From this morning but Didier Drogba joins Sneijder in Galatasory on 1 1/2 year deal.
Meyer4Prez "This is wut happens when ur team site analyst are huge homers glad Bill K+Alex G keep it real instead of getting our hopes up."
That's so sad. Come back to the Bridge Didier!!!!
Just watched the replay of Roma-Bologna. Roma's backup keeper is garbage, absolute trash. Apparently Zeman likes him because he gets the ball out quicker, but he is crap. Supposedly he and Stekelemburg don't get along, so he won't play him often even though he isn't as bad as the backup I saw today.
I'm starting to not like Zeman. Just from a couple games he already seems immature and frustrating. Guy has got to learn to reign it in a little bit. Also, pushing Bradley up on the attack is dumb, and doesn't play to his strengths.
Sorry for rambling. Hopefully the ownership group goes after a quality keeper.
Why should we have to go to class if we came here to play FOOTBALL, we ain't come to play SCHOOL, classes are POINTLESS
I was watching the game on TV. It ended 2-0 after Stuttgart made a disastrous back pass.
I hope you didn't rely on Barca/Osasuna.
Two decent games at 3. Bilbao v. Atletico Madrid in Spain; PSG v. Lille in France. Bilbao has been very disappointing this year, so the French match is probably your best bet. The late Italian match is Inter v. Torino...not a great matchup.
Coppa Italia has been very good this year. It's a shame that the 2nd leg of Roma/Inter isn't for so long. Lazio have the shot to pull a major upset this week and set up a potential Derby Final.
Also, don't forget that the Copa Del Rey semis feature a Superclasico match this week. Wednesday @3pm is the 1st leg in Madrid.
I was looking forward to seeing Roma-Inter 3 times in a week or so, but that would've mean Roma played 9 games in 15 days or something to that extent. That's a heck of a lot of soccer, especially when Zeman kept the roster small because of no EL play. The first two games were a lot of fun though. Hopefully Roma can pick up their form in a month. The second leg in San Siro will be the most important match of the season, bar none IMO.
Thanks for the tip, I'll be streaming the PSG game.
Madrid is without Casillas, Ramos, Pepe, Di Maria, and Coentrao for this match. Ronaldo's been hot and Barca's back 4 have been shaky lately so Madrid should get some good chances, but I don't know if this team will be able to keep Barca from scoring.
Drogba, Sneijder, and rumors of Kolo Toure.
Spurs front the money to have now ex Schalke Lewis Holtby join this window rather than in the summer. Also rumors are heating up of Nicolas Anelka to Juventus.
Edit saw Milan rejected a bid from Napoli for El Shawaary, wonder if they think Cavani is leaving this summer .....

It makes sense. Pharaoh to Napoli pays for Balo to Milan pays for Cavani to City. But Id much rather keep Pharaoh than buy Balo, truth be told.
and Balo is gone to Milan.
Reminder on ESPN2 USMNT vs Canada friendly in Houston about 10 minutes.

#USMNT lineup for #USAvCAN: S. Johnson; Beltran, Gonzalez, Besler, Morrow; Beckerman ©, Zusi, Davis, Evans; Wondolowski, E. Johnson
Spectacular match between Juve and Lazio for those who watched.
I need to find a stream for Juve-Lazio replay, sounds like an exciting match from what I read.
That was simply pitiful to watch. I wish I could somehow add that time back to my life.
It's pathetic. I know it's our B-Team but we couldn't even score one measly goal against a team that loss 8-0 to Honduras recently? C'mon.
Klinns, at best, has done a sub-par job (C- or a D+). He better get his shit together quickly. I know it wasn't going to be a quick fix, but we've just been absolutely mediocre.
We've been mediocre because that is what we are.
We may be, but we have also gotten past group play in 2 of the 3 World Cups, with a trip to the quarterfinals in '02. And the fact is we aren't getting out of the group stage unless play picks up, let alone qualifying.
I understand the US is not a top power, but we've won with less both on the field & on the coaching staff. Our starting 11 is now littered with EPL & Bundesliga players. We have a coach who finished 3rd at a World Cup. I know it's been the norm for the past 20 years that USMNT literally has no expectations, but that has changed.
The bottom line is we shouldn't be having such pathetic performances against CONCACAF teams.
EDIT: @PK5's post above me.
Keep in mind this is from a very young viewpoint of soccer with little experience. You've been warned.
I agree we have underperformed, but JK's style of attack doesn't really mesh with our roster very well. From what I understand, he likes to take it out wide and cross it into the box quite a bit, but who do we have that's a true winger? Donovan isn't really a winger, IMO he's at his best when he's working off of a striker in an attacking position and making runs into the box. Dempsey is closer to it than Donovan is, but at best that's one winger and an unbalanced attack. IMO both players are better when making vertical runs into the box than when going wide and having the ball crossed into them or them doing the crossing.
Also, who's our big striker who will contest CBs for headers? Jozy is inconsistent (understatement), but even when at his best is hardly dominant in the air (very limited sample size, mostly based off of USMNT play I've seen). JK likes Gomez, and that guy just isn't very good.
We have severely overachieved the past few Cups, and it has been because of solid, experienced CBs like Churundolo and Bocanegra, and a stud GK in Howard who played out of his mind in the past few Cups. Donovan tried his best to make up for abysmal offense and officiating, but he couldn't do it all alone (I seem to remember Dempsey playing like crap last WC).
He's now older, our back like is pathetic, and even though Dempsey has started to play with some more consistency in national play we don't have many quality offensive options. Brek Shea has potential, but he's been off and on in his time. Zusi is mediocre, even though JK loves him. Agudelo is very young, as is Gatt and Diskerud. It's not likely Chandler will stick with us if there's any realistic chance of playing time for Germany's team, so I'm not gonna account for him in this rant.
We've got two capable options on the attack, possibly three if Jozy gets it together, and a bunch of guys who either aren't good enough or aren't ready it. I'm not sure if its a transition period or a trend downward, but either way we just aren't very good right now.
We don't give our capable guys any help, and IMO the system doesn't play to whatever strengths our squad has. JK is far and away the best manager we have had or would get if we fired him though, so I for one hope he stays and we somehow develop a youth program.

In other news, Roma's ownership group apparently doesn't support Zeman anymore, so he could be gone after this season. Roma will be looking to find their third manager in as many seasons.
Are there any good managers coming onto the market that would take the Roma job? They are a wealthy club, but historically don't seem to like opening the checkbook for anybody other than Totti or De Rossi.
It depends. Real, Chelsea, Arsenal, City, Milan, and PSG could all be seeking new managers depending on the season's results. Guys like Mancini and Ancelotti may be available for a return to Italy w Roma. Rafa Benitez is another guy who would relish a big stage in a city like Rome. Roma is wealthy but they aren't Juve, the Milans, or even Napoli in terms of money invested in the club. It's a good job, but the Ultras are perhaps the most demanding in Italy...hence the instability and reluctance of some top players to sign there.
4-2-3-1 fits the roster, but nothing fits the MLS slop we threw out last night.
1. Donovan is likely done w the MNT, but he is a winger. He was highly effective as an out and out right winger in WC 2010 and during his spells w Everton. Not sure if he has the pace anymore, but he's the best crosser (perhaps a tie w Brad Davis) in America.
2. If we put our top 11 on the field: Howard, Chandler, ???, ???, F.Johnson, Bradley, J.Jones, Edu, D.Williams, Dempsey, Altidore...we can compete with a lot of countries. The primary issues are that this group of personnel hasn't played together, our central defense is an issue, and our wingers are subpar. It's a mismatched group. The spine is world class in goal and midfield, but mediocre at striker and weak in central defense. In wide areas, the fullbacks are strong but the wingers are average.
3. In its current construction, we don't need a traditional no.10 bc we have such a strong triangle in CM. We desperately need an elite no.4-5 to solidify defense. Thats #1 priority. Next is a terrorizing no.7 to take on fullbacks, create havoc drifting inward, and cross into the box. That is supposed to be Shea, but it hasn't happened yet.
Prevention of goals is the great equalizer in Intl play and we need upgrades in CD to stabilize the squad.
And Everton sure could use him on the right wing for the rest of the campaign with the nagging injury to Mirallas and Coleman hurt at right back.
I think as long as the US goes to Brazil...Donovan will be there. He's obviously an odd cat, and things don't look good at this moment, but I'd honestly be a little surprise if he doesn't return.
Don't know what I saw in Landon then.
If he's done with the MNT, who do we replace him with?
I like Shea because of where he's from, but I've only see him play once.
Maybe Cameron and whoever else we had back there against Russia who also plays for Stoke (forgot his name) could get some chemistry together with the club? That'd be nice.
If you're including Chandler as a full back do you think he stays? That'd be helpful, he's solid and has some potential AFAIK.
