Woah, when did that happen?
This should show people how much I follow FC Dallas.
Why should we have to go to class if we came here to play FOOTBALL, we ain't come to play SCHOOL, classes are POINTLESS
Now that Zeman is gone, Bradley likely won't get much playing time at Roma.
Just read about it.
Hopefully he gets some starts. The US needs him to develop in a hurry.
Damn... We need him to get minutes and keep improving... He's one of our core guys...
WE ARE! And we will always be...
Not all of us are EPL fans, well is you count Celtic. Bundesliga fan here, ABB, any one but Bayern except in the CL, when I support them. Dortmund, Frankfurt, Bremen, Hannover 96 (gotta support the yanks) and Schalke for same reason. In swiss league I watch Basel on occasion, live here, but they suck this year, not middle field support and back four are porous at best.
wouldn't count him out yet, he is a pretty good player who has versatility.
Didn't mean to insinuate that everyone is EPL. I'm equal opportunity, but unfortunately, the network that carried BL has been removed from my cable package. I have access to EPL, LL, SA, and L1.
I just started watching the BL a couple weeks ago. Gol TV was separated from the rest of the sports channels on my TV and fit in between the spanish channels, so I didn't realize I had it. I enjoy watching Bayern the most, but I'm still pretty open watching the league.
Dortmund is probably in the top 3 of most pleasing Euro teams to watch.
Not sure if anyone here other than me cares, but Verizon FiOS is currently in negotiations to carry beIN Sport (for La Liga, Serie A, and others that are no longer carried on ESPN and/or GolTV).
Dortmund is definitely a good team to watch. A lot of real good young talent. I just got BeIN sport a month ago and have definitely been watching it more. Between that and the Pac-12 network, it caused my cable bill to rise which was unfortunate.
So did anyone else see this. I can only imagine...
The radical idea was hatched in October 2011, shortly after FIFA awarded the U.S. broadcast rights to Fox Sports for the 2018 and 2022 World Cups. Fox Sports president Eric Shanks wanted to do something bold with his soccer coverage. Most importantly, he wanted to brand it with something unique to Fox. So he called up broadcaster Gus Johnson, who had joined Fox only five months earlier, and asked him a question: Would you be willing to work for the next six years to become the American voice of soccer?
For those asking about Bradley this page, this excerpt is from a blog I was reading. This is the majority of Roma's complaint with him, that he runs, but he doesn't run effectively.
"This has always been my issue with Michael Bradley. While he runs a lot, and it's nice, he runs with a purpose to the ball, not a purpose to a tactical structure, leaving space which the opposition all too often exploits. The problem is, he does run, and Zeman likes running, and that meant Michael won minutes, but there is a difference between running and running intelligently. Chasing down the defender on the ball is wonderful. Doing so when it's supposed to be Erik Lamela, leaving a clueless Erik to drop back several steps on the wing and the midfield to shift into a two-man sieve? The casual fan will champion it, but that's just really poor football. You need someone who runs, and someone with technical skill, but more importantly, you need people who know what the hell to do with it. Grab all three and you've got Messi."
I love Gus Johnson, this would make the WC even more fun to watch.
Does he know the sport well enough though?
He started calling San Jose Earthquakes games on the radio in 2011, and apparently he's been over to Europe for a few weeks to see a bunch of games. I'm confident he'll be very knowledgable by the time the WC comes around. Fox could have done MUCH worse than appointing Gus.
If anything he'll bring more viewers, not that I think they'll be struggling.
Having Gus Johnson as the voice of the World Cup would force me to watch it on mute. He's a basketball guy to me, his calls in March madness are awesome. I don't really like when he calls football games either. He should just stick to bball.
It came on Comcast in Sep. I have both the English and Spanish versions but neither in HD yet. I've been pleasantly surprised. They've clearly dumped an insane amount of money into the network, but it's a pretty good product.
It's an interesting choice, but I agree that maybe not the best kind of interesting.
Apparently, Gus will get plenty of practice this year. He's set to be Fox's lead voice for Champions League, starting w his debut for the Real/ManU match next week.
Apparently beIN negotiated sweetheart deals with Comcast and DirectTV for very little profit just to get into the US market. Since then, they have apparently been playing hardball with other carriers. I'm anxiously awaiting the day when I don't have to stream these Spanish games anymore like a poor college student. (PSU's bandwidth cap used to kill me back in the day. After being throttled back to 56k multiple times, I used to just go to the HUB or commons to use the uncapped wifi to stream the games while "studying").
This is what I have to do, it sucks. I don't go to the HUB though, I just try and get to the library beforehand.
Streaming is annoying though, to say the least. I have to sweep my laptop before and after, and the majority of the times I can't find an English stream. Lately I've found some HD Russian streams that are awesome, but I don't understand Russian so I just go by what I see.
Hopefully I'll be able to make enough money soon so I won't have to keep doing this.
Good English streams are impossible to consistently find. I don't even bother anymore and go straight for the reliable Spanish streams. Muy bien.
I'm just curious, are people actually surprised about the Gus Johnson news? I don't know why, but I actually kind of figured this when FOX won the World Cup rights.
