To those who are willing on this board, could you please consider re-posting this open letter as "from an anonymous author" on your Facebook accounts and other Penn State boards? Thanks!
Who WE ARE…and Who WE ARE Not.
An open statement to the Penn State Board of Trustees, from Penn State alumni, students, financial supporters and University employees who by “liking” and “sharing” this statement via social media, agree on who WE ARE, and who WE ARE not.
Marian Barash Coppersmith
WE ARE a group of people who are tremendously proud of each other, and what we as a group have accomplished together through the centuries at Penn State. WE ARE not proud of our current Board of Trustees and the leadership and skill that you have exhibited consistently since November 2011 until now.
WE ARE a group of people who wants to envision a bright and successful future for Dear Old State. WE ARE not able to envision that future because of the lack of confidence we have in our Board of Trustees to lead us there.
WE ARE a group of people who wants to feel comfortable giving exceedingly great financial gifts to Penn State University, when we are fortunate enough to be able to do so. WE ARE not comfortable in even considering such a thing with the current Board of Trustees in place, given the tremendous amount of money that you’ve wasted or cost the University with your mistakes.
WE ARE a group of people who wants to move forward, with continued respect for the horrible things that happened to those children on our campus. WE ARE not able to move forward at this time, because we know that many of the people responsible for not putting a stop to Jerry Sandusky sooner are not being held accountable, while many of those who are being held accountable have not been proven to be so.
WE ARE looking for the entire truth from our Board of Trustees. We know that WE ARE not hearing the entire truth from our Board of Trustees.
WE ARE looking for the truth about how Louis Freeh came to his conclusions in the Freeh Report. WE ARE not going to be taken as fools and cannot be convinced that Mr. Freeh’s work is satisfactory, complete and conclusive.
WE ARE insulted by our own Board of Trustees as you continue to treat us as if we are naïve, beneath you, and who have no place in searching for a culture of pride, transparency and trust. WE ARE not going to be silenced by your disrespectful treatment of us.
WE ARE looking for a completely unbiased analysis of what happened with Jerry Sandusky. WE ARE not confident that the Freeh Report was an unbiased viewpoint given the professional connections between Ken Frazier, Louis Freeh, and Merck’s law firm Pepper Hamilton.
WE ARE looking for an open and unbiased critique of the Freeh Report by the Board of Trustees and a release of all the documentation that was discovered and developed as part of the investigation. WE ARE not going to be talked into believing sweeping conclusions by Freeh and the Board of Trustees, for which we have not been shown legitimate evidence proving such conclusions.
WE ARE going to look at companies like Bank of New York Mellon, Merck, U.S. Steel , Fox Rothschild, Martin & Suhey Orthopedics, Sterman Masser, Inc., and Eat’n Park Hospitality Group in a negative light because of the performance of their executives as members of our Board of Trustees. WE ARE not a group of people who wants to associate ourselves with such companies.
WE ARE looking for a Penn State Board of Trustees who will fight for our University, and do their best to ensure that that the public perception of Penn State’s great history is once again strong. WE ARE not impressed with the way you’ve defended our name and reputation and have in some cases worked against our name in order to keep in line with your own agendas and message consistency.
WE ARE looking for a Penn State Board of Trustees who is courageous enough to place the health and success of our University and alumni base ahead of any personal preferences or professional conflicts of interest. WE ARE not confident that this is taking place.
WE ARE looking for humble men and women on our Board of Trustees who are willing to admit their mistakes, when mistakes are made. WE ARE not seeing this humility in the Board members who have held seat since November 2011.
WE ARE hoping that all those who have been elected to the Board of Trustees and have held seat since November 2011 will resign immediately. WE ARE not going to support you as our leaders until you step down from your positions.
WE ARE PENN STATE. WE ARE not pleased with the Board of Trustees and the way you have led our University since November 2011.
Did you email this to the BOT member/president?
"Beer is proof God loves us and wants us to be happy."
Thanks. I am planning to, but to be honest, I would rather see this gain traction via social media in the masses, where the BOT cant just store this away and ignore it like they do with so many other letters.
Thanks for posting this.. Great post..
