He is only 40..... So pretty young. Looking at his career it screams a guy who knows how to make things work
PENN STATE FOREVER
I didn't argue with you, I gave you a reason. His youth won't really help him either.
This has been the first year the Broncos offense has really truly taken off, and it coincided with Manning. That isn't the end all to his chances, I think he's a guy definitely worth of an interview for most spots. But the interview will have to be HUGE.
I am of the opinion... unless you really suck as a coach.. in today's NFL you need that top end QB to win... So the quality of coach is less important than the QB... Did John Fox go from 2 wins to the best team in the AFC by being that much better? NO he had Manning.
Comparing what Fox to McCoy in this situation is just dumb. Fox had done something as a HC before in his career. And everyone knows that his owner refused to give him players in Carolina and didn't want to spend money until he hit reset. That said, I agree with you about having a great QB to win. But you can have a very good QB and still have a HC f*ck it up, even a HC that is a damn fine OC and mind. Just look west to San Diego.
I like Mike Zimmer, Saban, or Bruce Arians in that order. Any assistant, I don't want some dummy like Josh Mcdaniels who wants to pick option QBs in the 1st round just b/c he has head coaching experience.
Fox was at his best when Delhomme was.... Really what teams do well without the franchise QB??? and Yes Norv is an awful coach.... A guy like Wishenhunt strikes me as a guy who is average but give him a QB and he is OK. So to me... QB is a lot more important...
Only journeymeny to win a title recently is Johnson in 02 and Dilfer in 00... NFL is a different game now.
I'm with you on Zimmer. No way in hell on Saban. Arians would be OK if he wasn't 60. Eagles would be looking for another coaching in 5 years.
I'm on record with Grudog.
Sometimes I don't think you actually read what people write.
I agree with you.
So with the 4th... pick the Eagles select?
1. Chiefs: Matt Barkley QB USC
2. Jaguars: Manti Teo MLB Notre Dame
3. Oakland Raiders QB Geno Smith West Virginia
4. Eagles Jarvis Jones OLB Georgia!!!!
1) You never pass on a franchise QB if you don't have one.
2) You never pass on a franchise pass rusher if you don't have one.
Tyler Wilson if he performs well at the SR Bowl. Werner (FSU), Mingo (LSU), and Moore (A&M) are all pass rushers (outside of Jones who could drop big time on draft day regarding his back issue) that profile in the top ten right now. I know how you feel about a OT that early, and I don't totally disagree. I also don't think this is the year to do go for one that high anyways. Especially with the needs that the Eagles have. Also, I doubt the Jags take Teo.

My dream.... Is we draft a pass rusher and then Wilson.... Tyler Wilson is my love child pick
Most mocks have us taking Joeckel... I will throw up
So who do you think the Eagles take? Smith isn't a franchise QB (in my eyes at least). Guessing a pass rusher then?
No to Werner please. He was almost a non-factor against every decent team he played except Florida. Crushed Savannah State and Murray State though!
I would take a pass rusher if I were you. That said Tyler Wilson is my favorite QB in this class (not saying much really).
Jones will be interesting to watch. That spinal stenosis cost him his career at USC, it'll be interesting to see what NFL docs think.
All depends on if the new coach believes there is a franchise QB there. I don't think there's one to jump at in this draft. I'd draft Jones if the coach wants a 3-4. There's an argument to trade down as well, depending on how the draft plays out and how many holes they really have to fill (I could argue the only places without a hole on the team are Kicker and RB, maybe DT and definitely long snapper if they re-sign Dorenbos).
I'm with you on the pass rusher and also agree with the intrigue around Jones and what NFL docs will say about him. Wilson would be round 2 though, right? Watched him on TV a few times and definitely has the talent. Not sure its No. 4 pick talent though.
Ton of holes on the Eagles. I'd let go the entire secondary so trading down and taking Milner from Alabama might be an option. Also depends on what schemes the new coaching staff installs. If it's a 3-4 they're going to need some OLBs. I think Curry and Graham would be OK as 3-4 OLBs because they wouldn't be asked to cover much and would probably do so in a zone if they did cover, but I can't see Trent Cole being one. He fell way off this year and really if you look back he's historically worn down just about every season toward the end.
I have seen him as high as #6 to the Bills.... and as low as the third round... This draft has a LONG way to go to figure it out.... will be fun!!!
Is this a bleacher report mock draft?
Also why would a 4-3 team take a 3-4 OLB with a top 5 pick?
In my opinion, if you don't have a franchise QB and you have a prospect you think you can wait and chance it to pick him up in round two rather than with your first pick, he likely isn't worth picking as your franchise signal caller. That said, Wilson is likely a first rounder. Many think Glennon is, but he screams Kyle Boller to me.
Jarvis Jones could just as easily play rush end in a 43. He could also play a rush LB in the 43, likely. Sort of like what Von Miller is doing out in Denver.
My wild guess... and we are NOT a 4-3.... WE need to be a 3-4....
Graham and the R1 pick at the OLB.... Kendricks at the MLB... then sign a veteran 3-4 MLB.... Move Cox to the 3-4 DE.... sign Casey Hampton.....
3-4 PLEASE PLEASE
I wouldn't object to a 3-4, but I'd give Ryans a shot at an ILB spot. People say he can't play it because he struggled in Houston last year. Guy was coming off a major leg injury. That said I would definitely bring in lots of competition there.
