If OSU does match up well against a pro-style, so be it. Can accept that.
However, I'd also caution that our offense is 1) balanced, and 2) hitting on all cylinders. Like I said, I don't know much about the OOC offenses that OSU has faced, but I wouldn't say MSU is balanced or hitting on any cylinders. MSU's offense has been fairly pathetic, IMO, and that might not be the best example.
It will be an interesting game. Would not be surprised to see both teams score a good number of points.

The Father, The Son... well, it's the
The Holy Trinity... as I see it.
In "Scoring Offense", MSU was #102 coming into Saturday and PSU was #70. And in "Total Offense", PSU is #75 and MSU is #80. Wow. You said, "MSU's offense sucks.". So, where, exactly, does that leave PSU's offense?
Scoring offense is a useless statistic. Use Total Offense. Doesn't take into account short fields and turnovers. Shows if a team can truly move the ball.
Don't take my word for it:

Actually total offense (by yards) does take into account short fields. If you don't have to go as far, you don't rack up as many offensive yards. Now yards per play is certainly an interesting statistic.
I mean look at UF today. In the first half they scored 21 points on 29 yards. Iowa had more total offense tonight in the first half against PSU, but what would you want Iowa's total offense or UF's scoring offense?
Obviously there are holes in every statistical category.
No. Oklahoma-Notre Dame is much bigger.
This game will be insane though. I actually plan on doing Paternoville this week. So pumped.
Why should we have to go to class if we came here to play FOOTBALL, we ain't come to play SCHOOL, classes are POINTLESS
What do you mean, we'll see? MSU's offense sucks. That's why you shut tem down; because they are just horrible.
If you're comparing our offense to MSU's offense... I don't know what to say. They are completely different.

One thing that I think is imminent, Beaver Stadium is going to be out of control this coming Saturday when Ohio State comes to town. I'm hoping for an atmosphere that rivals the OSU game from 2005. 2002 Nebraska would be nice too! Matchups that excite me are our offense vs. their suspect D and our D vs their great offense. It's going to be a memorable game and I can't wait! I'm beginning to preserve my voice now and I hope every one that will be in attendance does the same thing. WE as fans need to make sure Beaver Stadium is rocking for 60+ minutes!!!! If your in section NK, get ready to be loud all game long!! Lets go. For the Glory.
"DOMINATE the state" - James Franklin 1/11/14
I read a couple of your message boards ( Hineygate and The O-Zone) and most of the Buckeye fans want to crucify Fickell and his defense. How do you feel?
Maybe, just maybe, Ohio State isn't as good as most on here would believe. Don't let your arrogance get in the way of telling the truth.
Oh, btw, the Conference really sucks this year! Right now, I would say Wisconsin, Penn State, and MAYBE Michigan are playing the best football right now, on BOTH sides of the ball.
My take on this game. OSU may have the worst defense in the Big Ten behind IU or Ill. They also have the best offense in the Big Ten. PSU on the other hand has a high end D and an above average offense. PSU's offense is now starting to click so those looking at stats for the year are a bit off IMO. If PSU can avoid the big plays and turnovers, they can win this game. If they turn the ball over and give Miller the ball back....they will probably lose. I also like the fact that this game is in HV and the kids on this squad don't fear OSU at all. They have a chip on their shoulder that goes way beyond any college team right now.
"One man didn't build this program and one man sure as hell cannot tear it down."
MSU's offense is so one dimensional its not funny. Shut down Bell, you win. It's pretty simple. If you can't see the difference between PSU's offense and MSU's offense, ...
I agree, scoring offense is a useless stat. If everyone played the same schedule, then it would be relevant.
However, bottom line and this isn't even up for debate, while we don't have Bell, our offense has greatly improved over the season and Sparty's hasn't. We have more weapons than does MSU too.

1. Pro-style? MSU? Only if you're referring to the Cleveland Browns.
2. Here's what should be giving you night sweats for the next week: Storm Klein and your fullback/LB trying to cover our TEs.
F the NCAA
F the BOT
Mich state is horrible on offense. Shutting them down isn't something be proud of.

PSU has favorable matchups on both sides. Our defensive weakness is the secondary, but OSU struggles to throw. Our offensive strength is the short/intermediate passing game, which is OSUs greatest defensive weakness.
BUT...no one has yet mentioned PSUs largest weakness as a team: STs. If it is a close game, it's tough to imagine STs not playing a huge part in the result. Outside 25-30 yds, we won't even attempt a FG. We lose a lot of field position with our atrocious punter. We don't feature playmakers in either return game. And we've allowed both a PR and KR for TDs in the past 2 games. I would argue that our STs could be amongst the worst, if not the worst, in the country. And they're not showing any signs of improvement as we progress in the season.
Not going to argue with what you said at all. I would be concerned with OSU's ability to block punts and FG attempts. They have a knack for that all of the sudden. Not a fan of the rugby style of Butterworth.
I was worried about special teams' play last night as well. Iowa had a major advantage - especially at FG kicker. That automatic kicker missed two FGs.
If we were average in special teams, not horrid, we are for sure one loss less.
They have already done a ND game and an OU game this year. I agree, its more important, but based on the circumstances with OSU and PSU and the way they are playing, I wouldn't be surprised if they come.
In conference play, Penn State is averaging 444 yds/game. MSU only 335.
OSU's defense (again, in conference) is giving up 392 yds/game. In comparison, Penn State is only giving up 247.
"Where does that leave Penn State's offense?" Have you seen a Penn State game? I have watched several OSU games and the stats do tell the story with regard to your defense. (And offense as well-451 yds/game)
p.s. I get my data from the NCAA website as well.

“We need to keep this (expletive) together,” Mauti and Zordich to Hill
Gameday will not be here for years ... they would be HUGE targets
Huge targets to who?
Don't think that matters. Haven't they done two South Carolina games?
I don't think that Gameday would bring out the best of some of our fans.
I think it could end up being a freak show of fans showing displeasure over sanctions in a way that does nothing but make us look bad.

Are you kidding me? Our special teams are just fine!!
Gameday has done 3 Florida games too. They pick the biggest game. 2 ineligible teams ain't it. They're going to Oklahoma.
Well, as a Buckeye fan if I take off my rose colored glassess.....
Our defense....we haven't got one. I'd bet money that when teams are in practice, going against air (no defense), they stop themselves with dropped passes and penalties about the same rate as the Bucks defense is able to stop them. Most teams we've played this year have had their best offensive output of the year against us. I'd also wager that when we play Illinois in two weeks, we will be the one team this year that makes Illinois look like a competent team.
Braxton - Superb athlete and extreme panzy. Passing skills are extremely limited and makes the incorrect read on run plays just as often as he makes the correct read.
I'll be very surprised if the Bucks stay within 10 points in Beaver Stadium this week. I'll of course be hoping that we come in very focused with a game plan that works out well and we get out of there with a W.
Appreciate the candor. I think our offense has a clear advantage over your defense. Your special teams have a clear advantage over ours. The only question is whether our defense can stop your big plays. I don't think you can sustain long drives consistently but that kid, Devin Smith, is pretty damn good and might be difficult for our DB's to cover. If we can't put pressure on Braxton, it could very well be a close game.
1) Isn't your offense considered pro-style?
2) your offense was only ranked #75 vs. MSU at #80.
