She and Corbett profited the most from Sandusky. She can eat feces as well.

Are you serious? She reported the facts as she found them with little editorializing. If anything, she should be applauded for actually doing some level headed reporting (and yes I think she deserved the Pulitzer).

That's the Problem. She "reported..." She did no investigative follow-up on those so-called "facts". Just blurted out what she was fed with no respect for the other side of the story. Unfortunately what passes for "journalism" today is a mere shadow of its former self.

No no no Lar, she was clearly furthering her career and wasn't doing the right thing by reporting on the scandal. You and I are just too stupid to understand that.

Bingo. And the fact that that's worth a Pulitzer, says a lot about the Pulitzer these days.

Nothing wrong with reporting and furthering her career, but what those of us who actually took the time to listen to all sides and gather the facts didn't like about her "reporting," was that she didn't cite that much of what she was reporting was information from a source (or sources) with a stake in the game. She reported information as fact, that wasn't necessarily fact. Much of it was not corroborated. If a reporter is going to report uncorroborated information, they should make that clear to the reader, IMO.

Good for her though in being opportunistic. I try to do the same thing in my every day life.

Yeah I'm serious, what gave it away? She was used like a tool by Corbetts people. She knew, as any half decent(im giving benefit of the doubt here) journalist would, that she was being used and went along with it to further her career.

Texas, I couldn't care less about the girl. She had her time in the spotlight and may never be heard from again. But (admittedly not knowing the details of her involvement) it seems that people believe that she didn't corroborate anything she was reported. Isn't that what "investigative" reporters do? And what Pulitzer Prizes are supposed to award? Anyone can say or write anything they want and might even be factually right some of the time. That doesn't make it good reporting. Just my two cents.

True. However, she reported things (whether she was spoon fed or not) that nobody else had at the time, and was one of the leaders in reporting of the scandal.

She probably should have looked into Corbett and his involvement, because every story gets better when dirty politicians get involved and it would have brought more light to the situation and probably some justice. But IMO the fact she didn't go after a state governor doesn't make her worthy of the vitriol.

I'm curious as to what facts she reported that you think turned out to not be true. I sure don't remember many.

It's interesting because I think she first caught wind of something going on a message board similar to this and started to dig. As a reporter, you do not really fast track your career, she uncovered and broke a large story. I have found what she has reported to be a lot more down the middle, thoughtful and fact based then most of the other yahoos in the media.

I think it was the state police investigators, while investigating the 2008 victim's allegations, read something on a weightlifting message board about other misdeeds by Sandusky and connected the dots to interview McQueary.

  • Ganim was biased. There is a reason her "sources" chose a young, female, small time reporter, who wasn't a big Paterno fan to say the least. Any seasoned journalist would have clearly seen how they were being used to tell a single side of a story and worked to uncover the other 50%. Ganim was like a child on christmas morning and her gift was being spoon fed info related to a major national story. how people do not see this is beyond me.

it's not about being true or false. It's about not bothering to investigate both sides of a story. It's funny that people think that just because something is factually correct that it can't be presented in a completely biased manner. I see it every single day at work.

As long as the info is correct, you can't be angry. She was giving facts, I can't ask for more than that.

I can. If she is putting herself out there as an investigative reporter she should do some investigating. any moron can spew stories that are spoon fed to them which is all she did. There was a time when getting an award like a Pulitzer required a little more than putting spoon fed facts down on paper.

Really? So you are telling me that every other reporter in the nation could have easily done what she did, but chose not to?

This is a bit disgusting to be honest with you. She worked her ass off on that story... just because the news wasn't good for PSU doesn't mean that she didn't do extensive investigating. What would you have rather her do... try to figure out how Paterno was being "framed" only to come up with some lame ass story about him doing the minimum? I'm so tired of this shit... look, PSU got screwed by the NCAA.... but the PSU leadership also failed those kids horribly. It is what it is.

  • Why the hell is everything a conspiracy for some people? At least Ganim wrote about Sandusky and what was happening with the court case... My beef is with ESPN, who mentioned Paterno about 1,000,000 more times than Sandusky... If you just watched ESPN, you would think this is just a Joe Paterno story.. I don't care about Ganim because, like I said, she actually wrote about Sandusky.

Yea see this is what gets people upset.. You limit it to PSU failing these kids... I think what people are trying to say is that blaming this all and only in PSU does nothing... You had the biggest children's charity in the state let a pedophile abuse kids right under their noses. You have a victim (Aaron Fisher) essentially blaming the AG office and administrtors at his HS... Yet all the attention is only fixated on PSU even though Sandusky wasn't an employee there at the time.

yes really. Her source could have called any number of people, but they chose her. What's disgusting is that she is garnering awards for being chosen as a PR pawn.

What is even more disgusting is that you are just focused on PSU. There are a lot of people, that knew of Jerry as much as anyone at PSU did. There were rich people, politicians, and other respected members of TSM leadership that heard things and did nothing. People at PSU screwed up, big time, but it's a real diservice to the victims to make it just a PSU issue. If you think the people that have been called out by Freeh are the only ones that are to blame for this you have your head in the sand. All Ganim did was help frame this tragedy as a PSU problem where it was only allowed to happen because an all powerful football program made it possible. You want a story, find out what The Second Mile leadership knew and find out why they did absolutely nothing. Find out why Corbett had one investigator on the case for over a year and then when he gets elected 3x the resources get put on the case. Find out why DPW cleared him without even a watchful eye after 1998. Find out why a victim made multiple reports to the state police, but they did nothing for over a year. Find out why a principle received a report from a student and sent them home to think about it instead of reporting it immediately.

If we ever want to stop child abuse, we need the entire truth in these cases. We need answers to all these questions. We don't need a nice clean explanation for how something so horrific can happen. We don't need people to think it can only happen because powerful people like Paterno and Spanier made sure it was covered up. You assume I'm not impressed with her work because it was bad for PSU. You couldn't be further from the truth. I'm not impressed because all she did was act as a mouth piece for people that had their hand in letting this happen. It's not a coincidence that some no name local, female writer who disliked Paterno suddenly had the best source out of all the big name, connected national media flooded town.

I'm not interested in any more back and forth on this. We clearly disagree and I'm fine with that. You can continue to to think that she broke some major story and earned every bit of what she got. I'll continue to believe that she was spoon fed info from people that benefitted from leaking information. no harm no foul, carry on.
