I know PSU is still recovering from the loss of JoePa and the Sandusky scandal...but just in terms of the sports teams:
Football looks to be on the rise with outstanding recruiting, an overall better staff, new schemes, better S&C, etc. We already have the facilities, tradition, and fan support. Also, the B1G seems to be on the rise as a conference with OSU and Mich looking like they used to, Wisky continuing to play great, and the addition of Nebraska.
Mens basketball also looks promising under Chambers who is proving he can recruit the guys that we were never able to before. If we are able to land Jeter, the next several years could be very successful if Pat can continue to build and recruit. I exect to see more and more wins followed by growing fan support and tournament births.
Hockey is obviously on the rise as we enter D1 play and await a brand new, state of the art, hockey arena. Fan support wont be an issue and the coach seems to be able to recruit well.
Wrestling is obviously DOMINANT under Sanderson. With back-to-back national championships in hand, the Lion grapplers are probably favorites to win again next season. This could be a dynasty for the record books.
Womens Basketball is also looking very impressive under Washington. She is recruiting AA type players and had a very successful season last year.
LaX looks to be on the rise although I dont know much about the team. I know we have had some nice wins recently.
Finally, we all know that our volleyball teams are always some of the most successful in the country.
I believe we are strong in gymnastics as well. I cant say I know much about other sports like soccer, baseball, and softball.
I think it is a GREAT time to be a PSU fan and the next several years should be a great ride with lots of success for our mens and womens athletic teams.

Meh, I think next year is going to be a lot closer to what you're suggesting. But this year...it's going to be heartbreaking to not have Joe around. I'm going to miss hearing about how we might be a good football, about how someone get their rears kicked up around their ears, how licked someone pretty good, I'm going to miss old stories from the 60s and 70s, and references to the classics...I'm going to miss simply never seeing him, even if it's in the booth. That stuff alone, makes it tough to for me, personally, to agree with you, though honestly I understand where you come from. Almost all of our sports are on the upswing.

I'm sorry but I'm just the opposite of you. I'm not going to miss that all. The last few years were very painful watching Joe be a shell of his former self. I heard enough of the generalities and old time stories. This is not meant to bash Joe. It is terrible when people can't acknowledge when it is time to hang it up for the sake of others.

Could it be the best time EVER to be a PSU sports fan?
