My heart goes out to the Cook family. NOT!
Somewhere Phil Dunphy is smiling. Gotta think PSU versus Oregon will be the early match on Thursday no matter how tonight's matches shake out.
Did you see Ty Burrell on Conan this week? Dude's awesome. Glad he is a Penn Stater (even if he's an Oregon fan at heart)...
Neither will Stanford. I see a budding rivalry between us and Stanford in the next few years.
nah, missed it. I think he went to Oregon for undergrad and then did some postgrad theater work here.
I am rooting for Texas over USC just because I want Stanford to have the toughest road possible. Stanford is the team to beat in this tourney.
Yeah. He was on Gameday with Cam from MF one week arguing Oregon vs. K State and who was better (Oregon grad and K State grad).
USC beat Stanford this year. Texas always seem to play tight in the big games and I think that is a reflection on their coach. Either way, it should be an entertaining match between these two teams tonight.

Texas got a lot better as the year went on, where it didn't seem like USC did. You make a good point, though. The Trojan girls would be familiar with Stanford and wouldn't be intimidated by them.
IIRC, Stanford starts four freshmen and three of the four are in the top four in kills. I'm sure they are much different than the team we beat in five back in September. Those freshmen aren't green anymore. Maybe Michigan can pull off the upset. There is something about that team ... Michigan isn't that much of a push over.
Jerritt Elliott is a douche. Not a fan of his at all.
I liked what Russ Rose said to the Stanford coach before the match at Rec Hall. Something like "I don't know whether to be happy or scared that the team that beat us last year is now sitting on your bench."
Those talented freshman pushed us to the limit at home in the humidity. I can only imagine how much more difficult it could become. While parity is starting to become a little better in volleyball, Stanford has an outside shot of going on a run like PSU did.
Well, looks like you are going to get your wish. Longhorns up 2-0 and 16-10 in game three. Bad return to Austin for the former UT coach.
pretty impressive performance.
They are totally different than the team that was in Rec Hall in September. We swept them, while playing some of our ugliest ball of the season.
We will see what they can do against the Cardinal - sorry, but I just don't see Michigan even being competitive in that one.
Anytime someone goes 50-8-99 against a team like USC, its very impressive.
Texas looked really good tonight......they will be a very tough match up for whoever they face in the final 4.
Stanford and UM tied 1-1.
You might want to reevaluate that...
Michigan stuns #2 Stanford 20-25, 25-20, 25-20, 25-20. Pretty odd scoring anomaly that all 4 sets went 25-20.
It's the 3rd time in the last 4 years that UM has pulled off a huge upset of Stanford in the NCAA tournament. I guess UM is Stanford's kryptonite.
Someone is going to be surprised when he wakes up today and sees the score.
I watched a little bit of the Texas - USC game last night and the commentators discussed the upcoming Stanford - UM game and one of the main talking points was how young Stanford was. They said their overall youth could end up being a great strength for them OR end up being a downfall. I guess we know which way that went.
I will predict an ultimate destruction of Texas over UM though. Texas looked very good in that USC game. Could very well be another Texas/PSU game for the NC.
Did anyone else watch when they played a few years ago.......might have been the most intense PSU sporting event I have ever watched.
3 of the top 4 seeds advance and somehow Michigan makes it through. I am not only dumbfounded that they won, but that the sets were not all that close against Stanford. Michigan wasn't even seeded and I saw nothing in B1G play from them to think that was possible. I'll give you credit - you gave the Wolverines a fighting chance - if you had the looks you could replace that airhead former USC player in the ESPU studio.
Gotta be honest. I feared Stanford. As we talked about yesterday, Oregon will be a handful and Texas looked like a buzzsaw, but I like our chances a whole lot more this morning.

Every team that played yesterday was obviously one of the best in the country. But we're #1 for a reason. I suspect they fear Penn State more than our girls fear them.
“We need to keep this (expletive) together,” Mauti and Zordich to Hill
IMO, Michigan's season turned around in that 3-2 loss to PSU. Since then, it beat #4 Nebraska, swept #10 Minnesota and beat #14 OSU. Then took out #9 Louisville in the Derby City as well as #2 Stanford last night. They are getting hot at the right time.
That sounds all well and good knowing what they have done in the tourney, but immediately after losing to PSU, they got swept by Purdue and later had a lost weekend where they lost to both Northwestern (freak'n NW!) and Illinois. Then on the other side of things they pulled one out against Nebraska, swept Minny, and won at OSU.
I just think from their lack of consistency in Big Ten play it was next to impossible to see this coming. But now you are definitely right, Michigan is a young team that has found its game at the right time.
