Penn State sports information just confirmed that senior guard Tim Frazier will have surgery today to repair a ruptured left Achilles tendon.
He is out for the remainder of the season.

Oh, and this is really bad.
“We’re doing things we couldn’t imagine,” says safety Stephen Obeng-Agyapong. “But we’re doing them together.”
oh sweet jesus, now there's no way i can watch the hoops team this year.
That was my first question. He can redshirt, right? I think as long as you played in less than 10% of the games that's an option.
First Mauti and now this? I'm ready for some good news for once...
And the black cloud follows this university over to the Jordan Center. Unbelievable. Will this team win a conference game all year now? When does it end already!!!

No! No! God nooooo!
Frazier did not use his redshirt yet and he hasn't played in enough games this season to burn it.
It could be interesting watching him playing with some of the guys coming on board next year.
But this season could be a loooooooooonnnng one.
Annnnddd... season in the toilet. Sucks.
But yeah, next year should be interesting.
Very interesting indeed. Everybody on the team is going to get a lot more touches now which will only make them better. Frazier comes back next year, add in the fresh talent of the recruiting class. 2013-2014 has some serious potential.
But this year is going to suck balls.
Terrible news for this year, but I'd rather have Tim for next year than this year. We'll be a much more talented team next season and Tim could really show Geno Thorpe the ropes.
What happens as far as the scholarship count though? I'm pretty sure we have a full roster of scholarship players and now with Tim possibly coming back we'd be one over. Does his not count because he got a medical redshirt?
Such terrible news for Tim and the team.
I watched the game on Sunday and they played well without him for the first half but I think after the reality set it that he wasn't returning it took a lot of air out of the effort. At least now they know the situation and can move forward. I expect DJ and Marshall to step up bigtime but the lack of a true PG on the squad is going to plague this team all season. This should get Akosa on floor more than PC probably planned but it can only be good for the future.
Really sucks for Tim.
On the "bright" side, this will hopefully help the development of the other players, knowing they have to gets points without Tim on the floor.
Good luck to him in recovering.
Is there room for him to come back, if he wants? I thought we were full next year assuming he moved on.
They'll find room.
What is the prognosis for ruptured achilles? Will he be 100% by the start of next season (if he comes back)?
no, there is no room. We are currently full for next year. If he comes back, someone will have to go.... the 5th year guys and only seniors next year are Marshall and Sasa. I won't speculate on who else could be a t risk, but I'm guessing Chambers will make room....
awful news. Mauti and then Timmy. rough week.
This is going to be like a couple of those early DeChellis seasons. Just damn near unwatchable as we will be down 25 points much too quickly.
Exactly ... you are going to have to push someone out the door. This isn't football where its inevitable that someone would leave. Making room for hoops is harder - much harder.
Just so we keep things straight.
Redshirts and medical hardship waivers (sometimes referred to as medical redshirts) are two different animals.
The fact that Frazier hasn't used a redshirt year is irrelevant. Once he stepped on the court this season, his ability to redshirt was gone. However, his injury does fit the criteria for a medical hardship waiver. If he applies for one, he will get one.

It's 30% not 10%.
Sasa is 23 years old and will be 24 next summer. He has been here 4 years and accomplished very little on the court. PSU does not have to feel bad about telling him it is time to use his degree and find a job.
Yea he might have to go. Chambers will find room for Tim, next year could be the breakthrough year and really get the program moving in the right direction.
