Does anyone else think all this non-committal lingo is just BOB being awesome at managing the media? In the end, it all translates to PSU media coverage -- something he's made a main priority since he got here.
but disagree on the conference being dreadful.
The current level of quality is pretty poor IMO. It's going to be OSU, then everyone else, for a while. I haven't been that impressed by the supposed remainder of the crop, (Nebraska, Wisconsin, Michigan) and it gets really ugly beyond NW.
Michigan should be pretty good. I do think it was a poor decision to keep Denard Robinson at QB and delay the transition to what the coaches want the offense to be. Gardner at QB and Robinson in multiple positions is ideal for them at this point, IMO.
But they're building a very good defense and focusing heavily on the OL. Recipe for success, IYAM.
Wisconsin...will have to wait and see. They're actually recruiting pretty well this year. They'll be a notch below OSU, but has enough ability to be able to upset them every so often.
Nebraska - don't see them taking the next step under Pelini.
BTW, overall I agree with you diddy. Just think Michigan will be on par with OSU for the next few years.

I agree with you on Michigan - once they get their pocket passer in there I'm curious to see how the O runs. They have a good freshman coming in so we'll find out sooner rather than later. They're also recruiting well across the board.
The conference from top to bottom is horrendous IMHO. If OSU could go bowling this year we would watch them get destroyed by an SEC team (again). They're undefeated because of the lack of any good teams in the conference.
If Colleen O'Brien is happy, then I say he stays.
BTW, has Comm 497G changed to "Bill O'Brien, Communications & the Media" yet?
I think the biggest factor in all of this is his family and how they feel in and around the community. From the sounds of it, it seems like BOB and his family enjoy State College and their son, Jack, is getting outstanding care. BOB may not show the public that he hates the sanctions handed down on PSU because that isn't what he signed up for but he proclaimed to be a man of integrity and high character and him leaving after one year would be the complete opposite of that. He's assembled a great staff and the players/recruits can relate really well with the staff. Also, if money is the priority, he's better off staying either at PSU or in the college game but I think he aspires to be an NFL head coach, which is fine and all, but hopefully those aspirations wait a few years at least.
At the end of the day, I don't see him leaving.
"DOMINATE the state" - James Franklin 1/11/14
He needs to put this rumor to bed by making a solid statement that he is staying!!! He needs to stay on no uncertain terms that he is staying here. If he says he staying due to the community and his family/son, then recruits, current players (who can transfer), and fans all know he is sticking with us so we all can stick together!!!!
Might have been mentioned but didn't want to go through three pages of comments but there is no way BOB is leaving after this year.
All other things aside, do you think all those coaches would have left other jobs if that was even a possibility. It is not like they were all out of work, they all had jobs.
I doubt some of them are pro material as well.
Its the next day and I'm still waiting for the link that links BOB to Auburn and Tennessee.
The stability is the big thing I think. NFL jobs change all the time and there is very, very little stability in that outside of a handful of coaches. Otherwise, coaches are flipping constantly from one city to another. In college, especially at PSU right now, there is a chance for more stability than what he would get in the NFL. One, maybe 2 "bad" seasons in the NFL and he is gone, having to move the family again. Right now, he has given himself at least 4+ years at PSU, IMO. That stability I have to imagine is more important to him and his young children right now, then jumping ship and having to move them to a 3rd city in 3 years.
Not sure if this is what you're looking for, but here are some links I found on the rumors...seemingly perpetuated by random board posts and journalists who don't get questions answered as they would like:
I agree that Michigan is recruiting well. I'm hesitant to jump on Hoke's train just yet.
As I've watched games this year, I suppose that I've been more startled by the gap in athleticism than ever before...with even mid tier teams like Arizona, UCLA, Baylor, and West Virginia. Top tier B1G teams would have a lot of trouble matching up with those athletes.
Honestly, these "rumors" are not good for the program, even if they are all baseless. OB could have nipped it in the bud with a single word and he didn't. Either he is seriously considering bailing or he made a poor decision to let this become a story. The only way it makes sense is if he wants more money from PSU and is being non-committal for negotiation purposes.
If he's using this as negotiating leverage for a better PSU deal, it will work but at the cost of spooking the hell out of everyone, including recruits and CURRENT PLAYERS WHO CAN TRANSFER. It better move quickly because after the Wisconsin game the whole "We're just focusing on the next game" lingo no longer works.
Well that press conference is only 5 days away, so no reason to get all worked up.
Ok, so AU has to pay Chizik what around $10m buyout? I think Dooley has a buyout too. Not to mention the buyouts to the assistant coaches if that is how that works too (I thought our former coaches got some money).
And now that we know that BOBs buyout if for the extension too, his buyout would be around $18m or so? Then add on top the salary?

"Whoever’s trying to kill me isn’t getting the job done. But one day, I’m going to punch that f___r in the face."
Let's lay the numbers out on the table:
Doing some simple math since I'm an engineer and these writers can't typically do math...
Buyout amount based on 5% annual raise:
2013 salary = 2.415 mil
2014 salary = 2.536 mil
2015 salary = 2.663 mil
2016 salary = 2.796 mil
2017 salary = 2.935 mil
2018 salary = 3.082 mil
2019 salary = 3.236 mil
Total = 19.663 mil
So the buyout this year is almost $20 million. Who's going to pay almost $20 million and then pay him a salary that is substantially higher than what he was going to make? Some school would logically have to pony up close to $50 million when it is all said and done plus, potentially pay off the guy they just canned.
