Will we get a commit (or commits) after the upcoming junior day? Any thoughts? I will guess at least one within a week afterwards.
“We need to keep this (expletive) together,” Mauti and Zordich to Hill
I think it might be awhile before we get another commit for 2014.
Probably. Junior Day is what sold it for most of our early commits last year, and I have a feeling this will be the same way. Won't be as many offers out this year, though.
Last year, iirc, Issah, Williams, and others all picked up offers at junior day. I'll definitely be watching for Zaire Franklin (assuming he comes), Omar Truitt (assuming he comes too), Michael Grimm, and Robert Martin (assuming he comes) are the unoffered guys to watch. Them, along with Reeder and Thompkins are the ones I think could pop for PSU at a junior day. As we saw last year though, Sickels, Douglas, Webb, etc. basically instantly fell in love with PSU and committed shortly after 1 visit. Pretty easy to envision it happening again with certain prospects.
Unfortunately I have a feeling Truitt may not get an offer for a while, especially since there hasn't been constant contact. Also I believe Thompkins said instead of coming up on Jr, Day, he would like to come up for a weekend with his father.
I agree though, I think Jr. Day will spark interest in some guys for us. I really hope 2-3 guys can really develop a bond and a love for Happy Valley kind of how Mahon, Sickels, Hack and those guys did. If that happens, I think the sky is the limit for the class.
I'm also curious if Mark Allen will make it up. I'd assume so since he's already committed, he can try to get in the ear of some of those guys.
I'll go out on a limb here... Clayton Thorson. QB's tend to pop early, and he's already been to a game (Wisconsin). If he makes it up for the junior day, which I believe he is planning to do, then I like our chances. Would be a major coup, as well.

I was gonna say, I think it will be more interesting to see which of the guys are allowed to verbal early. Limited ships and O"Brien talking about the morphed draft system he brought from New England(cant wait to be far enough away from these early days away from NE to where its ancient history, but that is another topic altogether ha.
The fact that PSU still has shown to have a ton to offer and we can still be players in this recruiting game, we will have options(I believe this to be fact), so who is allowed should be fun to see.

I have always been of the opinion that BOB would take a QB this year. However, I am not sure it will happen with the limited ships.
With the limited number of scholarships available, I would think this 14' class could fill up quickly. I would suspect they would keep some openings for later in the year if some of their top targets if they are not ready to commit early. I also wonder if they would go over the 65 limit for projected roster in 2014 on the assumption that they will probably lose a player or two after the 13' season that they are not anticipating leaving.
It will probably be just the opposite. They can't throw out nearly as many offers to begin with.
