I vote Meh. My UM friends loathe this move. I wonder how many of us would have moved this deal forward if we were in the B1G power network?
Yay for MD. Meh on Rutgers. I would rather the Big Ten really go after the ACC and get VaTech.
I'm with this, I like the addition of MD, but Rutgers really does nothing.
I'll go with ugh. Neither of these schools are remotely interesting in terms of football, and Rutgers has an overall deplorable athletic department. But my real problem with it is that it is purely a money grab. The hypocrisy is amazing. We are given draconian punishments for our culture, one which ironically was the model culture according to Mark Emmert's predecessor. If anything defines the cockeyed culture of today's collegiate athletics, it's this move.
"A lion does not concern himself with the opinions of the sheep"- Glenn Carson
I'd rather be out of the Big Ten.
But if we're going to stay...then yeah on both teams so we have some other eastern friends on board.
I don't really care or have feelings about Maryland. They are blah and don't really bring anything to the conference. And for Rutgers, I just flat out hate them and their fans. Bunch of assholes who think they own northeast recruiting and constantly believe they are better than us. I can't wait to beat the shit out of them on a constant basis
Maryland is meh because I don't care about non-revenue sports except wrestling and WVB, and we're going to shellack them in both for the foreseeable future. Rutgers? Yay in an odd sort of way. We get to bitchslap them every year, and don't have to hear their sh!t? Fine by me.
Yay on both counts. Most of my friends from high school went to one of these two schools (or Bergen Community). Now I can get them into college football!

I withhold final judgement until I see how the TV markets work out, but as far as quality goes, this dilutes the brand.
F the NCAA
F the BOT
I second that. Rutgers makes me scratch my head. I think we have more alumni in NYC anyways so I think the B1G already penetrated that market. I would've liked us to go south a bit more. Who knows maybe they'll add two more with Georgia Tech, Miami, or VaTech.
Yay= MD, Meh= RU... I just hope they can really bring the NY TVs... Because that remains to be seen. If not, it's a waste.
WE ARE! And we will always be...
If you grew up in North Jersey, you have a friend who went to Bergen!
Meh on both
Yay! on both. I'm tired of being the geographic outlier.
Maryland Yay!! I love DC and will be visiting again the first away game at Maryland. Also, Maryland is a team I remember Penn State playing while I was growing up.
Rutgers meh. I would have preferred Cuse.
yeh, great move
hard one is the next one, how big and who?
Maryland= YAY! - It might not be a great football addition, but I think its a perfect fit in every other way. At the end of the day I would rather the Big Ten be known as the best academics and research conference in div 1 football.
Rutgers= Total facepalm. Purely a money move. I don't hear that much about rutgers as an academic or research school. If they were why does penn state get new jersey kids in the droves? Can they even get the Big Ten the New York market? It was my understanding that big ten network was a given in most tv packages only in the state were a team is.
I'll go Yay on both. It will be nice to have potential 2 road games to go to that won't require a flight! The pagentry and tradition of major college footbal has been gone for a long time, sad to say but unfortunately true. Don't sweat what you can't control.
We'll still have 3 QUALITY BIG games every yr (NEB, OSU, W). Does it really matter if we beat up on ILL/NW or RU/MD.
You guys will love this once we start playing them. These are the teams we care about, even of we look down on them. Playing them will just feel different than playing Minnesota or Illinois.
“We’re doing things we couldn’t imagine,” says safety Stephen Obeng-Agyapong. “But we’re doing them together.”
Rutgers is a fantastic university.
U r joking, right? Rutgers is meh in all dimensions, including academics.
You are completely and utterly incorrect. Rutgers is a very strong university.
Terrible move IMO. A bad reputation in terms of football just got worse, by adding two perrenial cupcakes. Rutgers pretty bad in most sports, and MD isnt what it used to be in BB. TV markets whatever, I understand, but bad moves all around. If it was VAtech and someone else, I would have respected it, but just two real cupcakes.
meh to both, less for maryland but double meh to rutgers
I'd say ehhhh, yay. Better for us than the rest of the B1G just because of geographics.
I agree with this completely.
