Remember when the heroic, did-what-he-was-supposed-to-do coach Joe Paterno valiantly fell on his sword in November, and told the Penn State board of trustees that there was no need to fire him, he would resign at the end of the year? A bold move by a proud man man, right? Like much of what we once knew of Joe Paterno, this appears to be full of shit. Oh, and of course, it involves an assist from former President, Graham Spanier.

Yeah, how bizarre for an 85 year old man who notified his bosses that summer that he was going to retire, negotiates a retirement package that amounts to just over the one year salary of most high end college football coaches; with some perks after 60 years of service.
Yup, yeah. OBVIOUSLY this shows he was a huge extortionist, corrupt businessman, and all around evil mob boss.

While my respect for JoePa has dwindled significantly over the last 9 months, this is just a whole lot to do about nothing. I think the writing was on the wall for him to retire after the 2011 season. He barely was on the sideline for any games at all. He was ailing, big time. We all knew that and could see it. Of course he had to "finalize" his retirement, yes, even while he was talking to the grand jury during the probe for this scandal. This is just the media doing what they do best and blowing this story out of proportion. Frankly, PSU got off cheap with his retirement package, if you ask me. Of course that doesn't matter to the media since he helped keep the scandal hush hush.

This is nothing. Not even close to news.
The thing is...if Joe knew what was coming, why didn't he swing a deal to retire during the 2010 offseason? Makes no sense to connect this to Sandusky.
What's the next news flash going to be: Joe Paterno actually CASHED HIS PAYCHECKS DURING THE LAST 12 YEARS. ROTTEN BASTARD.

As someone who works in the banking world, it would actually piss me off a little bit if Joe did such a thing. For cash transactions over $50k, most banks require an armed escort, which isn't cheap. Dang it Joe. Direct Deposit!

I recall back in 2004 when the JOE MUST GO crowd was VERY loud, a connected alum that I tailgated with alluded to the fact that Joe would never be forced to leave by Spanier and company as Joe "had dirt that could bury them." Hmmm.......
