Stevie G's goal was sublime. I still don't understand what Reina was thinking. It was an incredible angle, but Aguero was marked, in no man's land, and with his back to goal. Awful mistake.
He big Buckeye fan here just want to introduce myself.started getting into Soccer a lot the last few years. I have 3 lil boys who play club soccer ages 8,10&11. They also play football which my 11 yr old likes more the other 2 perfer soccer .
They play for Canton United SC.Always wanted to try out the tournament in Hersery ,PA. We play in the CASA Leauge which the Puttsburgh Strikers are in as well as the Erie Admirals.
Anyways Beckham won't start he is a mentor type guy with diminished athletic ability. World Cup> Olympics but I still hope USA can win one but I'd rather win a world Cup but we have a lot of work to do to get to that level.
I hope to get to watch more NCAA soccer on BTN but it's not on much. A big Crew fan here I assume u guys prob follow tge Union.
Obviously the MLS is not a top Leauge so I like Man U ( former player Gordon Hill coaches at my sons club) , AC Milan, Barcalona who I like better than Real Madrid ( wish Ronaldo would go back to Man U),Dortmund and FC Bayern are also fun to watch. Also PSG is goingvto be fin to watch now.I like Messi the most but my favorite player is Alex Morgan and my favorite team to watch is USA. Went to the Jamica gm last yr and I hope the Mexico gm is in Columbus!
Welcome! Columbus is a great soccer area so I'm sure that your boys are in good hands. You'll find a good mix of EPL fans here...ManU, CFC, Pool, Arsenal, Spurs, and Everton supporters. No one has claimed City yet. I remember chatting w a guy on Bucknuts who was a huge Newcastle supporter. I forget his handle, but he should be invited. Bayern, Madrid, Juve, and Roma are also well represented.
You won't get many arguments around here concerning Alex Morgan.
I'll tell the other Bucknutters about the soccer thread.
I'm from Columbus but live in a small town thats between Columbus and Canton. Lot of good soccer in Big Ten Country from what I've gathered so far.
"Criminal organizations have infiltrated the highest levels of European and international soccer, threatening the very integrity of the sport, global law enforcement officials said on Monday as they unveiled the results of a 19-month investigation that showed hundreds of people involved in match-fixing."
Interested to see the fallout from this.
A 19-month investigation found that criminal groups had infiltrated European and international soccer with hundreds of people involved in match-fixing, global law enforcement officials said Monday.
USMNT squad named.
GOALKEEPERS (3) : Brad Guzan (Aston Villa - 5/3 SO), Tim Howard (Everton – 22/9 SO), Sean Johnson (Chicago Fire – 0/0)
DEFENDERS (9) : Matt Besler (Sporting Kansas City – 0/0), Carlos Bocanegra (Racing Santander – 31/5), Geoff Cameron (Stoke City – 5/0), Edgar Castillo (Club Tijuana – 0/0), Timmy Chandler (Nuremberg – 0/0), Brad Evans (Seattle Sounders – 0/0), Omar Gonzalez (LA Galaxy – 0/0), Fabian Johnson (Hoffenheim – 3/0), Michael Parkhurst (Augsburg – 3/0)
MIDFIELDERS (8) : Michael Bradley (Roma – 19/5), Brad Davis (Houston Dynamo - 0/0), Maurice Edu (Bursaspor – 9/0), Jermaine Jones (Schalke 04 – 5/0), Sacha Kljestan (Anderlecht – 12/0), Jose Torres (Tigres – 9/0), Danny Williams (Hoffenheim – 4/0), Graham Zusi (Sporting Kansas City – 3/0)
FORWARDS (4 ): Jozy Altidore (AZ Alkmaar – 17/6), Clint Dempsey (Tottenham Hotspur – 26/10), Herculez Gomez (Santos – 6/2), Eddie Johnson (Seattle Sounders – 11/10)
Think we see a lineup of Howard; Chandler, Boca, Camereon, Fabian Johnson; Bradley, Williams, Torres/Zusi?; Dempsesy; Altidore
I'd like to see Torres start over Zusi, but for selfish reasons. I've never seen him play before and Zusi's hair bothers me.
Why should we have to go to class if we came here to play FOOTBALL, we ain't come to play SCHOOL, classes are POINTLESS
Whats the earliest Donovan can rejoin the squad once /if he starts playing again? The rosters submitted is fine and I'm not sure what the rules are on modifications? I know they can add him later for a player removed from injury I think.
Hopefully our u23& u20 teams get better also.
It's weird to not see Cherundolo on the roster. I think we see Edu, Bradley, Jones, Williams in MF.
I don't tend to follow the Sirie A...anyone know how Bradley is doing there?
"One man didn't build this program and one man sure as hell cannot tear it down."
Cherundolo knee inj is only reason he is out.
I think Bradley, edu and jones start but I'm not so sure about Williams.
Well, it depends on who you ask.
Many Roma fans hate him because he hasn't done well in the third quarter of the pitch (passing percentage drops, turns the ball over more, and even I realize when watching the games that he just shouldn't move up so far on the attack), which is where he spends a lot of his time in Zeman's system which equates to "ATTACK, ATTACK, ATTACK."
However, if you look at what he was supposed to be brought in for (a 4th midfielder who would spell De Rossi and split with their young Greek talent who's name I can't spell), he has performed admirably IMO. He has started the majority of games this season, and plays the full 90 minutes. Outside of the third quarter of the pitch he has the highest or second highest passing percentage on the team (somewhere in the low 80s IIRC), and the lowest turnover percentage of any midfielder on the squad. He holds the ball well and is solid as can be in the middle of the pitch, but because Zeman's attack asks for 5-6 players to attack at a time, he gets put in positions that don't play to his strengths.
Also, Romans typically don't like him because he's bald and American. I think he's solid though, and provides a lot for Roma.
EDIT: Now that his manager was canned, who knows what will happen to Bradley's playing time. Zeman was very high on him, evidenced by the PT he got over guys like De Rossi, but the next manager may not be. Hopefully for his sake things work out well with the new guy.

This obviously didn't happen, due to Roma not being able to secure Viviano. Now he gets to sit on the bench and watch the other keeper flop around in front of net. Great.
Also, Zemanlandia II comes to an end. Now Roma gets to hire a lame duck coach for a few months. Woohoo.
This is a big blow to the chances of EL play, which would have been extremely beneficial for the many young prospects that Zeman/Sabattini were/are trying to develop. Guys like Piris, Dodo, Lamela, Destro, and even Pjanic (while Roma could hold onto him) would benefit tremendously from more experience against European teams. Ugh.
Dear lord, I hope this team can hang on during the second leg at San Siro, because that is their ONLY chance at making Europe.
EDIT: Now that I took a deep breath, maybe the next manager brings in a system that fits with the current roster a little better? Totti loved Zemanlandia, but he seemed to be the only one who really excelled.

Be careful what you wish for. Putting a team w spotty depth in the EL hurts more than helps. Ask Newcastle.
I like what the Columbus Crew is doing but I'm not sure about giving up Duka and the rights to Robbie Rogers for Dominic Oduro.
I havent followed soccer long enough to know how well Oduro plays or what the chances are Rogers comes back to MLS. I thought Rogers was a good player was hoping to see him return to the Crew. Obviously he is better off in Europe somewhere.
Right? Cherundolo has been a steady presence... But Im happy to see some new faces like Castillo... Hopefully he keeps improving. Chandler and Johnson (if healthy) are studs though...
WE ARE! And we will always be...
Im hoping for Gonzalez... But youre prob right... Camereon will get the nod.
Love Klinsmann's attitude... "We are going in there for 3 points."
U.S. Men's National Team head coach Jurgen Klinsmann looks ahead to the first game of the final round of World Cup Qualifying, and discusses some of the challenges the team will face going up against Honduras.
Supposedly the ownership group and Zeman wanted to keep a relatively small squad this season so there wouldn't be any issues with playing time for players. You're right though, if they didn't make any additions and this squad had to play that much soccer things would get disastrous.
Thinking about it now, they'd have to sign at least 5 more players of starting quality (for starting money) to get a team that could reasonably compete in both EL and Serie A.
The end of this season will be frustrating though, at least IMO. It seems like the organization is just trying to tread water until the younger corps (Piris, Marquinhos until they can't afford him anymore, Pjanic until they can't afford him anymore, Destro, Romagnoli, Lamela) emerges. However, by that time, significant pieces will be gone or aging (Totti and DDR), and there is still no solution at goalkeeper.
Is the sky always falling in Italian soccer, or is it just me?
Unfortunately I don't follow the MLS that closely.
If I had to pick a team it'd be FC Dallas, but the only reason I'd watch would be to see how Brek Shea develops.
The MLS as a whole seems to be improving though, there are some solid players in the league now and some big names. Hopefully this is a long-term trend.
Is soccer big in the Columbus area? Its huge at the youth level in Texas, especially the area I'm from. However FC Dallas just can't seem to gain a significant following. Market saturation doesn't help, but I was hoping they'd have a little more than they do now.
Isn't Brek Shea over in Europe now?
Yup Stoke bought him. 2.5 million transfer fee.
He's a potter, which is appropriate.
Nice. Hopefully he gets some run. Our guys need PT... Not to just be on a roster.
