Guys, was hoping we could get an update on AB's status for the spring. Does anyone know how the rehab is going, and if he's going to be participating on a limited basis this spring? I'm assuming he won't be in any contract drills, but I am unsure. I know the normal timetable for recovery is 6-8 months, but I assume the staff will be very cautious with him, and not try to rush him back.
When was his surgery done? July?
Sorry if this has already been brought up.

I would assume the timetable will be close but I cant imagine the coaches will allow contact.
I personally hope he redshirts with Hack. I think we have enough TE's for next season and would like to see him rehab and be ready for the following season. No need to rush I'm at this point. Also, would love to see them both together for their entire PSU career!!
The goal is to have him ready to go for spring practice. Just my thoughts, he won't be a full participant but he'll get some work.

JMO, there is no need to rush him at all. Remember, we are loaded at TE. Lehman, James, Carter ... Wilkerson. Another year of separation wouldn't be a bad thing. Make sure he is healthy; get him stronger and then unleash him in 2014.
Gilliam as well
IMO, if breneman is healthy and ready to go at the start of the season and BOB thinks he can make an impact, i think with out a doubt he should play this year. A few reasons why i think so,
first the kid has been so loyal to the school and been as instrumental in keeping the current class together that i think he deserves a chance to play as a true freshman, the kid had to sit out his senior season which i'm sure bummed him out, it would probably suck to have to sit out another with the talent he has.
Second, if he redshirts and blows up as a RS Junior (or sooner), the kid is probably going pro early anyway. He's an EE which means he for sure will get a degree in 4 years, I figure the best chance you get 4 years of him playing is getting him on the field this year.
Lastly, bob may not even be here his whole career, he may not even be here next year. This may be the only chance to see Breneman be a star in a TE friendly system..
Unleash the beast! I know i can't wait a full year to see this kid play, especially since he'll be wearing my jersey number!!
Agree 99%. I think BOB will feel an obligation to AB and Hack that will keep him at Penn State until they both graduate or leave.
“We need to keep this (expletive) together,” Mauti and Zordich to Hill
EXACTLY my thoughts.
I agree with you regarding obrien staying long enough to see this class graduate, he seems like a man of high character and someone who practices what he preaches. I hope that is the case because i think he could do some real damage if and when he gets 85 schollies again and bowl games are back in the picture. I kind of see his time here much like Jim Harbaugh at Stanford, taking over a damaged program with history in the sport and putting the school back on the map then go on to get a sweet nFL gig..

Kinda agree here. But if he's healthy, and too good to keep off the field, I can't fault the coaches if he plays.
If he redshirts, it will be two years since he will have played a down of football.....an awfully long time for a competitive young man. Look for him to be ready by fall.
Maybe, but is that the wise choice to maximize his time at PSU? If he plays next year, he will lose a lot of potential playing time to a group of TEs that already proved that they deserve a lot of PT too.
It's a nice problem to have, and I'm sure AB is up to whatever is best for the team.
My guess, limited non contact participation in the spring to learn the system and get use the the speed differential. Then in the fall work up to full contact after the knee responds positively to the additional effort and stress. Will be braced all year long to help prevent re-injury. Most likely RS because of the gradual introduction in the fall. The cupboard is full of good TEs right now. Need him for the lean years with bowl games.
Unless he is going to see significant playing time this year I would redshirt him. With depth at TE and coming off the ACL it makes perfect sense.
What is the rush for the spring? No good reason to rush him back for spring ball.
"One man didn't build this program and one man sure as hell cannot tear it down."
my guess is he will participate in the spring, but not "all the way". No contact, stuff like that. He will be 100% for summer. Will he play? I would redshirt him as well, but by him enrolling early - that tells me we will see him on the field this fall.
