At this point I don't even give a crap about the sanctions, something is going on that the BoT and the Governor do not want investigated. This entire deal smells like dog shit.
What's going on that our own BoT are intent on punishing the University they supposedly represent? "Massochists" is too weak of a word to describe them.
The sanctions should not be the issue. The issue going forward should be the process by which the sanctions came about, or lack thereof. Why did Erickson sign off on the sanctions so quickly? Why is the BoT holding a special meeting to ratify the sanctions after several lawsuits challenging them are launched? Why do they want these lawsusuits to fail before even getting started? Why is the 2nd Mile being dismantled so quickly and ending their own internal investigation?
Theses questions are not being asked b/c the freaking media is so fixated on football. If football is the GD problem, then start paying attention to something else! Wake the F up and do some investigating instead of rehashing the same old B.S. about "football culture". Move beyond football and do some critical thinking! After all, we should be stressing academics now, so perhaps the media should head Emmert's words as well.
All of Erickson & the BoT's actions up to this point seem to indicate they are hiding something and making sure the focus is on football. The question that needs to be answered is why, what are they hiding? Why is Corbett trying to make this go away? What is his role in this entire thing from 2008 until now? And how can we move forward and make sure this never happens again if the people leading our University are still hiding something? Why is the Freeh Report being taken as gospel when anyone with a Penn State education can read it and immediately point out flaws in the logic and conclusions?
The groups suing should add a caveat to their suits, that they will drop all opposition to the sanctions if a full and independent investigation is conducted into the PSU administration.

I remember a statement from one the board members that they never accepted the Freek report when it was announced, they went into budget meetings. So the NCAA would have used something to penalize Penn State they BOT's never accepted. It could be the NCAA again forcing the issue.
Also, is Gene Marsh ( the former chairman of the NCAA's infractions committee) still on PSU's payroll? Maybe he is still working angle for them?
Folks, check the link to the press release. WE CAN LISTEN IN ON THIS CONFERENCE CALL. WE ALL NEED TO DO THIS AND TAKE VERY CAREFUL NOTES ABOUT WHO SAYS WHAT.
"The Penn State Board of Trustees will hold a special meeting via conference call at 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 12. The sole purpose of the special meeting is for the trustees to consider ratification of the binding consent decree imposed by the NCAA and accepted by the University. The public can listen to the meeting at WPSU.org/live online.
In addition, those interested may also call in to the following conference call number, which is available on a first-come, first-served basis with a limit of 50 people: 1-866-393-1766. The following access code is required: * 1855# (star, 1855, pound key)."
The BOT is doing their damnest to deflect this issue from their house. Not actually accepting the NCAA decree and not actually giving RTDE the authority to sigh the document gives them outs if the public backlash is too great. I think the BOT has tested the market and has underestimated the resolve of some to call BS. Fellow board members, Paternos, letterman and Responsible Stewardship (?) have all stepped up to fill the leadership void the BOT has created.
I'm not getting my hopes up for the outcome Sunday, because the BOT has proven without a doubt that they are up to the task to severely disappoint me. However, at what point do they try to save face when the alumni are pissed, their own board members are pissed, letterman are pissed and organizations that typically support PSU are up in arms?
I wish I could + this twice. Proper perspective and logical thinking. Thank u for the post. I've been disgusted with the passive apologetic response of our bot this far, but deciding to legally fight the sanctions would probably be the worst move of all so far.
Oh to be a fly on the wall at this pow wow. The are going to vote to accept it, present it as a unified stance. We all know four have split from the pack. Have to tell you guys this is why I left the last site. I thought that the people who run the site were pushing the move on nothing to see here agenda. You can be all in for OB and the team and still think for yourself IMO
Yes, however that line "first come first served limit 50" doesn't leave much wiggle room for all who want to listen in. Hopefully one of the 50 keeps count of the voters and let us know.
Chiro, YOU CAN LISTEN IN. SEE MY PRIOR POST.
Dan, read it again. You can CALL IN (only 50 people) OR STREAM IT ON THE WEB (everyone else).
The public can listen to the meeting at WPSU.org/live online.
Actually you (we all can) can be a fly on the wall. As pointed out in the link and by PennSt8er, the conference call will be streamed live. You can even call in to be a participant - if you are one of the lucky first 50. Now whether the call is on a seven second delay to allow them to mute certain portions or names... I guess we'll see. Bring popcorn.
Oops, missed the web link to listen in, thanks.
Someone on the other site says the actual meeting was Tuesday and Sunday is only the vote??? Can anyone confirm? Does this violate the Sunshine laws again??? I am so PISSED at these lame asses.
I have a ton of respect for Coach OB and think he's done an excellent job to date, but he isn't a Penn Stater, and because of that it's MUCH easier for him to say "let's just move on". We're trying to save our own history, a history he has nothing to do with.

I just want to see Marky E in court justify his rational for sanctions against PSU. He nor the NCAA haven't done any investigation pertaining to PSU, and their decision is based on the Freeh report. He would look like an absolute fool.
Anyway bigger picture here, is that if these sanctions pass, the NCAA has set a precedent where they can punish a school based on sh@t posted on a website, whose conclusions haven't been validated by an outside party. In a world that demands authenticity, that requires an editor and reviewers have to accept a writting before publication. In court a judge decides what can be interpreted as fact. Even in government the branches are designed to balance power. There is NO checks and balances in this whole process. After their response to UNC, the NCAA continues to distance themselves from the football powerhouses almost provoking them to disassociate.
Seriously. FJP criticizing people for "harping over" stuff? I've seen it all.
You're such a freaking idiot. Name one person who gives a shit about the "wins record" relative to the real sanctions. In other words, find me one person that wouldn't gladly give up the "wins record" to not have the other sanctions.
This (outrage) is NOTHING, or at least very VERY little, about a "wins record."
Making stuff up might make you FEEL smarter, but it doesn't actually make you any smarter. In fact, it makes you the opposite of smarter.
