Personally I am a fan of Klinsmann, and we got a good win last night. The only problem is that he doesn't seem to bring up any young guys. I have been impressed by Mix and Luis Gil has impressed me. Both players bring creativity which is what the US lacks. Donovan and Dempsey both bring creativity as well but are aging. Also I didn't get to watch the game as I was out, but from what I hear Altidore had a nice game up front.
I have one upvote left, and I am not afraid to use it!!!
Back 4 was very good.
Mix and Gil will prob be called up next camp. One of them at least. Klinsmann has mentioned Gil specifically in interviews. He will def factor in if we make the WC. I was VERY impressed w Gomez on the wing last night. Two way player and was very active.
WE ARE! And we will always be...
I don't expect to see Gil until the end of this year at the earliest. Keep in mind he's playing in the U-20 World Cup this summer. They won't just rush him along if he can't provide a huge upgrade. There's quite a few guys on the U-20 team who will contribute, but personally I wouldn't expect them until next cycle.
Really? I think he could get a call up next year... We'll see I guess. Maybe Shea shows a lot and they dont have a need for him. In other news, for those who watch international clubs... Whats going on with Stu Holden? Is he back yet, or still hurt?
Wasn't impressed by Cameron, he looked nervous every time he touched the ball. Other three were impressive, Beasley looked good.
Glad Beasley made me eat crow. Still the least physical player Ive ever seen, but still quick as ever.
I was as surprised as you he still had the pace. Granted it was in the snow, big test is Tuesday.
As a central midfielder, there really isn't any room for him on the field. I can't see him getting his first few caps right before brazil, it wouldn't be worth throwing him out there for the heck of it. Was he even called in to the January camp with the other MLS-ers and B guys? Holden is back, but coming along slowly. He hasn't played a full match yet, which isn't surprising since he essentially missed 2 seasons. Internationally, if he's fit they may try to bring him in to the Gold Cup so JK can get a look at him.
Move Shea to the back 4...
I think from here on out, I'll consider Cameron not throwing up on himself a success.
Maybe the other three could carry him to competence?
Why should we have to go to class if we came here to play FOOTBALL, we ain't come to play SCHOOL, classes are POINTLESS
We need his creativity up front. Plus, has he ever played defense before? For Dallas I'm pretty sure he went back and forth from striker, winger and mid.
Just to break away from US soccer for a moment, I'd like to I've a few thoughts on some of my favorite players from the Serie A.. If you don't mind.
Since his move back to the homeland, Mario Balotelli has looked rejuvenated. He's interested, working hard, and making runs he never would at Man city. He's obviously much more comfortable back at home. He has 7 goals in 6 games and also scored a cracker against Brazil this past week. Balo is starting to look like the player we all thought he could be.
Our residen Roma fan, Texas lion, will enjoy this next one. Francesco Totti, who was showing signs of wearing down last year, but has come roaring back this year. He's playin people into dangerous positions, being creative, and attacking very well right now. If they had a comeback player of the year award, totti would win it for the Serie A. The game he played this past week Was fantastic. Helped set up the first goal then was unlucky not to get a hatrick. He still got one. So far this year he has 11 goals and 10 assists in 25-26 games. he's been a joy to watch.
Totti has been fantastic this season. He still looks worn every once in a while if he plays a couple games a week without a break for the Coppa and such, but he's definitely the key to Roma's offense.
What's scary is the difference for Roma when he's not on the pitch. Guys like Lamela and Pjanic don't run nearly as effectively, and nobody has anywhere close to the vision that Totti has. He's very fun to watch.
He struggled defensively for Dallas. As you say, he needs to be played on the wing
He did attempt to play defense at some point. I don't know how it went exactly as I don't watch MLS, but we need something.
I'll throw in a few thoughts as well...
1. The Pharaoh is a stone cold stud in the making. I'm high on Milan's future core as a whole.
2. Chiellini is pound for pound the best defender in the world.
3. Stevan Jovetic is going to be a top 3 commodity in all of Europe this summer. Powerhouse.
4. Vidal, Marchisio, and Pirlo are the best central MF group in Europe. It might not be close either.
5. I'm a little worried about Cavani...hot start but really struggling since the turn of the year.
6. Handanovic has perhaps been the best keeper in Europe this season.
7. Totti is an ever developing revelation.
8. I'm very high on the Sampdoria duo of Pedro Obiang and Mauro Icardi. I think both have immense futures ahead of them.
Also forgot to mention how much I believe in the hype of Paul Pogba.
Agreed on basically all of them.
1. The young core is great. Selling off all the expensive pieces this past year has really been a blessing in disguise for them.
2. Chiellini is a beast. He, along with Barzagli and Bonnuci, have put Italy and Juve in a good spot defensively for the next few years.
3. Jovetic is fun to watch. Idk about top 3, but there's gonna be a lot of interest.
4. They're the biggest reason I've believed in Juve for the CL this year. Impressive that Pogba is still getting chances with that depth. In fact I saw that he may start against Bayern.
6. Handanovic is fantastic. A big reason why Udinese went from 3rd last year to mid table this year.
8. I havent seen them play. I'll have to get on that.
Roma was seriously considering making a move for Icardi when Zeman was still the manager. I'd assume they're still interested, but obviously it wasn't enough to garner an offer during the window.
They may have missed the best chance at buying him cheap though, because the more he plays the more expensive he'll get. Between Pjanic, Lamela, and Destro, there are enough projects on the attack for Roma IMO, but he's the kind of talent a team seriously considers if a club is willing to give him up.
Icardi had a nice brace when Sampdoria visited Juve. I've tried to keep up with him since. Very good prospect...only 20 like Obiang.
NO. Just no... Edu, maybe... Not Shea.
I gave up on the USMNT awhile back. This whole conversation is depressing. Beasley vs Shea vs Edu for the LB position? Oh lord. Cameron as a mainstay in the back? Oy vey. Will we ever get an impact striker? My money's on Jozy btw, don't give up on the kid. And if that wasn't enough, we also generate the worst soccer announcers ever (Twellman and Lalas)!!
I do love to see Americans do well overseas though.
Well to be fair, Fabian Johnson is a fine LB, he's just injured for this cycle of qualifiers so I'm not sure why Shea is even being discussed.
This. The only discussion was in reference in the crunch we are in at this moment... But going forward, Johnson and Chandler are our backs... Q is who will pair with Gonzalez... Goodson was solid last game. But who knows over the next year who that will be...
