Yeah, Cameron is the weak link... Gonzalez supposedly showed well though. Great sign going forward... Still cant believe we are going to lose to Honduras... Long way to go for this team.
WE ARE! And we will always be...
This team is excellent at pissing me off.
From the WSJ real time blog...
For the record, it was young Omar Gonzalez who was with Cameron when neither played that through-ball. It's probably more Cameron's responsibility, and Cobi Jones wonders whether Cameron might have thought Howard called him off. But regardless, there's plenty of blame to go around for that ugly, costly goal. Unless the Yanks can find a late equalizer, of course.
The U.S. can't even get possession at the moment. Not the late rush one might have hoped for, at least thus far.
There will be three minutes of stoppage time. Will the U.S. make them count?
We just cant seem to score goals... It doesnt matter what we do, we dont have guys that can score consistently on the international level... Yet.
Zero points... we lose... Going to be a long road to try to get to the WC... Sigh.
From the WSJ blog. Good summary...
The good news for the U.S. is that this was only the first of 10 games in this final round of World Cup qualifying. The bad news is that the Yanks will take home zero points from Honduras. The worst news is that Klinsmann's squad didn't really deserve any points.
Bocanegra's benching will raise some eyebrows, since the Cameron-Gonzalez pair at the back was victimized on the deciding goal. More than that, though, the American squad never seemed to find its footing on the thick grass on this rather steamy day. Jetlag likely didn't help, but the European-based stars like Bradley and Dempsey (aside from his one terrific finish) never really imposed their will on the Honduras defense. Honduras controlled possession, generated more scoring chances, finished slightly better (two to one in a game marked by plenty of poor finishing on both sides) and didn't make the killer mistake.
The team did not even give the bein interview babe an interview! Babies the whole lot. Stand up and be accountable!
Meh, it's the 2nd toughest game of the entire hex. A point would've been perfect but this isn't insurmountable. I don't really understand why they squeeze a qualifier into this Feb break anyways. I expected a shoddy performance, and they surpassed my expectations.
It's not the loss, it is what I watched. Just didn't like it at all. I expect more from us in 2013. If this was 1993 I would agree.
I've only seen him three times, and each time was with the USMNT. He was crap the first game, meh the second, and crap the third.
I didn't see him today except for a highlight of Honduras scoring. He's supposedly better when he's at fullback for Stoke, but I haven't seen him there to say. He is pretty miserable as a CB for us though.
I'm not one who's soccer opinion should be taken very seriously though, but IMO Cameron is pretty bad.
Why should we have to go to class if we came here to play FOOTBALL, we ain't come to play SCHOOL, classes are POINTLESS
Our backline must be miserable with communication, which would explain a lot of the breakdowns and why our CBs take turns looking like idiots.
Hopefully we can fix this trainwreck of a defense.
Donovan was gone, as was Boca and Cherundolo.
Howard is getting older, maybe he's not doing as well with a backline that has very little experience playing together?
Howard hasn't had a great year this year for Everton. He has been playing better of late though. The bicycle kick today wasn't his fault at all. The second goal was a shared fault between Howard and the defenders. Howard didn't play bad today, the defense is really bad.
From what I saw of the bicycle kick, it didn't look like any of the defenders move. How do you just watch a guy outside the box and not try to create pressure? Even worse, once he does cross it, how do you not make a move to cut it off or get in front of the guy who is about to get the cross?
That's what I figured about Howard. I didn't know he was having a bad season though, that's too bad. Our fullbacks are decent (Fabian) to good (Chandler), which is what drives me nuts about our miserable defensive breakdowns. WTF is happening? Why no communication?
Short time to play together... They just got together a few days ago. Like diddy said, this is them at their most rusty... But Cameron just didnt look good apparently. Maybe Boca and Gonzalez next game? Gonzalez' upside>>> Cameron right now.
Maybe I'm misremembering, but Cameron played a hell of a game against Mexico. Then again Howard was top class that night.
I'm not too worried about the backline...they'll get it together. This was the first time all four player together. I'm worried about scoring. Not to mention, we need Donovan badly. Not that we can absolutely score with Donovan, but he's still the best USMNT player.
Donovan adds the creative dimension of which we have no alternatives. Eddie Johnson was a desperate attempt to stimulate some danger on the wing, but he's a pacey forward, not a technically gifted winger who will create opportunities for Jozy and Deuce. Deuce plays off a lead and isnt the most creative force himself. Bradley and Jones are a good duo in CM. I'm fine there. They weren't brilliant today, but Ill blame more jet lag + heat + lack of prep rather than lack of talent. They are adequate creators, controlled distributors, and both cover a lot of ground. The wingers are a problem. Our most dynamic combo would be Donovan on the right and Shea on the left. We may never see that. Communication w the CBs is the other big issue. Like I sad last week, US needs a 7/10/11 and a 5 to round out the squad. The lack of both cost them points today.
We need Donvan period
Shea should be in their as mentioned pur midd created nothing
Both Centerbacks played bad but Gonzalez has potential while Cameron is not a CB and Boccenegra should have started
I think we will figure it out but America just needs more young cb and cam really bad
Celtic crowd and team are charged up right now. Juve just needs to hold on for the first 30 min. Good to get a quick one too.
Celtic have been on a test in CL this season, but Juve has been spectacular in Serie A lately.
Should be a great match.
1-0 Juve at half. Celtic really has total control of the game. Juve looks like they're still on the plane. They either didn't think Celtic would be a challenge or relaxed too much after te early goal. If they want to win they need to come out with some better energy in the 2nd half. Celtic just needs to keep doing what they're doing
Juve will do what they do...defend, slow the tempo, and hold the lead. A 1-0 result suits them fine.
