Season starts tonight. My Phils are probably looking at another season around .500
Unfortunately, the Braves and Nats look very good on paper. The Reds, Dodgers, Cards, Dbacks and Giants should also be pretty to very good in the NL.
The top of the Angels lineup is just filthy. The Jays lineup is pretty great right now too. Lots of other teams could be pretty darn good in the AL (Rays, Rangers, Tigers, and Sox appear to be at the top of that list).
Could the Pirates avoid the second half collapse this year and actually end the streak? Could the Yanks miss the playoffs for just the second time in like 20 years? Could every Philly team miss the playoffs in 2013 ?
Philly is going to be better than you think. They have Howard healthy as well as Utley and Brown his ripping the cover off the ball this spring. I say they compete for the East this year.
Yikes, I'd be surprised. I hope you're right, but I doubt it. A healthy Howard at this point means what? .250/30 hrs/200 k's? Average probably won't be much better than that, hrs might get a bit over 30 if he's actually healthy all season. His defense is below average on top of that and he obviously has little speed over value baserunning. I mean, that's nice and all, but it's kinda just meh. Utley hasn't played a full season since 2009, but again I hope you're right. Brown looks great in spring training, but let's not get too far ahead of ourselves in that department, it's still spring training.
Assuming everything goes right, they could definitely compete. But the likelihood of Utley/Howard/Halladay/everyone else important all staying healthy is pretty low. I think realistically they could sneak into the second wild card with some luck, but I'd be pretty surprised to see them make the playoffs.
Also, are you from Levittown?
Think 2011 St. Louis Cardinals with this team... the similarities are scary.....
PENN STATE FOREVER
Dbacks? No way, Jose.
Nope Lewistown. Brown is also crushing lefties and Howard looks like he's in better shape than ever. If Rollins learns to not be a power hitter and stop popping everything up he would lead off. Until that I would put Revere at lead off

I guess they looked a good bit better before Eaton went down. They have a deep rotation though and their lineup isn't terrible. Should finish a little over .500 and at least be in the WC hunt for a while.
Revere should lead off the entire season, regardless of what Jimmy learns (and if he hasn't learned not to swing for the fences by now, he's clearly never learning). Revere has no power, but he slaps it around and is the best baserunner on the team. There is no excuse for him not to lead off. As for Jimmy, he's been the most consistent player on the team the past few years, so while he has his flaws, I'll take him.
If Rollins starts hot then he usually has a good season. When he starts off slow its a long season for him. Charlie won't lead Revere off. That's why he needs to retire and Sandberg needs to take over
I am looking forward to the season starting. I have two allegiances. My first love will always be the Cubs (I know, sucks right?) but luckily I'm also a Tigers fan and I can definitely get excited for the lineup the Tigers will be rolling out this year. Torii Hunter despite his age is still a pretty good player and getting Victor Martinez makes the middle of that lineup just downright crazy. Pitching staff should also be pretty good this year and it always helps to have the best pitcher in baseball going out every 5 games. The big weakness as was evident in the playoffs last year is the bullpen but I believe the rookie they are going to ease into the closing role can be a stud. I just am ready for some good ball again this year.
The Pirates season is done before it begins. The rotation sucks after McDonald and we have nothing but retreads on the bench.
The magic of opening day! Phil's are winning it all this year! Come back to me on Tuesday if you want a realistic prediction!
We'll be solid overall, contend for sure. Kind of a team in transition but still with. solid lineup top to bottom and a pretty good pitching staff. Finally comfortable with the bullpen for the first time in forever.

I think the Buccos are going to be worse than last year., but better next season. Asking a lot for Burnett to repeat last season, MacDonald got rocked by the AA club yesterday, Karstens and Liriano already hurt, don't trust Grilli as closer and that's just the pitching side.
Glad I have also followed the Jays since the early 80's, at least I may get to enjoy postseason baseball for the first time in a long time.
Dom should hit 5th against righties. He's a better hitter than young right now. And seeing delmon young in the lineup makes me puke a little bit. Reuben being Reuben.
Delmon should never play. Chooch should move up from 8th if he comes back like last year. Michael Young just isn't very good right now.
And asking for a "healthy" Phils lineup is asking for a whole lot.
I'm really looking forward to the race in the AL East. As a Red Sox fan, I am very nervous about how this year will go. At this point our season is based off of a bunch of what ifs, and hoping some players can have rebound seasons like Napoli, Lester, Lackey and even Pedroia. I think our bullpen will be better than last year, and I think our lineup will be much better. The big question is our starting pitching. I think we will win anywhere from 70-95 games, a lot of that depending on the starting pitching.
Don't worry, my Rangers got this.
The AL West is going to be awesome to watch this year. The only blatantly bad team is Seattle, and even they have King Felix and a few guys with potential. The NL West is going to be interesting too.
Why should we have to go to class if we came here to play FOOTBALL, we ain't come to play SCHOOL, classes are POINTLESS
I'm a Phillies fan and think they are shaping up to surprise people this year. I honestly think the Nationals take a step back this year. Seems like everybody is on their bandwagon to win the World Series this year. LOL. I just don't see it. I truly don't believe they are THAT good. Not saying the Phillies are either.
I think the Braves win the Division and Phillies the wildcard.

Nats are loaded. You are crazy if you think they finish 3rd. Maybe behind the Braves, but no way the Phils finish ahead of the Nats. Harper will have an MVP type of year.
Nats are stronger at most positions than the Phils IMO. Better rotation (especially at the back end), about equal up the middle unless Utley stays healthy all year, better at 1st and 3rd, better OF overall. Only areas the Phils are better are catcher (that's assuming chooch comes back fine) and back end of the pen with Adams and Paps.
Could the Phils beat them out? Sure. Will they? I'd be very surprised.
I guess we will revisit this in October. lol
Laroche isn't repeating that year for the Nats. Phil's are better at 1st, 2nd (please doubt utley shavi, hes gonna make you look like a fool), SS (Desmond's a better hitter, but I take into account defense and intangibles), and catcher with CF a toss up.
Nats pitching staff is better but I doubt they replicate what they did last year. Strasburgs a monster, Gios good for a 3.30 ERA, Zimmerman is good, Detwiler will take a step back, an haren is the wildcard (wouldn't surprise me if he's as good as Gio, wouldn't surprise me if he's worse than Lannan).
He's not gonna make me look like a fool. I've said Utley will be good IF he stays healthy. I'll stick by that. If he's healthy, the Phils are better up the middle. If not, I'd take Espinosa & Desmond over Rollins/hurt Utley/galvis/Frandsen.
Laroche and Howard I could give you a wash. Howard has gotten worse every year (although he's almost guaranteed to improve from an injury riddled 2012). But he has been showing major signs of regression every year since 2009.
I would actually give the Phils the edge at catcher. CF is a wash. RF/LF together is a huge gap in favor of the Nats, even if Domo has a good year.
Strasburg + Gio > Hamels + Lee (although you can't go wrong here)
Zimmerman vs. Halladay is all dependent on Halladay's healthy/velocity, which both don't look so good right now. Probably edge Nats.
Haren + Detweiler are much better than a Kendrick + Lannan/whatever other crap they might throw there at 4/5.
I think the nats are a pretty decent bit better on paper.
