Note: completely unintentional but I just discovered that I am very excited for 2014!!! If we develop a QB this year then watch out!!!!
I'm very excited to see Wartman this year
I will also need him to switch to the #11 to stake away the current stench of Fortt, and get the jersey back on the right track.
What is wrong with you people?
Jesse James. Kid was just starting to get it late in the year. He is a freak of nature and has unlimited potential.
“We’re doing things we couldn’t imagine,” says safety Stephen Obeng-Agyapong. “But we’re doing them together.”
I'll narrow it to guys that we haven't seen yet. I'll go with my two favorites from the 2012 class. Lynch and Lewis.
I'll go with a player that has yet to see the field and say Eugene Lewis.
IMO, he has the best opportunity of any "new " player to make an impact this season. Would love to see him in the slot working against safeties/linebackers.
F the NCAA
F the BOT
But more than the players, I am looking forward to seeing what the coaching staff can do in their second year.
* 2nd year of a Fitz program
* Butler as DC
* Coach O'B and Fisher's impact on all the QBs
* McW development of that OL
fun season coming up!
We all know how it works with Larry Johnson.....this is his year
The combination of Lynch and ZZ in the backfield really intrigues me. It could be our version of thunder and lightening. Belton could be our Hail, a little unpredictable, but certainly able to strike without warning, and cause some serious damage.

Great answer. Read an article that said he is unstoppable in 7 on 7 drills this winter and that Bench looks great throwing the ball. If Lewis is as advertised, who is covering these guys? Robinson, Lewis, BMF, James, Carter. That is not to mention the next rotation of TE's (Wilkerson has impressed) and a very good stable of backs. Media is already promoting the "PSU will suffer, sanctions kick in this year". I know I am a PSU homer, but I do not see it. The defense is younger but loaded with talent. I think Butler is going to do very good as DC. This offense will terrorize opposing defenses this year. Suffer my ass. This team is good, deep at the skilled positions, and has a full year of the Fitz and learning the system. I for one cannot wait for this year. My bold prediction for 2013 - Steven Bench (or TF) finishes the season as the leading passer in Big 10 and we win 10 games. Simply too many weapons against average competition. Also, Mac's rotations at OL last year is going to pay big dividends this year.
Billy Belton - a mentally healthy belton
had to edit my answer to stick with the question. The player? meaning singular. I'm just so stoked for this season but I gotta be patient. So much talent on a team. And for them not to have all the BS on their mind that they went into last preseason with, it's on.

I am most interested in seeing who emerges as the starting QB.
"I like your head, it's a good look." - James Franklin, to a bald reporter asking a question.
I'm interested in seeing Smith on the OL. He has the potential for greatness, and is the most important cog in next year's offense IMO.
On defense, I am excited to see Davis and how much he has improved at DB. A shut down cover corner is a great luxury to have, and IMO Davis has the potential to be that guy- in college at least.
Why should we have to go to class if we came here to play FOOTBALL, we ain't come to play SCHOOL, classes are POINTLESS
Austin Johnson on D, Eugene Lewis on O
It will also help for him to spend an offseason focusing on carrying the ball more, rather than being a fullback. Hopefully it will help fix his fumbling issues
Jesse James - first team all big ten TE
Same two picks for me!!!
Was going to say Lynch but everyone seems to be choosing him... so I'll go with Zettel
"Joe Paterno's the greatest college football coach ever" -Urban Meyer cleveland.com/osu/index.ssf/2012/01/urban_meyer_calls_joe_paterno.html
I sai a healthy bill belton earlier, I want to add Derek Dowrey for the defensive side. I think him a year adjusted combined with his relentless motor could surprise some people. I'm hoping he can.
Davis defined raw talent last year. If he learns the position, and how to tackle, he could be very good.
I'd like to see him work with Coach Vandy on tackling technique.
No doubt in my mind that we have the best Tight Ends in the country, bar none....
87 Kyle Carter TE SO/FR 6-3/247
83 Brent Wilkerson TE FR/FR 6-3/239
89 Garry Gilliam TE SR/JR 6-6/262
84 Matt Lehman TE SR/JR 6-6/258
18 Jesse James TE FR/FR 6-7/264
....and a very happy QB, whomever it ends up being !
It has to begin and end at the QB spot. If one of these guys (Bench, Ferguson or even Hack) steps up and produces anywhere near the way McGloin did last year, this offense will be the best since 94.
On defense, it is the player who ends up next to DaQuan Jones. Will it be Baublitz, Johnson, Dowery or a combination? If one of these guys steps up, the front seven could be very good again next year.
Defense: Nyeem Wartman
Offense: Eugene Lewis
"DOMINATE the state" - James Franklin 1/11/14
I agree with the QB thoughts, but don't count out the latest commit - Jack Seymour.... kid seems to have some really good tools. I really like that we have gone from one QB to 5 or 6. The competition should bring out the best in all of them. For sure, Bench has a big advantage, and is likely the favorite to win the job. Word is he looks very good on the 7 on 7 drills. If Bench plays at 80% of the effectiveness of McGloin, at least early in the season - I think we should be more than fine. But QB's often go as the Offensive Line goes, and here I am very optimistic. If our OL gels, coupled with our RB's, TE's and WR's - jeeez, we have the potential to be scary on offense. I agree with a few posts in this thread that says we will rely a bit more early in the season on the run game, but ZZ/AL/BB are nice options to go to. And if this offense clicks like we all think it can/will, it opens up the door for even better recruiting. Guys - we are on a ROLL here in this program.
Lewis. with Robinson on on side him on the other, decent running game, and tightend options out the wazoo this is going to be a good offense if one of the quarterbacks delivers...
