15 game win streak...
3 consecutive shutouts...
1st team to ever go through a calendar month undefeated...
and a great PK at the end of 2nd-start of third...
pretty good numbers
Not only do I not know what's going on, I wouldn't know what to do about it if I did.
Cooke proved why he is valuable to Pittsburgh once again today. People outside Pittsburgh think this guy can't play. They are fools. Vokoun is really really looking good. Since the Montreal game, he has been nails. That 5 on three PK by the Pens was exciting. Hope Sid is fine. Sucks Martin is gone for six weeks.
Third shutout in a row for Pittsburgh - LOL ... what is the world coming to?
And they won today without Crosby and Letang, 2 of their best 3 players.
Dominate The State
He wears a mouth guard but not sure how that helps against a 90 mph slapshot.
"I like your head, it's a good look." - James Franklin, to a bald reporter asking a question.
Pens are serious about keeping to the defensive scheme that is needed to win in the playoffs. That is the difference right now. At one point today, Malkin and Iginla were below the goal line working in the corners in their own zone. Sid always does this, but I think it is really sinking in to the rest of the team.
As long as Sid doesn't have a broken jaw, he should be back soon...maybe with a modified helmet, but back.
Good luck to anyone who has to play against them, offense aside, the team is down right fast and nasty now. People constantly in front, beating teams in the corners, and constant presence of Murray have changed the overall demeanor of this team.
lost a few teeth... nothing serious
PENN STATE FOREVER
Fractures don't always show in the first 48 hours. Especially if there is a lot of edema in the area.
Call me warped, but I sort of thought a loss to the Isles wouldn't be such a bad thing, although it would have ruined Iggy's debut. We need a few to keep everything in perspective. A win by the Isles would have put them in the eighth slot over the Rags. That would have made me somewhat happy. Could it be we see both the Rags and the Flyers miss the play-offs?
This team really bands together when an injury or two to major players happen. This is when they play their best hockey really and are dangerous. They play responsible defense. It's when the whole team is playing together, the bad habits come out.
I will personally drive to NYC and kick the hell out of the Department of Player Safety chief if Kunitz is suspended. That was a brutal call. I could see two minutes for boarding - maybe, but a five and tossed from the game was a joke.
That calendar month thing isn't true. Flyers had a 35 game unbeaten streak from October to January in the 70s.
Your thoughts on the big acquisition by Holmgren - Kent Huskins from Detroit for a 7th.
Judging from his time as a Shark, I believe this is a sign that the Flyers are now entering tank mode and making a run at the top pick.
He worded it incorrectly. First team to win every game in a calendar month (with at least 10 games played in the month).
Well that's different. Undefeated = not defeated = all wins + ties. They didn't have shootouts back in the day, so the Flyers streak had 2 ties in November instead of an opportunity to win a shootout. God I wish they still had ties, shootouts are the worst.
Comparing stats across eras is kind of pointless because of changes like that.
I completely agree on the shootout. HATE IT, but the casual hockey, bandwagon fan loves it and that's the market the NHL is catering to.
I'm proud of myself for not putting the remote through my TV screen the last 2 nights when my team decided to blow leads with 17 and 27 seconds left to go into OT and lose in shootouts to 2 horrible teams. 2 big points left on the table, especially with Kovy out. He can't get back soon enough. Looking forward to some new blood next year, lots of cap space available, elias will be back at about half what he is making now and Clarkson played himself back into reality and another contract at his current rate. Shedding Zubs, and either Zidliscky or Tallinder along with resigning Elias at a lower rate will give them around 20 mil free space, figure in the drop in cap and they still have a fair chunk to spend when most teams are up against it. Need a scoring winger BAD to compliment Kovy.
Someone sounds awfully jealous.
Of shootouts or the streak you have going? Definitely not jealous of anything related to shootouts. Definitely jealous of your streak. The Flyers stink, why the hell wouldn't I be jealous?
But that still doesn't change the meaning of "undefeated."

Pehaps I misspoke...
"Won every game in a calendar month"
Everybody happy now?
OUCH, broken jaw foe Sid, surgery done, out indefinitely. If he's got it wired shut and is on the liquid diet, could be a few weeks. Hope he can bounce back and play with a full cage ASAP.
Early word is 6 weeks minimum..... Sounds like they need to win R1 to get him back..... Though hockey injury time is usually less... who knows.... but they have closed all the bridges & people are lining up demanding returns for their new Pens gear.
Where is this early word coming from? Link?
Indefinitely means no timetable yet. Broken jaws are usually 4-6 weeks for the general person, but not hockey players.
Couple examples of broken jaws, Tochet came back in like a game, Selanne (whose injury was very similar to Sid's) he missed 8 games, Vanek last year missed 9 games.
"Whoever’s trying to kill me isn’t getting the job done. But one day, I’m going to punch that f___r in the face."
Pittsburgh Penguins @penguins
Shero: Nothing was wired, that's good news. It's only been 24 hours. We'll get through this and monitor next few days.
Not wired shut is good, he just needs to keep his strength up during the time he is out.
Bad news is Crosby will prob. lose another Art Ross trophy due to injury, but in the end if he wins the Cup (and the Hart), losing his chiclets and all the pain he is prob. in will be worth it.
Glad to hear his jaw's not wired shut. He may be able to play with a full cage sooner if that's the case.
I personally think the day is coming where full cages are going to be mandatory.
