I am not sure what to make of the unit.... Carter was the most impressive to me... Lehman also had a nice grab...
PENN STATE FOREVER
Those are TE's.
But the even bigger question is, if Belton can't go, who starts in his place? Day is apparently a great kid but not a BCS conference starting RB.

“We need to keep this (expletive) together,” Mauti and Zordich to Hill
I know.... I was talking pass catchers in general after i said WR... Give me a break its an emotionally frustrating time!!
Lynch should start
Robinson, Kenney and ?
I've never been a Kersey fan, so I'll be interested to see how T. Williams plays. Robinson is hands down the best receiver and I would have liked to see the ball in Kenney's hands more yesterday. Kyle Carter is a player though.
I'm confused.... TE's were good, and Carter and Lehman are TE's. I love Allen Robinson, I think the kid looks completely different from last year and as a sophomore is impressive. After that idk. Evan Lewis shouldn't be seeing meaningful minutes. With young guys behind him give his reps to guys like kinney and some of the freshmen like williams or the younger lewis. Never been a big Shawney Kersey fan, just always underwhelming but he's a guy that needs to step up. We need 3 guys and we definitely have one in Robinson, just who will be the other 2?
Ohio's CB's were giving our guys big cushions initially until they realized McGloin wasn't looking downfield. I was a little surprised (and even more so watching the second time) that BOB didn't try any screens or quick out passes to a WR (not down and out pattern) and let him beat his man one-on-one. Kenney would have been an ideal guy.
Kersey got a screen pass for a nice gain, but I would have liked to have seen Kenney get the ball in space once or twice as well.
why are the WR's a question? They were running wide open all day? I think most caught passes that they should have...this offensive scheme, when we get the personnel is going to give defensive coordinators in the big ten/country fits.
WR's are fine. Matt not seeing open receivers and then missing his throws to the ones that were was the problem.
“We’re doing things we couldn’t imagine,” says safety Stephen Obeng-Agyapong. “But we’re doing them together.”
Getting open and then catching the ball are 2 different things IMO.... We had too many drops.
Base 2 TE Set:
Base 3 WR Set:
Then a million variations off of that with Lehman and Carter. I enjoyed this one in the redzone:
I agree. We've got lot's of talent at receiver both TE and WR and both young and somewhat experienced. Keep in mind this was the first non-scrimmage under this new complex BO'B offense. Obviously QB play is key. I think Moxie did well. He threw 48 passes and had a 56% completion rate. I think he needs to be +60% on the season for us to have success. We do need the RB backups to pick up on the new system. Much as I like Day's heart and effort, he is not the #2 talent at RB. But if he gets the new schemes and the others don't then what choice do we have?
October 12, 2013. PSU 43 - UM 40 (4 OT). Unfortunately this fan wasn't around long enough to see it!
That last one is a run heavy formation, which brings into play PA, and boot lets, because all 3 are excellent receivers as well. You'd have a defensive coordinator playing a guessing game IMO.
What happened to gilliam is he more of a blocking te cause I didn't see him targeted at all and I was expecting a decent ame from him? Thanks guys
I think that was part of it.
I hope to see Zanetello get on the field.
For me it would be:
Lewis/Williams in any 4 WR sets OR flex Carter out
Plain and simple, we need athletes, and guys who can run after the catch, since MM isn't really a deep threat as a passer.
BIGGEST thing for me, is to find a competent RB - that could change the entire dimension of this offense. Put it this way, if Derek Day comes out as the starter against Virginia, I may have to switch the channel ; )P

Who downvoted you? your analysis is dead on. gave you a +1
There is not an issue with the wide receivers as much as there is an issue with the QB play people!!! I think some of you are looking at the drops on the last drive (game was over anyway barring an absolute miracle) and assuming that it happened all day.

This! Well done sir
In one game, you know he's not a BCS caliber RB???? Lol... You guys on here kill me sometimes...
The better question is: Do you believe he is?
I'll give you a breakdown on what I believe seperates good RB's from average ones:
- Vision(ability to see the hole delevop, or sometimes anticipate where the hole WILL develop)
- Burst(this is refering to how quick a RB can get through a hole and into the next level.........ie, this is why the NFL puts so much emphasis on the 10, 20 and 40 yards splits of RB's - I was at the combine this year, and was able to see this first hand)
- Quickness(the quick feet of a RB in the hole can sometimes be the difference between a 2 yards gain, and an 8 yard gain)
- Speed(Some have it, some don't, but trust me..........it makes a big difference)
- Power(this is not always straight ahead power, but also the power to jump-cut, and explode through arm tackles - a lot of guys can lower their head and run straight ahead into a defender and move him a yard)
- Balance(This also emcompasses the ability to absorbe a hit, and keep going after contact is made - did anyone happen to watch Andre Ellington from Clemson vs Auburn?.........if not, go google his highlights, and you'll know what I mean)
- Catching ability(Pretty easy one)
- Blocking Ability and Blitz Pick-up(this one often gets over-looked, but when you get to the next level, it's uber-important)
Tell me, which one of these catagories does(did he excell in Saturday) Day excell in?

This! There was a few plays where our WR's were running fades down the field and they were wide open and Matt failed to see them.
"DOMINATE the state" - James Franklin 1/11/14
The best is when people call for someone to start who has never played a down. They must be sneaking in to practice and doing some player evals.
Hopefully this is addressed in film study. Our D can't bail out McGloin's ineffectiveness anymore. He's got to step up.
