Yep. The place I stay definitely charges less for the less attractive games.
The Governor should sue PSU for decreasing PSU revenue. :)
So we don't need wins to be bowl eligible, but we need increased revenue from TV & travel dollars to support the State College economy. PSU already gets enough bad publicity, so why "duck" a 4-8 team that the returning guys would love to get another shot at beating?
This isn't passing even the most basic common sense test. Hopefully this stays a "rumor".
some have said it was Virginia who backed out....who knows what is true.
Just as a reminder...we did have a +4 turnover margin against Virginia and still lost by 1. I don't believe a win would be nearly as guaranteed as people think it would be.
If they're just postponing the Virginia game to another year, that makes sense and it's fine by me. I'd rather have a guaranteed win than risk it.
I sincerely hope this isn't true.

A bonus of having Rhode Island on the calendar is that you will probably be able to find plenty of $10-$15 tickets out there. Might be able to take a family of 4 to the game with parking pass for $40-$50 dollars. Lots of families at this one!
This is what I'm thinking. Potential first game for my daughter!
The offense was still figuring itself out and Ficken missed 4 FG's. I would be shocked if we lost to them at home barring another exodus of players before the next season.
“We need to keep this (expletive) together,” Mauti and Zordich to Hill
Was thinking the same thing.
I'm a URI student and this is flat out embarrassing. They were 0-11 last year finishing the season with a 39-0 loss to Richmond, a 41-10 loss to Towson, and a 55-6 loss to Maine to close the season.
We should tell UVA there is a $60 million exit fee to cancel this game...
This move is simple and smart....move a game that could be a toss up non conference game to after the sanctions and replace it with a guaranteed win. We need wins throughout the sanctions, period. If we have to take the cowardly way out of some series to get them during sanctions, so be it. Lets remember that Alabama did the same thing to our series with them not long ago.
Also, for those that remember, Laschout said this was coming months ago.

This is a horrendous move and I hope that this is being initiated by UVA and not PSU. If PSU wants this it is an absolute embarassment and slap in the face to all PSU fans.
I would much rather see us lose to a quality team than beat up on a bunch of cupcakes the next three years and I am sure all the players feel the same way.
And to the people talking about taking your family to the game because the tickets are cheaper... here's a tip. Except for games like Ohio State you can buy tickets outside the stadium for every game for around $15 - $20 a piece.
Pretty sure this is PSU's doing. Easy wins during the sanctions is most likely the thinking behind this.
So now Ficken is guaranteed to make every field goal, right? And there's no transition period for our offense with a new center, new QB, and losing our second best OT with only a turnstile to replace him?
Whether you want to think so or not, our team lost quite a bit with the seniors. There will be yet another adjustment period for this team. What if we're -4 in turnovers against UVA? You never know how these games are going to go, who might be injured by that point, etc. This is not a cakewalk. Get the win and the experience against URI, worry about UVA another year.
I think i would rather lose to UVA than beat RI. Does putting up 40+ points against RI really do anything for you guys?
Like someone else said, it might be a good game to bring my 6 year old daughter to her first game...

This is PSU's move.
And give me a break. If you could change this year - do you want 10-2 with wins over crappy teams or 8-4?
I honestly don't think people understand the situation we are in here.
Also, by all accounts this is a move by OB.

I have a feeling we will see the Y-Te on the line a lot more this season to help our RT block.
I have to agree focusing on getting the win/experience:
In three years, they won't be talking about who OB beat (unless its an upset like OSU)...they (the national media) will be talking about his record during the sanctions.
That said, I hate the fact that it has to be Rhode Island and not a better lower level school. I wouldn't mind seeing GA Southern, Richmond, Old Dominion or one of the Dakota schools.
I get that but schedule a little harder guaranteed win......maybe a team like Buffalo (who is bad) but 0-11 Rhode Island. Probably be about 75-0
I've learned in the past week to believe every rumor on here...
Over the next couple of years, PSU will need every win they can get. Don't blame the staff and admin. for trying to make PSU look as good as possible over the next couple of years. Blame the NCAA for these bullshit sanctions that caused them to schedule crappy teams.

Dominate The State
Also - and this is just speculation - but I would be willing to be we'll see "tougher" teams rolling on the schedule for post sanctions seasons. I would be willing to be we see the 'Bama, Texas types when we can compete with them.
no doubt about it
Rhode Island players are tweeting excitement about playing at the Beav this year. Just saying ...
Yeah I'll bet it's all done except a final signature.
It will be interesting to see if we downgrade any other OCC games as well.
