explaining how much football means to him.... I really hope someone gives him a shot. The kid is absolutely incredible. A true leader - but we all knew that already!
Mauti has sent a handwritten note to all 32 of the league's GMs about how much football means to him.
I saw this the other day, and we were actually talking about this in our Redskins Draft thread. I(of course)advocated the Skins taking Mauti with a later round pick.
I think he may need a year to be ready and contribute in the NFL, but I do believe he can be very successful if he gets with the right team who doesn't rush him.
"A bowl game ain't nothing but a vacation." - Gerald Hodges
I would love him and hodges on the Skins. Yes, I'm wishing for a NL reunion for my hometown team.
This will sound like a Steeler homer but I think he be a great fit the team. A lot of draft buzz is if Te'O is there the Steelers take him. I think if they somehow get Mauti late 4th maybe 5th it be a great steal. Could even move Timmons to OLB when harrison is gone. It would actually leave Mauti a year to get ready.
@meyer 4 prez I'm glad Bill K and Alex G keeps it real with us, instead of getting our hopes up.
Timmons isn't a 34 OLB. If they want a replacement for Harrison, its Woirlds or they take one at 17 IMO. Timmons sticks on the inside as our leader there. Then they draft a bigger DE/OLB tweener. Timmons just doesn't fit that mold and is a Pro Bowl type ILB. But I think Mauti would be an outstanding pick for us to pair with Timmons. Foote is about done and you need to start grooming someone. Sean Spence is too small and is a solid reserve guy, but not a starter guy that can thump in the middle (undersized). I actually think we could take a couple backers in this draft- especially if Foote isn't brought back. Mauti I would do backflips for.
WE ARE! And we will always be...
Buffalo sure needs a linebacker or 10.
I'm with ya on the backflip. I only said Timmons because I thought he played OLB at FSU. Some mock drafts have dion jordan(oregon DE/OLB) I like that if he falls that far his body size is a solid one for the need of DE and OLB. I think spence, hood are not starters and woirlds looks good at times. I do believe mauti be a great steeler backer. I even like lattimore as a late pick for people
Timmons did. But OLB's in a 43 scheme often move inside in a 34- hence Bowman, Larry Foote, Potsie, etc. Timmons is just another example. The prototype OLB is a 34 played rush DE in college and has good lateral movement. Much more involved taking on blocks and running the edge- Ware, Woodley, Harrison, etc. I think if Mingo or Jarvis Jones somehow falls a little bit, we may move up- we all know the steelers will move to get who they want. Harrison is on his last leg... May be his last year, or they may try to trade or cut him this season... Will be interesting to see what ways we go this offseason. BIG offseason for our team. Draft and free agency- who we let go/cut and what value picks we try to get in FA (we both know we never drop top dollar in FA, but we may try to get some solid pieces). Count me in on the Mauti pick (he also played outside in a 43 remember?) for an ILB to pair with Timmons. We could have a good pair of ILBs in our 34 like San Fran. If Mauti somehow falls to RD 4, Im shouting to get to the podium. Maybe even RD 3.

What a great young man. He is going to be a steal especially if he goes in the 4th or 5th. Mauit should have been this year's LOTT IMPACT TROPHY winner.
If the chargers took troutman in 5th, knowing full well heed miss the full year to recover and not be ready till 2013..., sure seems a team would take mauti, even if knowing hed miss the whole season.
Not really hurtin at LB on the 49ers...but I would certainly take Mike
At last check he seemed to be hearing he dropped from earlier rounds to the late (not surprising of course) but still looking to be on draft boards rather than Free Agency his assets outside of pure skill should really help make that 'being drafted' dream so many of the kids have happen.

My guess is high pick on day 3. After teams have a chance to think / regroup, if he's still there, people will look to grab someone who can be a serious impact player that needs a year or 2 to get up to full speed. Lots of that happens at the top of Rd 4.
That said.... 49ers fan as well. LB stacked, but you can't pass on a player like Mauti on day 3.
I don't think Mike is going to miss anytime. But I agree with you thoughts on teams looking beyond his injury history.
Mauti would be to Von Miller as Bowman is to Willis.
“We need to keep this (expletive) together,” Mauti and Zordich to Hill
Mauti has STEELER written all over him.
As a Broncos fan, I'd be all in favor of this!

Damn straight. I'd take Hodges too. We need a PSU player out here! After the Ravens debacle I wouldn't mind seeing some young hungry DBs on the roster though...
cannot believe people are writing off Spence, he is essentially the same weight as Farrior just a tad shorter. just wait, he is as much a "football players" as Mauti is and was a big time leader at Miami. sadly because of where he went to school and his hair people think he is a hack thug.
Saints fired Spags to get Mauti. Going to a 3-4 now and will draft the hometown hero from across the lake....3rd or 4th round.
