Redd is critical for not only the success of this year's team, but for giving us a chance to attract top talent in the years ahead.
If he leaves, it will make it very easy for future recruits to pass us over because we weren't even good enough for one of our own.
Lastly, and this has been stated numerous times elsewhere, Redd was SUPPOSED to be a leader on this team. Despite what PRF believes, Redd was scheduled to be at Media Days and was replaced by Mauti. I am disappointed that one of our "leaders" is looking to hang with the cool kids.
F the NCAA
F the BOT
At this point in time people need to see the writing on the wall. People may not want to see it happen, but it appears he is gone IMO. The kids that wanted to stay didn't want to look around for the most part. I'm with you, he was a leader on this team and was very critical to PSU this year. It will sting for sure, but those that will stay will always be remembered by the Penn State faithful. #Belton and #Those that stick by PSU.

"One man didn't build this program and one man sure as hell cannot tear it down."
I agree with you LJL. You have 99% of the starters returning, except for 1. Most feel/think he's gone after the year as is. He's on pace to graduate in the spring, or shortly after.
He knows the team, the playbook, the staff, and the environment. He gets to play in 12 games, and will be the feature back in a pro offense, with pro coaches, and pro schemes.
The flirting with USC makes little sense. He doesn't know the players. He doesn't know the playbook, won't be able to graduate in the spring, doesn't know the coaches or the schemes and probably won't be the featured back.
The only reason is A) the weather and B) the fact he'll get to play in a bowl game. And if that's what it boils down to...then I have some major questions about him. I will wish him well, but fully admit that it makes little to no sense to leave when you're leaving after the season anyhows.
Frankly, we'll be deeper if Redd leaves. Both Dukes and Zwinak would likely stay. Dukes has 2 yrs of eligibility and Zwinak has 3. Thinking longer term than 1 yr, it may not be such a bad thing if Redd leaves.
I think you're looking at it in a bit of a "fan" vacuum. The reasons you list out simply don't present a viable case for somebody like Silas to leave so there are probably some personal or emotional struggles rooted in who knows what, that add to his mix of reasons for leaving. I also remember Silas stating a long time ago that he was a huge fan of Reggie Bush, like Reggie was his number one favorite player. I think this one all boils down to Silas's heart, which we all know is hurting right now from the fallout of the scandal. At the end of the day, he could get to USC and while impressive, he could realize that he just isn't going to feel the comfort of home if he goes there. And I think those emotions that he feels while there will tell all, and not any kind of business case that we can all write down on paper.
Nothing good comes of your best offensive player leaving in a very important year for PSU. While it would suck to lose some depth at RB, this team was depending on Redd quite a bit this year. Redd was Captain PSU before he ever even committed to PSU. There is a reason why this will sting and long term PSU is in trouble at RB. Lynch has been ultra quiet. Dukes has been quiet. The only one RB I'm aware of that has committed back to PSU is Belton. I think others are waiting to see what Redd does which is fine, but PSU is in a big hole at RB beyond next year IMO.
I'm kinda shocked that people don't understand why Redd would be interested in USC. I mean they're the preseason number 1 team in the country, they have the pieces to make a run at the MNC, beautiful weather, women, great school, Hollywood, and a tradition of great RBs. USC is one of the few places that I wouldn't blame a kid for leaving PSU for. It sucks b/c he was supposed to be a leader but don't act like it's shocking.

Dominate The State
Diddy - any thoughts on Lynch, i actually want him to stay more than Redd
Lynch is staying - his twitter thread has been active, and while somewhat cryptic, it's clear that he's sticking.
wow, awesome news if true.....we just need 1 of Zwinak and Dukes to stay to be our big back
Lynch has been messing with people on twitter... I think he stays, but he has kept it quiet.
His twitter comments actually make him sound like a really sharp kid. I kind of enjoy the game he's playing. I think he said something like...
"In order to lead the orchestra, a man must turn his back on the crowd."
Awesome stuff, IMHO, no matter what he does.
No one fails to understand why USC is attractive. That isn't the problem.
The problem is that this is a time to rally, not explore other options...if you are presumed to be one of the LEADERS of the team.
I don't have a problem with an underclassman looking around because they aren't a LEADER.
It's not shocking. It's terribly disappointing.

Lions247: Bill O'Brien said that its his impression that NCAA sanctions could be reduced down the line with compliance.
if he had a beach trip planned, probably can't cancel it....really hope we still get him.
@Lions247: Bill O'Brien said that the whole team, minus 2 or 3 players have recommitted to the program.
I don't recall the NCAA ever reducing anything.
Yah but our situation is unprecedented.
Interesting. It's logical, but when has the NCAA ever done what's logical?
Last I knew, we were complying pretty well before the sanctions hit too. That didn't seem to make any difference.
I'll believe that when I see it. Which is to say, I don't believe it one bit. Wishful thinking.
