in Big Ten football writer's preseason poll. Ahead of only Indiana....WOW!
Hopefully our team will rally around an us against the world mentality. I personally am more optimistic about the season than this.
Not all that surprised. We have a new offense no one has seen yet, an overhaul of the offensive line, and McGloin as the starting QB. Defensively, we lost an All-BIG DT, and the majority of our secondary. I wouldn't expect much more. Now, I do believe we will be much better than our pre-season ratings project(if we can stay healthy).
As an aside - Just a guess on my part, but had P.J. been named starter, I bet we would have move up two spots!
"A bowl game ain't nothing but a vacation." - Gerald Hodges
Could happen. We are talent-poor at several critical positions, unproven or thin at others.
If our D is up to par and we limit Mr. McGloin's involvement in the offense, we can win some games.
Wisconsin is on paper the class of the Leaders Division. Purdue is a trendy pick for surprise team. But OSU and Illinois also have new coaches and new offenses, and are coming off disappointing 7 loss seasons. PSU should be higher than fifth.
With all the crap and distractions swirling around right now, I think it is going to take its toll on this team, either directly or indirectly. I am not going to be surprised if PSU is in line for a subpar season now.
It will show the true mentality and backbone of this team. Either they will let it negatively effect them or they will unite and rally behind all the negative press and use it as motivation. I know it is a lot to expect, but I think it will be their motivation and they will do much better then these estimates.
Obviously though, a lot depends on the sanctions to be announced on Monday.
