Time to hire our new DB coach?
“We’re doing things we couldn’t imagine,” says safety Stephen Obeng-Agyapong. “But we’re doing them together.”
WE ARE! And we will always be...
Joe Judge or Brian Flores?
I was sort of hoping for Chris Hewitt from Baltimore though.
I was just about to post this, then I saw your post. Not sure how he is as a coach but if it is somebody from the Pats, I could see it being Judge. He is from PA, and played in the secondary. Flores, would be another interesting option.
And spent time with Saban... Saban is off the Bellicheck tree and any relationship with those two defensive minds has to be a plus... Maybe he could make some impact in the south for us as well?
He (Judge) was a player/grad assistant for Sylvester Croom and Croom (IIRC) is very well respected by southern, at worst, I assume he could reach out to him to help him make in roads.
Would be awesome. I vote for Judge. Would be a quality hire with the right connections, young... And with the BB relationship, would be naturally good I would assume. The coaching profession is all about fitting in and being comfortable with who you've worked before. With all the other coaches gone already, it could be an ideal fit.
Where did this rumor come from?
TOS said that the coach has not been named yet because he was a coach o a team currently in he playoffs. According to TOS Penn State has already found their guy and it will be announced when his team exits the playoffs. Most speculate it'll be someone connected to the Patriots. After lookin over all the coaches left in the playoffs Judge makes a lot of sense.
RMJ was posting some interesting guys from the NFL and I looked at the Pats and Judge seemed like an interesting hire after some online research (great pedigree - Saban, the hoodie and Croom, reminds me a lot of butler, young, NFL connections, special teams prowess, ability to recruit the south and connection to OB).
Its not really a rumor, just fun speculation. If its right, it would be just be an educated guess on what OB might look for.
Got it thanks.
We all know how accurate the TOS boards are... Sigh.

By "TOS", you mean the funny hair guy ?
I saw what he wrote, things are kinda sketchy...........Not convinced he's right. He MAY be, just doesn't sound right.
What did he write? He's always wrong. So hopefully he didn't mention Judge.
Andy Reid has retained Emmitt Thomas as DB coach off of the KC Chiefs staff... So unless Chip Kelly retains Zordich on his staff he could be fair game. He is still under contract with the Eagles, but if Chip wants his own guy he could be unemployed... And a good solution to our current coaching vacancy...
I've been a member on scout and rivals for nearly ten years. I'm well aware of the history of information over on BWI. I take everything I hear as rumor until reported otherwise. On TOS it was reported a few days ago that PSU had found their guy but was waiting to announce the coach because he was a member of a staff that was still playing. No names were mentioned and the staff member was only told in was one of two coaches. I found the information to be fairly credible because another poster with very good info said he had heard PSU had their guy and posted that a day earlier.
The Joe Judge speculation comes from random Internet posters going through the NFL coaching staffs of the four remaining teams and seeing who would make sense. The first team that comes to mind is obviously be Patriots. Judge coming from Lansdale Catholic and having worked exclusively at the college level and played as Mississippi State made him stick out. His background is as a safety and a special teams coach which seems exactly what the role of the next coach will be. Judge would seem like a solid hire. He would come with two national championship rings and experience coaching with the best coaches at both the NFL and college level. Not a terrible résumé for a DB coach at PSU.
There is a guy named Chris Hewitt on the Ravens staff that coached DBs at Rutgers and is now an assistant special teams coach. He's a North Jersey guy so he'd be a good piece for recruiting purposes. He landed a few good recruits at Rutgers.
It would be hard for me to believe any current NFL DB coaches make a lateral move to PSU. The Patriots currently have a cornerbacks cosch and a safeties coach but unless their jobs are less than secure I doubt they'd make the move.
Right now Judge comes up just because he seems to make the most sense. To me that would be a real nice hire. Young guy that's had a chance to learn from possibly the top two football coaches in the world. Maybe he's learned something.
Penn State: Don't be surprised if Boston College defensive line coach Jeff Commisiong emerges as a candidate for the safeties job at Penn State
Les Bowen, who covers the Eagles for the Daily News, said Zordich is at the Senior Bowl looking for a job.
I'd be surprised because Commissiong has never coached DBs and is a DL coach. I think he's a terrific DL coach though. Would be an odd move.
Yeah Im looking for a bio online... No dice... Most coaches have coached most positions on their side of the ball though... Are you sure he's never coached DBs?
Edit: Nevermind... He really has been solely a DL coach (coached the RBs too briefly). But no real DB experience.. Very curious

Psh. BOB lets get it. There are a few good DB coaches out there. Will be interested to see who we go after.
Commish name has some truth to it.
Interesting comment. Wonder what the plan on defense may be. Commissiong seems like a really good coach and I like how his defensive lines have been really strong versus the run. Mum just not sure what this means for the Defensive Backfield. Does LJ Sr take DE and Commissiong take DTs? Butler and GA take secondary? Just not sure. It would seem very odd to hire Commissiong as a DB coach.
Very odd to say the least. Look at his resume.... All DL. From GA onward. Never even coached LBs... Just saying its strange...
I don't think it is all that strange. It isn't that unusual for coaches to coach a variety of positions. That said, LJ Sr is in his 60s and if you have the ability to hire a top shelf DL coach and have him coach DBs for a season or two before taking over then you have to think about it.
Also, Butler mentioned that he may still coach corners or safeties. If this guy is smart and a good teacher then he should handle being able to coach safeties. Coaching a position isn't rocket science, it is about motivating players, being able to teach and effort.
