You may be right. Maybe it was more top 10... BUT, with no sanctions, I dont think there's a limit to what the staff could do with the roll we were on, and with no limitations. Here is the ESPN rankings pre-sanctions (but during negative Freeh/Emmert buzz- although the Freeh report wasn't done yet, still a very dark cloud). I still think with no sanctions we finish top 5, maybe top 10. Sorry again for highjacking. Final post on the subject.

WE ARE! And we will always be...
Very true, but if we have a better season (almost undefeated) with the players we had, and go to an elite bowl... With he and BOBs relationship, a lot easier to stay.... But he may have left no matter what. You may be right. I just think a lot of things are diff w no sanctions. That was my main point.
Roof almost certainly would have still left.
Boyd, we probably would have gotten. Foster, no. He didn't even have us in his top 12 (can't remember if that was before or after sanctions). We were never in it for Foster. Trey Johnson, no. Dorian Johnson, probably. That's two 5*. Vanderdoes was never coming to PSU, even without sanctions. Webb wanted to play with his buddy, Drennon, who never got an offer from Penn State, even before sanctions.
We probably would have added one 5* (Dorian Johnson), and several 4*. That's still nowhere close to what Ole Miss is doing.
Like I said, strongly disagree.
PA LB Chris Britton committed to UConn.
I just think that with a better record (maybe undefeated)... Probably OSU's record.... Whats stopping us from having OSU's class? They are arguably top 5... And they had the benefit of us being down. I think we get Johnson with no sanctions (all of our players) and an elite bowl (we beat OU, UVA, and Neb easy- maybe OSU at home). A 1 loss team has a diff class than a 4 loss team... I just think with the momentum we had, nothing was stopping us. But its fine. I keep getting sucked back in to comment. Im seriously done this time lol
Edit: Sorry Bills, take your thread back please.
We could've definitely pushed for a top 5 class if not for sanctions; but not necessarily because of the prospects rmj mentioned.
Without sanctions, we get Nadir Barnwell (who I think is a bit overrated but still..) Tyler Boyd (yes. He was ours. Period.) Keep two 4 stars in Will Fuller and Ross Douglas, and 90% we get David Williams no matter how frustrating his recruitment was at that point (and if not, who's to say we're not a player for that 4 star RB who was committed to Pitt at one point, etc.)
We may not have ever led for him or anything, but definitely we would have been a player for Trey Johnson.
Also, who knows what other 4 star types would've come on the radar after we have recruiting momentum and a good season on top of everything else the coaches have done.
Foster wasn't coming here. Vanderdoes wasn't coming here and Trey Johnson was improbable, but we had tons of other things going for us that made us a serious player for a top 5 class.

OSU has 8 high 4 star recruits in state committed. PA has 12 4 star+ guys total, and we only had even a shot with 6 of them. They also have 4 star guys from NJ, Texas (2), Mississippi, NC, Florida, Missouri, Georgia, SC and Indiana. Simply put, our staff didn't have enough targets that high to finish with the class OSU did. Their lowest ranked recruit (aside from the punter) is an 89, higher than 6 of our commits pre-sanctions.
We were never going to have the success OSU did this year unless we hit on guys like Foster, AA, Webb, McGlinchey, Kugler, etc. We were never landing those guys, so it was a moot point.
Glad he didn't end up at Pitt.
For those who care...article from the Tennessee site regarding Boyd's visit. I have a gut feeling he's not going Pitt and is looking for a way out. Therefore, I think he ends up at Tenn.
Top247 wide receiver Tyler Boyd of Clairton, Pa., whos currently committed to Pittsburgh, says he has a final decision to make following his official visit to Tennessee.
Agree. I may have been wrong about some things... but yeah, we had the momentum and the staff to pull it off.
Jonathan Walton commits to USCe.
Three-star LB Jonathan Walton has apparently went public with his commitment to South Carolina via Twitter.

My apologies to Cbrenn. This board format doesn't seem to work well when you click one thing, then cancel and click another. Didn't mean to edit his post.
However, I do think we can keep this non-VIP as long as we're talking about non-VIP information. For those who didn't see, Rod Crayton committed to USM and Chasz Wright committed to UConn.
UConn is definitely putting together a good class with very solid upside.
sorry about that I didnt know if you guys wanted to keep it VIP or what but uconn I think is getting some steals in PA with joseph, lemelle and britton.
