Please give your prediction on the final score and a quick 'game story' synopsis
I say Penn State 27 Ohio 13
On offense, Offensive Line plays solid, Bill Belton rushes for two TD's in his first start as a RB, Alex Kenney with a TD grab and McGloin looks good, but not great.
On defense, the front 7 put a lot of pressure on the opposing QB - I see 4 sacks and 1 pick - by Amos. And, as predicted, many more blitzes than we are used to - and the D Backs playing up closer to the LOS.

I think the impact that Bill Obrien is going to have on this teams offensive play calling and gameplan has been greatly underestimated. Throughout the weeks I have seen people predicting points in the low 20's and high teens. With the old staff I would agree, not with this staff. This team is going to score points.

I agree... And I think O'Brien will do a really good job in crafting a gameplan that McGloin (or Jones) can run. Not try to fit the player into the system, but the other way around. And - to me - that means you will see the TE's play a BIG part of the offense - like 20-25%.
I don't think this game is close for long. I don't necessarily think PSU is that much better than Ohio, but it's starting to sound like people are trying to build this up as the "upset" of the week. I think the defense is tough and one of the TDs for Ohio comes against the second string in the 4th quarter. I think we see some good/some bad on offense. i think there will be one big play and some points off of turnovers.
This will be a close game. Ohio is better than many are giving them credit for. While PSU SHOULD be better offensively, the entire scheme is still new and will not be a "well oiled" machine yet. The atmosphere will definitely play to PSU's advantage.
I think the first half is going to be extremely tight and we all will be on the edge of our seats. I'm expecting PSU to pull away some in the 2nd half but Ohio keeps it interesting with their stellar spread offense attack.

October 12, 2013. PSU 43 - UM 40 (4 OT). Unfortunately this fan wasn't around long enough to see it!

On Offense, Belton has a huge day and Lynch gets a few runs and shows flashes of greatness to come. Belton runs for 125+ but only one TD off a long run. Zwinak gets a few carries in the red zone and puts one in for a TD. McGloin shows improvement, but still misses a few open receivers and forces a few throws resulting in 1 pick on the day. He does match his pick total with 1 passing TD to Jessie James. Gilliam leads the team in receptions, but Kenney has the most yards as he breaks a few tackles and gets a lot of YAC. Wide receivers as a group have an average day with some drops in big situations. The line is the key in the game as they dominate in the run game. However, a few failed communications result in 3 sacks of McGloin on the day. Ficken hits on two field goals from 30+, but misses one from 42 yards out. In the turnover battle, we have McGloin with 1 int and we also lose a fumble.
On Defense, the front seven shut down the Ohio running game and, due to a lack of experience at receiver, their passing game is not at effective as some have predicted (Six sacks on the day). However, Ohio stays in the game due to a 60+ yard pass play for a touchdown when Roof is caught blitzing and the senior quarterback makes a great play. After an interception, Ohio gets a field goal when Penn State shuts them down on three straight plays inside the red zone. Ohio gets their other touchdown when Penn State shanks a punt from the end zone and Ohio gets the ball on the 12 yard line.
Ohio ends up with 3 turnovers on the day as Hodges forces a fumble, Amos picks one off, and Ohio fumbles on a punt return.
I don't see anyone putting down Ohio.
Penn State is better than you are giving them credit for.
awesome post! I love it!

It's never been tougher to predict. The offense could be much improved, or fall on its face. The d could be stifling, or be on the field way too much. We could easily lose by 7 or win by 30.
31-21 good guys, with a much better offensive performance.
Play of the Game: Belton busts open a 75 yard TD run.
We manhandle them on defense.
- Belton 130 APY, 2 TDs
- 6 catches by TEs.
Play of the game scoop & score by Hodges on 1 of 2 fumbles by Ohio U QB.
The emotional determination of the Penn State team will be a key factor. These players have faced adversity after adversity for the last 9 or 10 months with very little they could do in response. Now they have something they can do to release those feelings of hopelessness and frustration. I expect a memorable performance. Don't take this as any dsrespect to a fine team from Ohio, but some very determined Nittany Lions--boosted by 100,000 roaring fans--will win big. Penn State 45, Ohio U 13.
I think with all the emotion and a new offensive scheme PSU jumps out to a 10-14 point lead but that Ohio battles back in the second half to make it a good game. I'm still really concerned about the new aggressive defensive scheme with the depleted secondary. I'm gonna go PSU 27 Ohio 20 but I honestly wouldn't be shocked to see Ohio pull out the win as much as I hate to say that.

I'm a believer in what the team is saying about their improvements in practice. I just think Coach O'Brien is a special coach, so I see this offense making big strides. As we all know, that has been holding the team back for years.

Oh yeah! Love the optimism! I agree with the TE's.... they will be play a big role....
I actually think that PSU will come out too amped up and fall behind early. I think we'll struggle a bit for the first half, then BOB settles the troops in the locker room and PSU recovers for the 23-17 win. We'll have a bunch of fans ready to jump off the closest bridge not realizing it will be a good win over a very solid team, possibly top 25 team.
We need to remember that by BOB's own admission, this is going to be a scaled down offense. Expecting a high powered showing this early isn't realistic IMO. Their best practice performances seemed to come when a number of D starters where being rested. Also, guys may have looked good in practice but a game is very different. How will the WR's react? Will MM be too pumped and force a couple dumb ones early? If our blitz get's stood up, will Ohio's spread pick us apart? Too many ifs for me to think we have a break-out performance.
Penn State 38, Ohio 14
We open up a can on both sides of the ball. Lots of big hits by the home team and a very loud crowd.
is it going to be like this?
