. He made you better, trained his replacement, and then took a new job almost entirely for non monetary reasons. Get over it.
