Considering what Penn State has to deal with in terms of sanctions and limited scholarship numbers, this class is No. 16 right now in the 247Sports team rankings with four, four-star commitments.

OB DOIN WORK
PENN STATE FOREVER
That's just how the coaches roll.
I wrote a post not too long after the sanctions were handed down talking about how the 2014 class would be the hardest of the sanctions. That may still end up being true and frankly, I hope it is. However, the point of that post was how potentially disastrous the 2014 class could be as the first for the 65 limit in addition to these kids still having 2 years of a post season ban. I assumed, and still do, that it will get easier as we progress through and eventually past the sanctions.
Shortly after PSU's 2nd loss last season I thought we'd be lucky to win 4 or 5 games, the 2013 class would fall apart, and 2014 would be full of kids without other major offers. I really thought it might have been the beginning of the end. In fact, I still think we were much closer to that scenario than most appreciate. What OB and the senior class did in 2012 literally saved PSU football. The fact that we are now putting together a class as good as this one considering everything that has happened, is nothing short of amazing, it really is.
I'm continuously amazed at how well this staff recruits, especially considering the sanctions.
I know in recruiting if your in 2nd place, you lose as far as a prospect goes when committing but the fact that we were even in it with arguably the top prospect in the country given everything going on right now speaks volumes about this staff and what they are capable of doing. They bust their tales out there on the trail, building relationships and making their voices be heard about what PSU STILL has to offer prospects.

Just keep winning. Recruiting only gets easier from here on out.
“We’re doing things we couldn’t imagine,” says safety Stephen Obeng-Agyapong. “But we’re doing them together.”
Love this class. I still think its blasphemy how low Troy Reeder is rated! But from here on out, with the exception of TVjr, its going to be real interesting to see who fills out the remaining spots.
I'm absolutely not a Star guy or a rankings guy, but for the sake of the program, I'm delighted to see us ranked like this because, it's just so much positive media coverage, and it allows so much complimentary coverage of Coach OB.

Just an outstanding job by OB and his staff. I think only time will tell which year will be the hardest to recruit- the prevailing wisdom seems to be this class- but in year 2 of 6, I am just not sure.
No matter what it ends up being, the staff has done a fine job of getting good solid kids to look past all the BS and just focus on a great education and good football.
I agree to a point, however, BOB was able to show that he was able to recruit pretty much from day one. Would PSU have gotten some of the recruits they got? Maybe not, but I still they would be out recruiting a lot of programs. Look at Pitt, no sanctions and we are blowing them outta the water in recruiting.
Dominate The State
no doubt. However, I believe that beyond the wins/losses or pure recruiting ability, the excitement and more importantly, the momentum of the excitement was really key for PSU getting through the first year of such serious sanctions. Sanctions that I believe were carefully and intentionally designed to kill the program for at least 4 years. They wanted there to be football in Happy Valley, but not good football.
OB showed he was a great recruiter and put together a staff of great recruiters before the sanctions hit for sure. However, I think he really benefitted from winning 8 games when everyone outside of state college thought winning 6 would take a miracle. On top of the wins you have the success of the system and specifically Matt McGloin. Basically, if PSU did struggle in 2012 and there wasn't the buzz around the man that would eventually be COY we saw, I'm not sure we'd be seeing these results, despite his mad skills. ;)
To put this into perspective, this morning we are 17 while Tennessee is 3. Tennessee has one 5 star that we do not and three more 3 stars. Thats it. If you are using rankings as a barometer, it really shows how well our staff is recruiting when doing so under these circumstances.
