Craig Fitzgerald...

  • Asked him if any players had come to him to talk about transferring, and he delivered this money quote. Thought I would share before I get going.

"I seek them out. I try to when I hear some things here and there. I try to tell them that the easiest way isn't always the best way," said Fitzgerald. "You don't run from things. You seek things out and make something out of it and make it better. We want the warriors, that's all we want. After August 6, we don't want the guys that are on the fence. If you're in, you're in. If you're out, you're out. If you're in that meeting on August 6, what I'm advising is that just the warriors be at that meeting. That's all we want."

Love it! I really can't wait to see him stalking the sidelines during games in the years to come!

I guess I should warn you, if I turn out to be particularly clear, you've probably misunderstood what I've said.

  • Exactly. __it or get off the pot!!! If you can turn your back on this school and support right now, see ya. I get the younger guys looking but any junior or above looking to bail minus PT reasons...no need for you to stay one day longer.

Is he prior Marine Corps? Sure sounds like one.

No. As soon as they squared off the universe would cease to exist

  • I would pay to be a fly on the wall when Silas Redd walks past Craig Fitzgerald for the last time. Fitz's laser beam stare will burn a hole right through Redd.

I think we really learning why South Carolina was upset to see this guy go. I thought it was silly at the time but I can see why now.

I remember seeing/hearing many of their fans would've rather lost Spurrier as head coach then Fitz.

That is such a badass quote!

  • FYI, this guy said the EXACT same things to our (South Carolina) players, and then he bailed as soon as he had someone throw some extra money his way. He's an excellent strength coach, but he's no warrior himself and his words are empty. For his own personal advancement, he has a large stake in the kids staying, so don't think he's just some amazing person who only cares about the good of your program.

Every fan base (South Carolina's very much included) has a funny way of only looking at things from their own perspective. If a player like Redd leaves, he's a quitter. If a player like Redd transfers in, he's hailed as an amazing talent and a true Penn State (or insert the applicable school) character guy. Anyway, don't get too high or too low on these kinds of things.

Ah, yeah, that's his job, it's called motivating. That's what every coach at every institution has to tell his team, every boss at every job should be doing, and it is true until/unless something better comes along. BUT - Maybe he didn't want to pass up PSU and have to go find a job after Spurrier retires in a year or two. Maybe he wanted more money. Maybe both. You're right though, we don't care what happened at SC.

    helpdesk

  • The money wasn't crap. He bailed SC to go help a friend who was going into a war zone. He felt the challenge. He wanted the challenge. The people he left were pretty cozy without him. That's not what Redd is doing. He is walking away from a major challenge so that nobody speaks under their breath when the family walks by with a Penn State t-shirt on. They are embarrassed and going to a cozy situation. Completely different story.
