Great showing of PSU fans at the UVA game with lots of energy. When UVA played zombie nation the PSU crowd drowned out the UVA fans with We Are.. Penn State, pretty cool.
The PSU section were a white out, all 3 of them.
And a special note that the UVA fans that were near me were all class.
Agreed with everything. No one said anything to me about standing 3/4 or so of the game, fans of both teams were actually engaging in the game where I sat and the PSU fans around me cheered and knew the backups names. I was impressed on all accounts.
The PSU fan turnout and support at the game was great. Very loud the whole game. The team had to feel the PSU fan support.
I didn't sit in the PSU section but in the heart of UVA seats around the 40 yard line. Most the fans were polite with only a few that seemed truly friendly. Surprised me - thought they would be a warmer, more welcoming crowd. Unfortunately had a somewhat drunk fan sitting right behind me who made several comments. More then once made JS comments and other sexual child abuse comments - yet claimed he was a high school football ref. - I hope not. Also had one UVA student respond to a PSU "We are" chant with "child molestors". I let him know what I thought of his comment. But those were only negative comments - from one drunk and one foolish student. All others were at least polite or very friendly. Will be interesting to see how this compares to our fellow B10 away game fans.
Overall had a great time at the UVA game - except for the final score.

Yeah it seems no matter what stadium you go to theres always a couple of knuckle heads, including ours. I thought the fans were polite and cordial. I had several UVA fans tell me that they did not agree with what the NZAA did to out team. But overall had a great time with great friends and family. The team played hard and we saw a lot of improvement this week.
Lets just keep supporting these kids, they will figure it out.
Yeah I watched the game from the student section on the hill. I only had two people say something rude to me one on the way to my seats, a pathetically drunk middle aged man, called me a child molester while his wife and kids where shaking there head at him. The other was in the student section, who as the game went on got less drunk and actually apologized for his actions at the start of the game. Definitely got hit with a few (full) water bottles when the student section started throwing them in the air after they took the lead. Overall I thought the fanbase was extremely respectful, I know from experience that fans wearing the 'enemies' colors in the PSU student section get treated much worse than I did in Scott Stadium.

Had 2 instances about JS. One young male student had remark about JS on the back of his shirt, UVA female student apologized and said thats not the way they felt. Also 3 or 4 guys shouting Sandusky at them, whether in bars or tailgating most people were great.
I was there for my bachelor party. Was truly impressed with the turn out from psu fans. I was asking around about how the cavaliers got the nickname wahoos. No one could tell me. UVA fans were more cordial than I expected.
virginia fans were great and i sat in the thick of their alumni section.. a few bad seeds, but excellent fanbase considering the circumstances.. i experienced worse as an opposing fan at a ravens preseason game this season.
i learned a wahoo is a "fish that is extremely hard to catch, gives up a good fight", supposedly they're tropical but can be caught off the shores of VA

On a whole I was very impressed with the UVA fanbase as well. It didn't hurt that their attractive female fans seemed to almost all wear a uniform of sundresses and cowboy boots. I was a fan. In all seriousness I only heard a few comments that weren't supportive (heard some Ray Finkel catcalls from a bar balcony...not all that out of line considering the circumstances) and most of the fans we were spending time with knew how lucky they were to get out with a W. The game experience felt almost like a home game considering we were sitting in the heart of the PSU section. I was surprised how much standing we did but I liked it.
All in all a great weekend. If you ever get a chance, try to hit up some wineries and breweries around C'Ville. I really like Stinson Winery and Starr Hill Brewery. The guys at Starr Hill said they are soon expanding up to PA/NJ so hopefully we can start buying it locally.
I was told it was something about an indian tribe!!!??? But im sure some PSU fans dont know what a nittany lion is either.
Legend has it that Washington and Lee baseball fans dubbed the Virginia players "Wahoos" during the fiercely contested rivalry that existed between the two in-state schools in the 1890's. No doubt this was a reference to the carp of the same name found in the waters of Virginia which is capable of retaining a prodigious amount of liquid to increase its size and fend off enemies. By 1940 "Wahoos" was in general use around the grounds (campus).
I too asked one of the senior fans at the UVA game and was told a very similar story. Was told that the W&L team and UVA had a fierce rivalry and that when UVA did well they would cheer wahoo. So the W&L team started calling them the Wahoos. Somehow it stuck. So whatever, at least the two accounts agree it started with the W&L rivalry.
Yep ... a fish that can consume 10 times it weight in liquids.
By the way ... UVA has it's own Sandusky like issue. UVA Lacrosse Player who killed his UVA Lacrosse girlfriend. Parents suing UVA claiming coaches and atheletic department knew of his violence and behavioral issues and did nothing.
PSU crowd was impressive!

BINGO!!! Winner!!! A Wahoo is a Barracuda type fish, but that really has nothing to do with the name. lol. I had a pleasant time with all PSU fans in my area, one UVA fan in my section yelled somthing rude about JS and we shut his ass up. Other than that everyone was good.
No UVA fans should have said anything. UVA has their own skeletons to deal with.
Having said that, UVA was with UNC and PSU as my final 3 when making a decision. Ultimately came down to the fact UVA had no money to give me.
UVA was a great road trip despite the loss. Fans were a class act and I hope that UVA gets onto our schedule more often.
Next year we play again atleast, we have UCLA, Auburn, and Stanford upcoming for major non conf games in the future. Would love to play PSU some more though, it seems natural for some reason.
All 3 very very good schools, love Cville and Chapel Hill is a beautiful campus. I hope to get up to PSU next year for the game if money works out, would love to check it out.
Also half the people in my section in Scott Stadium are drunk rednecks that yell and curse at the team even if we are winning 50 0. Ive been dealing with them going on 4 years now, I was suprised more wasnt said during the game by any of them.

Well worth the trip even if the football team is Penn State in name alone. I am sure we will be a shell of our former selves but will play hard.
