Corbett saying PSU punishment is

  • Psu2011 said...

Yea see this is what gets people upset.. You limit it to PSU failing these kids... I think what people are trying to say is that blaming this all and only in PSU does nothing... You had the biggest children's charity in the state let a pedophile abuse kids right under their noses. You have a victim (Aaron Fisher) essentially blaming the AG office and administrtors at his HS... Yet all the attention is only fixated on PSU even though Sandusky wasn't an employee there at the time.

She wrote about the 2nd Mile and had a whole column dedicated to Aaron Fisher.

yes really. Her source could have called any number of people, but they chose her. What's disgusting is that she is garnering awards for being chosen as a PR pawn.

What is even more disgusting is that you are just focused on PSU. There are a lot of people, that knew of Jerry as much as anyone at PSU did. There were rich people, politicians, and other respected members of TSM leadership that heard things and did nothing. People at PSU screwed up, big time, but it's a real diservice to the victims to make it just a PSU issue. If you think the people that have been called out by Freeh are the only ones that are to blame for this you have your head in the sand. All Ganim did was help frame this tragedy as a PSU problem where it was only allowed to happen because an all powerful football program made it possible. You want a story, find out what The Second Mile leadership knew and find out why they did absolutely nothing. Find out why Corbett had one investigator on the case for over a year and then when he gets elected 3x the resources get put on the case. Find out why DPW cleared him without even a watchful eye after 1998. Find out why a victim made multiple reports to the state police, but they did nothing for over a year. Find out why a principle received a report from a student and sent them home to think about it instead of reporting it immediately.

If we ever want to stop child abuse, we need the entire truth in these cases. We need answers to all these questions. We don't need a nice clean explanation for how something so horrific can happen. We don't need people to think it can only happen because powerful people like Paterno and Spanier made sure it was covered up. You assume I'm not impressed with her work because it was bad for PSU. You couldn't be further from the truth. I'm not impressed because all she did was act as a mouth piece for people that had their hand in letting this happen. It's not a coincidence that some no name local, female writer who disliked Paterno suddenly had the best source out of all the big name, connected national media flooded town.

I'm not interested in any more back and forth on this. We clearly disagree and I'm fine with that. You can continue to to think that she broke some major story and earned every bit of what she got. I'll continue to believe that she was spoon fed info from people that benefitted from leaking information. no harm no foul, carry on.

She wrote about all the players... PSU, TSM, SC Police, the high school for Aaron Fisher, Corbett... what more do you think she needs to do to deserve what she got? This anger directed towards her is laughable. She was merely reporting what she found. Sorry if you didn't like it.

I think what she wrote was more fact based and less opinion than most of what I read in the press on any given day. The issue is how it was used and manipulated after she published it. Specifically the likes of ESPiN and the comments of the talking heads starting their diatribe with "in my opinion...." and going off on a less than fact based run of BS.

I don't think Sarah is the correct target here of anyone's venom.

There isn't a single target. The entire media and their biased, irresponsible coverage of this is the target and she had a big role in it.

Exactly. She was a ray of sunshine among the hack jobs that the rest of the press did on PSU.

    lol

She did report on Corbett and the fact that he only had one trooper on the case and that nothing really happened until he left the AG position to be governor. What else would you want her to do?

Gov. Corbett plays unique role on Penn State's board of trustees

As governor, he helps set the state budget allotment for Penn State, a role that often puts him at odds with university officials. As a trustee, he's partially responsible for oversight of the more-than-96,000-student university system.

On a quick skim, I didn't see a single quote from Corbett on why he did what he did in relation to allowing this to fester. There were quotes of his littered throughout but nothing on why he did or didn't do things. So she could ask him about his role as a BOT member, but not the million dollar question of why didn't you stop this when you had the chance.

That's because he already answered that question. (note the date of the article)

Still, let's say that he hadn't answered that. What would it change? Would that validate her all of the sudden in your mind? Would the world turn their attention towards him? No and no.

Investigative journalism would validate her imo.

No the same answer I've given for 4 pages of this thread. She allowed herself to be used so that she could further her career. I'm not saying other people wouldn't have done the same thing in her situation. I sure as hell have no respect for that though. I don't understand why people can't figure this out. I can only say the same shit in different ways so long.

Give me a real example of what else she should have done that would have "validated" her work. That's all I asked. You told me to have her ask a question that Corbett already addressed. Then you simply said that she should do some investigative journalism. So basically, you have given me nothing.

  • I know I've said at least once that she should have figured out why she was singled out to relay info everyone wanted but couldn't get.

  • Some of us think she was a puppet who is the true "one who did the minimum" in this whole affair. Others praise her. Either way, there's one thing I know if I was in her position. I would NEVER sell out my school that I love for a Pulitzer, Nobel, Congressional Medal of Honor, or any other award. I would have dug to the ends of the earth to uncover the truth or not have run a half story. But as others have said, it was just easier to get fed info from people like yourself that were more than willing to throw Joe Paterno and the athletic dept. under the bus, while keeping TSM and the Board clean.

My guess is that those of you defending Ganim also believe that the Grand Jury presentment was indeed released as a "technical glitch". It's funny how that little piece of false information was the basis for the national media to filet our university and destroy a great man's reputation. It doesn't take a tin hat to see right through this entire sham.

So you are saying that Corbett used her as his mouthpiece and then she turned around and wrote a piece on him being critical on how he handled the situation?

    This is just absurd.

How exactly did she sell out her school? This is the argument from her detractors which I do not understand. She is at the very bottom of the list in terms of those who are responsible for Penn State being where it is today, either in reality or in public perception. I've attached her original March 31, 2011, piece below. This was the piece which, by and large, was responsible for her Pulitzer. Whether she deserved it is another discussion entirely. Her inability or lack of desire to dig up the other facets of the story is and should be independent of her work (or whatever you want to call it) breaking the Sandusky Grand Jury investigation.

Remember, however, that this story goes public whether or not Ganim is involved. In fact, her original piece was pretty much ignored by the national media. This whole thing blew up not because of Ganim, but because of the Grand Jury presentation leak on November 5th, and the fact that no one from Penn State stepped in front of a camera for five days.

Jerry Sandusky, former Penn State football staffer, subject of grand jury investigation

According to five people with knowledge of the case, a grand jury meeting in Harrisburg has been hearing testimony for at least 18 months about an indecent assault allegation against the former coach.

Itz... come on dude, let it go. She did a lot of work to get the info that she got. She didn't sell out PSU... he didn't protect Corbett or anyone else. All of her information that she came out with was factual. Don't go outside of PA with that crazy tin foil hat stuff.
