I was not at the game, but I know many claimed the 28k figure was not accurate. Gotta love PITT jamming 3642 into the game. Must have been a nightmare getting out of the parking lot.
I would have put the number around 40k or 45k. I have a very hard time believing there were only 28k at that game. I'm not sure how they estimate it though, especially with people coming and leaving the whole time.
Based on watching it, I would say that when the game started, 28K might be accurate. By the 2nd quarter, though, there were significantly more people there.
I took this pic shortly after halftime. There's probably 28k in just this shot haha.
I believe Onward State estimated it at 28k... But my dad said the people on tv estimated 55k... That is probably more accurate.
Was way more than 28k by the time attendance peaked. That number is incredibly low.
“We’re doing things we couldn’t imagine,” says safety Stephen Obeng-Agyapong. “But we’re doing them together.”
Great job by Pitt to sneak ahead of Temple! I was there and I estimated it at 40,000 and thought that was conservative. That 28,000 number is a joke. Who came up with that and why is it the estimate that keeps getting reported?
I think it was the number Jeff gave and it got picked up....again no way it was 28K
The stadium was a tad less than half full so I would say 40K - 45K
This is what I thought as well.
What's the most we've ever pulled in for a BW game?
I think it was like 65-70k a few years ago.
Another PSU site wrote that there was 50-60 which seemed about right. I was one of many scrambling to get in from the highway by game time and I got there before 10:30. There were tons of cars behind me yet. Not opening parking across from the hospital was not a good idea. Jammed up a lot of traffic.
Pitt's most used sales pitch to recruits - Your friends and family are gauaranteed good seats for each and every home game.
28,000 is not even remotely accurate. At its highest point I'd say mid to upper 40's easy.
28,000 is a farce. I was at the game. just some more media propaganda or ignorance. hard to tell these day.

The number came from Penn State, guys. They weren't exactly shouting it from the rooftops but it certainly wasn't propaganda.

I also think what bills said earlier in the thread is probably a good point: There were a lot more people there by the second quarter than there were at the start of the game.
I don't know how they calculate attendance at spring games, but it's quite possible the figure was based on how many people went into the game before it started.
