No, it's fine. There has long been a mentality in Texas and the south in general that the NE couldn't produce football talent. It is why we only won one NC in Paterno's 5 undefeated seasons... and why Nixon declared Texas national champs even before we played our bowl game back in the day. While it is not at the level of the south, there are a ton of blue chip kids when you look specifically at PSU's normal recruiting grounds. I know it may seem that we are being harsh on you, but that's not what the intention is. Like it or not, you definitely have the southern mentality ingrained in you when it comes to NE football and we are just trying to show you the facts.

There's a big difference in having a legend like Joe in charge and just doing nothing while giving his very competent staff pretty much complete control of the program, than having a coach like Blake come in and torpedo the program. I'd rather have a guy like Joe at the helm doing nothing than a guy like Blake come in and screw up everything he tries to do. He was awful, and not deserving of a CFB HC job, at any division or any level.
I think we have potential, and there is an argument to be made for us being closer to the top of the list (look at the past few pages of people yelling at me ). I don't think so though. I don't think our location helps us out too much, even though we are close to a lot of states without a dominant program, and we win those states by default because we're the only power in their area.
Florida is a great job, actually. Phenomenal recruiting grounds, good looking girls, great weather, and the SEC brand. We all saw what happens when they get a competent HC in there, with Urban first and now Willy.
Why should we have to go to class if we came here to play FOOTBALL, we ain't come to play SCHOOL, classes are POINTLESS
I definitely wouldn't mind us getting into Texas a bit though .
Well, we are on our way back IMO.
Even with sanctions, this program is far healthier than it has been since the 90s IMO. Things are looking on the up and up.
I do my best to keep myself from being too much of a homer though, just to stay on the safe side.
Ok this is my last post on the topic:
Very competent staff!?!!?! We had two very competent position coaches (you know who they were/are), and a competent DC.
That was the end of the competence on that staff.
The biggest thing holding back Penn State (as a HC destination) is that we as a school and an alumnus DEMAND that our players graduate at least at the same rate as the overall student population. So, if you, as a HC, want to keep the fans/alums happy -- you have to BOTH win, AND graduate your players. Obviously that's not impossible, but it adds another layer of difficulty that some coaches might not find appealing.
Anyway, good discussion. I'll probably keep reading, but getting too tired to keep posting. Plus, I already have my eye on happy hour. :-)

Frankly, unless we have a coach with strong ties in the area, it probably would be a waste of time. Too many hands in the cookie jar right now.
You'd be right. Maybe once Mack gets fired we can hire him as a recruiting coordinator?
It's tough to pull kids from the South anywhere north. Much more difficult than pulling a Yankee south.
I'd rather us focus on trying to monopolize the NE again rather than get the scraps leftover from TX and FL.
Plus, less competition for my Sooners to have to deal with. Those damn Cajuns have given them enough problems recently, and with the aggies deciding they'll start living up to their potential things don't seem to be getting any easier in the foreseeable future. It'd be a great time to win a mNC, that's for sure.

Disagree. We may not be top 5, but we are certainly top 10.
He ain't heavy - He's my brother!
Mac is too old for this now. What I meant was that we need a young guy who can get out name out there and take "lumps" for a could of years until we have a footing in the area. Right now, it's just not going to happen.
It was more TIC than anything, but agreed.
Mack is too old for CFB nowadays, he is slipping, and the program has felt the effects of his slipping greatly. Hell, Stoops is one of the best coaches in the biz, and I'd argue there have been signs of him slipping. The game nowadays is so cutthroat, a program can't afford to let anything go, not one single season allowing another potential player in the door.
