Pens need help on the blueline.
Anybody that questions Crosby's talent is nuts. He's clearly the best player in the game when healthy and there is no question about it.
Only people calling for a veteran winger that I have heard are the throngs of bandwagon morons who can't grasp that you need some "boring" players who are there to play defense, shut down the other team and not mike the pretty light come on.....and there are A LOT of those people.
When you look at the defense individually, we should have a pretty good one. Letang is one of the best; Martin is alot better; Niskannen is steady; Despres is solid when he plays. Orpik has slowed down though. As a whole, the defense isn't that good. That should be the priority.
People were clammering for Iggy because they don't see Dupuis being a first line player and would rather have him on the third line instead of Kennedy, who hasn't done anything positive this year outside scoring all of his goals versus Philly. What they don't see, the trio of Kunitz, Crosby and Dupuis is the hottest line in hockey. It's ridiculous really. It's all about chemistry and they have it. Dupes is really a third line guy, but he is having alot of success, so why change it?
Iggy would be a nice addition, but he is hardly needed. Beau Bennett has looked pretty good with Malkin and Neal, so ...
Instead of forking over a first round pick in a strong draft and a top D prospect like Pouliott or Maatta for a rental, maybe sending a second to Calgary for Stempniak would be a better option. He, or Glencross, who I don't think gets traded, are better value pickups for Pittsburgh.
yeah, my team could use Iggy far more. They can't score in a women's prison with a fistfull of pardons right now.
Shero was on yesterday saying that iggy was a possible addition. However, their need may be more of a role player in a penalty killing type forward actually. Someone who can kill penalties but add to the 3rd line scoring.
There was no talk of any defensive trade. Not that they aren't looking!
Ray is mysterious when it comes to trade deadline time. He goes away from all the rumors Eklund and crew out there throw out. If those bungholes were true, the Penguins would be the proud owners of the soft Ales Hemsky and the terrible Dman in Jack Johnson. The only one he got right was Kovalev from Ottawa and everyone saw that coming.
No one saw James Neal coming; no one saw Marian Hossa coming.
IMO, Ray knows who he wants. He is just waiting now ... hopefully its not iginla. Jerome is a great player, but he doesn't solve the problem and he is a rental.

Check out the penalty shot attempt by the Ottawa player .. .near the 0:50 mark
NHL Hockey Recap: Final statistics from the Boston vs. Ottawa game played on March 11, 2013
If winning was easy even losers would do it.
I think he just meant elevated with the way the stick is controlling the puck. If he were to lift his stick up off the puck the goalie would just glove it, and he'd never get a shot at scooping the puck.
To my knowledge, I dont believe there are any rules. AD may know though.

Great comeback by the Pens. Pittsburgh played two very very good periods tonight. Brandon Sutter is the man!
Thank god for replay. Had to go to bed early and missed it.

"I like your head, it's a good look." - James Franklin, to a bald reporter asking a question.
Boston is a tough matchup. Very impressed with their pk. They don't give you any room. That said, that might have been the best two periods the Penguins have played this year against a quality team. Nothing on the board in the second, but they started to get things going with a solid forecheck and put pressure on the goalie.
Toronto again. I hope it doesn't go like last time. End it early.
I live in Pittsburgh... and I was talking about a veteran leader.... Lots of talk Crosby cannot lead with his voice... his play is excellent... just what has kept them from the cup is a strong locker room presence. Hence the desire to get a veteran who can help him. Remember Canada took his A for a lack of leadership in the last Olympics.
PENN STATE FOREVER
What's kept them from advancing has been defense, not Crosby's ability to lead. They have enough veteran leadership, most of them have won the Cup already.
just stating what I hear from their fan base and sports talk
Canada had three alternate captains for the Olympics: Iginla, Pronger, and Crosby. Only two players can wear the "A" during games. So those three players rotated wearing the letter A. Crosby was not stripped of his A for lack of leadership.
I really don't understand why people criticize Crosby's leadership. The fact that at age 20 he was named captain of the Pens, at age 21 he was captain of a Stanley Cup winning team, and at age 22 was named an alternate captain of a veteran Team Canada is more telling than what people that probably have never skated in their lives say about his leadership on sports talk radio.
PS: what year was the Beaver Stadium photo taken that you have in your signature pics?

Lots of young super stars get the C or A deserved or not.....
Crosby seems like a lead by example guy... you still need someone not afraid to to smack around a player not fitting in.
I have no idea when the pic was taken.... I am guessing mid 80s. I was googleing for new sig pics hahaha
I understand what you're saying about needing no-nonsense veterans to complement the "lead by example" type of captain. When the Pens won the Cup in 2009, they had two such veterans in Bill Geurin and Sergei Gonchar. But Geurin and Gonchar were on the Pens in 2010 when they blew the 3-2 series lead against the Canadiens, so I don't think leadership is the biggest issue. The issue is that the Pens haven't had a true shutdown pairing on defense since Rob Scudieri and Hal Gill walked after the 2009 season.
Geurin yes, Gonchar - only to Malkin.
Philafan should stop listening to people who call for Charlie Batch to start over Big Ben types of fans.
Crosby is revered around the league for his leadership during the strike. He has been in the limelight since he was drafted and never turns the media down for a comment. Speaks highly of everyone never criticizing players without including himself first all the time.
Getting in the face of a player isn't the Penguins philosophy. It is what got Therrion fired, and why Bylsma and this team is successful. It is a fun team to play for.
Getting in someone's face is what won you a cup.
I live just outside of Pittsburgh and you must be talking to the idiots who just listen to the morons on sports talk and regurgitate what they say. People like Cook, Rechichi, and their ilk have zero info of any substance to add to a conversation.Granted, there are many of those people, but that doesn't make what they say anymore true.
I know multiple season ticket holders.... just passing what they say. no one claimed Pittsburgh as a smart sports city
Sweet!!! just like old times, Doc calling the Devils game tonight
