My brother-in-law who lives in Atlanta said that they were saying on Atlanta Sports Radio this morning that PSU and GT are in talks about a home and home series.
That wouldn't be a bad one, IMO.
This would be a great move by PSU. Gets them into the state of GA against a good opponent but not nearly as tough as playing against Georgia. Ted Roof has alot of connections in GA and this would only help in recruiting.
Dominate The State
Would love that, I live in Atlanta.
Article in AJC about it.
When Georgia Tech athletic director Dan Radakovich contracted with BYU for a four-game series (later shortened to two), his intent was to provide season-ticket
"Penn State has taken a lot of punches in the last six months and it's time to punch back" - BOB
Please let that happen, would love to see a game in my backyard.
I love the idea. I hope it happens.
"DOMINATE the state" - James Franklin 1/11/14
My idea of an OOC schedule would include
Rotating SEC opponent
Rotating Big 12/Pac 12 opponent
Or rotate home and homes with Md, WVU, Rutgers in place of Big 12/Pac 12.
One can wish....
"Leadership is to be both a speaker of words and a doer of deeds"
WE ARE and ALWAYS will be...... RIP JVP
Living in the Atlanta area, would love to see this or another opponent closer.Hope they make this happen really soon.
In the comments section of this one, folks assuming PSU will be part of ACC soon. Um, ok?
Not surprising considering that BOB, Roof, and McWhorter were all on staff there within the past decade. I wouldn't be surprised if we were talking to Duke too...for a lot of reasons.
Unless you live by Atlanta this is not exciting...
Great market exposure.
Nice brand of football.
You couldn't be more wrong.
Ok when I think of programs that would be cool or fun to play out of conference Georgia Tech would be about 60th on the list. Yeah getting exposure is GA is nice but when GT comes up here I'm not getting super excited for the Awesome GT/PSU matchup. When it comes to out of conference scheduling either go big or go regional. If you can't land FSU, Georgia, Florida, LSU, USCe or another high caliber program play somebody people care about regionally.
And playing a second rate ACC school as one of the "big" out of conference games just isn't exciting.
So either Temple or Bama.
MTayl your right, GT is just freaking awesome... Put them with some mac teams and Temple. Awesome. As a fan I want to see teams like WVU, ND, PITT, Maryland, Rutgers regionally. And I want a big time game out of conference. Nobody is going to get excited playing GT.
And I would like to have Southern exposure in there. And what better way than playing in and against the team from the Jewel of the South?
We won't be throwing up big time schools while we work through these sanctions. A B1G schedule will be hard enough.
What the fans want is nice, but doesn't really matter as long as you'll still buy season tickets.
GT is an afterthought down here. From a distance perspective, you wouldn't see me complaining though.
And I wouldn't argue that, especially over UGA. The key is finding a manageable schedule with a regionally diverse flavor over the next 2-5 years until we start to build back up from within.
Then I would agree 100% with blackshoes.
Follow up to the thought of an ACC matchup. How about Clemson. They are a team that stays in that 20-12 range usually. Good name. Good coverage. That'd be a much better big game over the sanction years and keep up some viewership down that way.
Just a thought. Idk if they even have open slots.
I agree with the points you made after you initial post, but I think you were a little too positive on the first post. Sure, the game is in Atlanta, but I don't think too many people around there would care. And GT plays on some crappy TV channels down here a lot of time, but against PSU that most likely wouldn't be the case. I'd also say they're an okay program. About on par with UVA. I think by the time we'd play them, they might be looking for a new coach.
I think its one thing if its "a" matchup, and another if its "the" matchup. I can see both ways, and its where we had initially differed I believe.
They're full until 2017 for any quality matchups, but that's a program that I think PSU would be much better off playing. Much better option from a publicity standpoint and SC is a rising state in recruiting. A lot of real big time names the past few years..Lattimore, Clowney, AJ Green....
And I would agree on clemson
