How is WOB in Easton?
My girlfriend and I keep skipping over it due to the huge crowds on the weekend. Due to the long line at WOB, I went to Flip Side two weekends ago and really enjoyed it - average beer menu but great burgers. I had Breckenridge Christmas ale and I was verry happy with a Red Door burger (brie, bacon, scallots).
Anyone ever check out Draft Magazine? It is an online free subscription.
This little gem was sitting in my email box and wanted to share. I think that I have had 1 of their top 25 for 2012... so far. Quite a few sound interesting to try.
Did I see a "Bacon Maple Ale" on that list. Must find and consume mass quantities.......
That is my name on their tops and no one can tell me any different!!!!
Don't know if you'll check back on this thread CBus, but missed this post a few days ago. The WOB is fine, nothing special besides the obviously awesome beer selection. No food, but you can order from places close to it and they don't care (they'll provide menus actually). I can't imagine how crowded it is on the weekends. We were there after a soccer game on a Tuesday night and when I left at a little before one there was still a solid crowd.
Was anyone lucky enough to land a brick of Westvleteren 12? I know the Pittsburgh market didn't get any, but I know a few people that drove into Ohio in hopes of landing some.
I didn't get any, but my colleagues in Belgium just laughed at me when I told them I had friends waiting outside in NYC for four hours to get one for $85. The same brick was sold for 20 euros in Belgium.
Here's how much I paid for it: https://sphotos-a.xx.fbcdn.net/hphotos-snc6/281198_10101433989385664_1338651_n.jpg

The beer sales associate/ buyer at Whole Foods told me to go through Ebay and offer to trade for beer that we can not get in our state. I think he said eBay. He says a lot of beer snobs will trade 6 packs to get things they can't get themselves.
Maybe Sean can set up this service here.
Had myself a Troegs Mad Elf on tap Saturday night. Love that stuff and was surprised to find it in North Jersey.
Ordered it at TJ Smith's in Warrington, PA Saturday night, only to be told the keg had just kicked.
Settled for a Goose Island Christmas and a Chimay Blue. Not too shabby.
Every year a couple families put on this thing called "rally in the alley" ... Admission is a 6 pack of a microbrew.
I don't particularly remember everything I had but it was awesome. It was around Halloween so I had some pumpkin beer, a hex beer, and a couple others. The selection was amazing.
Mad elf on tap sounds extremely dangerous ... Nothing worse than sitting down thinking everything is ok and standing up to find out you are woozy after a few mad elfs.
If winning was easy even losers would do it.
Gotta love those 11% beers.
My wife bought me a magnum of St Bernardus ABT 12 for Hanukkah (special picture bottle). 1.5 Liters of 10.5% wonderfulness. Talk about dangerous.
Picked up a couple bottles of Stone 12.12.12 Vertical Epic Ale for Fitz and one for myself. I'm not sure when I'm going to drink it, supposed to age pretty well.
Did you buy the 3L bottles Andrew?

Ugh, I've been checking in with my store regularly but he hasn't received his shipment of Vertical Epic yet... it's killing me seeing this.
They actually had the 3L bottle in stock but I didn't want to wilt under the $85 price tag. Would definitely be a cool bottle to have.
Founders Backwoods Bastard is my all-time favorite craft beer. Was in Grand Rapids, MI recently and they had this on tap at the brewery. If you're into bourbon barrel aged brews, this is heavenly! Limited production and hard to find; I was lucky enough to be in a liquor store in Kalamazoo when the truck was delivering and I managed to buy a whole case.

Love bourbon, love bourbon barrel aged beers, you're making my mouth water.
I'd never heard of this beer, just called my local distributor and they're getting some in next week. I'm ecstatic. I might buy a whole case myself.
Went all Beer Nerd with some neighbors of mine and spent a bunch of money to have a Christmas beer tasting...
We tried 17 different beers throughout the night and had a great time. Consensus opinions ruled the night, so these might not be my favorites but here are some of the highlights/lowlights...
The beer recognized as the best was... Long Winter's Nap from a brewery in Vriginia. It was categorized as a Triple Helles Bock - and it was really good. Reminded me a little of EKU 28 or Samiclaus.
Fireside Chat by 21st Amendment was generally liked as a nice Winter Warmer.
Avec les Bons Voeux de la Brasserie Dupont which is a Saison, but is not very Christmasy, was universally loved by everyone as something very different from a lot of the other huge Belgiany or Spiced offerings.
Corsendonk Christmas was good as always.
Sammy Smith's Winter Welcome was surprisingly rated very high by most.
Sweetwater's Christmas beer was also high.
As far as lowlights... Someone brought one of those cheesy Christmas beers from the UK that have the humorous labels and names and it was horrible - called Pickled Santa.
There were two from The Bruery which is in Orange County and they were in a series called "The twelve beers of Christmas" - Both the 5 golden rings and 4 calling birds were universally hated.. though I liked them more than most, but would not purchase them again.
Had one of these for the first time this year and I agree it was very tasty.
I did not see any Stone Epic but I got the 16 Anniversary IPA. Also bought 3 Floyd's Zombie Dust which is excellent. It is their apocalypse beer so probably limited release. Will be trying St. Feuillien Grand Cru, Heavy Seas 2012 Plank II(uses poplar wood), and HoptologistD IPA which is really good.
Recently had Lake Placid Nippletop and Ubu which were decent.
HopShop downtown State College had some Vertical Epic left as of yesterday afternoon. May be gone by now.

Looks like we've got a New Years Resolution to work on. I've had five or six so far. Looking forward to the challenge.
I know one thing...the days of buying Busch pounders at Nittany Beverage for $11.11 are over!
