Hey ladies and gents!
As some of you may know, this is a special event that happens on the Sunday of Blue-White weekend in state college. The Beaver Stadium 5K will be held on Sunday, April 21st this year to again support the Special Olympics of Pennsylvania. Last year, the event had over 3,000 participants and raised over $300,000.
I will be participating in the event this year for the first time. I have been running and competing in 5K's for 2-3 years now, but I am especially excited for this event because of its ties to PSU and the course finishes on the 50 yard line of Beaver Stadium! I will be making a weekend of it with my fiance, BW game on Sat and the race on Sunday.
Anyway, the point of my post is to ask for sponsorship. My goal is to raise $500. As many of you know, the Special Olympics of Pennsylvania is near and dear to the Paterno family, especially Sue.
You can access my page at the link below. Thanks for your time and consideration. I'm definitely not asking for a lot, but if you could spare a couple bucks, every little bit helps!! BTW, my goal is 18:30 but I'm not sure how difficult the course is.
Done. And thanks for running for those of us who can't make it.
Going to run my first 5 k for the cause, sorry can't sponsor but kudos for participating. Agreed what a way to finish, running to the 50 Yard Line in Beaver Stadium! Good luck...WE ARE!
I'm really excited about this race. Not a big fan of 5Ks, prefer distance, but you can't beat the finish line. I think I talked my dad into running his first race ever too.
What better atmosphere??? Running with my freshman daughter and friend along with my family of PSU Grads! Culture!!!
Thanks, Mel!! Very generous!!
I agree with you guys that running through the tunnel and finishing on the 50 will be an amazing experience. Congrats to everyone else running and lets hope for great weather all weekend. Did anyone run it last year? If so, what was the course like? I know it would be tough to avoid a lot of hills on PSU's campus haha
If I'm not mistaken, Sean and Jeff both ran last year. I think Jeff opened up the gap towards the end for the margin of victory. I'm sure he can better explain. Also I think Franco Harris was at the finish line greeting everyone. Good luck to all who participates. Hope to see you at the Lions247 tailgate again on Saturday.
Sean/Jeff is this true?!?!? Are you guys planning on running again? I think it would be really cool to start a "Lions 24/7" team...I think its pretty easy to do. I know PS4RS has a team running. If there is enough interest, I can look into it and maybe we can get some 24/7 shirts or something to wear. Let me know!
That would be awesome
Yes, I did destroy Sean in last year's race and right now the plans are to run it again. Maybe I'll try to get some kind of Lions247 banner or sign so we can at least meet up in the stadium after the run. I have a feeling there will be a few posters participating.
Although, if you're running at an 18:30 pace, rummel, I'll be starting Mile 3 while you're crossing the finish line.

haha, nice. 18:30 is just my goal but I think I will be happy to finish in under 19:00.
Anyway, I went on to the site to try to create a Lions 24/7 team but I can only join a team that already exists since I'm already registered. Therefore, we need somebody to create the team when they register for the 5K.
If anybody is planning on registering in the near future, instead of clicking on "Join as an individual" click "Start a team" and register from there. That will automatically make you team captain. Once the team is created, everyone yet to register and already registered can join the Lions 24/7 team!
Just registered and created the team (Lions247).
From the numbers I've seen, the run raised over $360,000 for Special Olympics Pennsylvania. Great stuff.
For those holding their breath on the results, natural athleticism triumphed over "training" and "being in shape," and I bested Jeff by about 30 seconds.

That is great news on the first part. I guess we'll be hearing about the second part for another year. Sorry Jeff!!!

Site still links to the 2012 results, so here's the results for anyone who wants them.
Fitz tripped me. I have witnesses.
I've heard those rumors.
It was a great event and seemss to be vastly growing each year. I'm looking forward to participating next year and maybe we get get the Lions 24/7 team going. I pulled this link from Mel in the Twitter thread.
As Dave Moyer ran through the Beaver Stadium players tunnel and darted onto the field past his competitors, he got a taste of what it would be like to be a football player.
Don't be modest. I want to know, how did meeting your goal go? This is a great event to take part in.

Haha...well, I wasn't really anywhere close to my goal of 18:30. My official time was 19:07. More importantly, though, I raised $548, surpassing my fundraising goal of $500.
Congratulations rummel! Great job.
Sean and Jeff at the start of the run.
Sean, Jeff and Will Rummel after the run. Sean celebrating his individual victory.
Great job on both accounts!
