In his postgame remarks to reporters, Bill O'Brien could not offer a specific injury update on senior defensive tackle Jordan Hill, who left the game in the first half with what a team spokesman said was a "knee sprain." Hill will be further evaluated by team doctors but it is unlikely he had serious damage to any ligaments in the knee.
"Right now it's yet to be determined but he's moving around in there," O'Brien said of Hill. "We'll have to see tomorrow."
Penn State running back Bill Belton, who started each of the first five games he's played in this season, saw limited action and did not touch the football. Zach Zwinak made the start and ran for 134 yards on 21 carries. O'Brien was asked if Belton's absence had anything to do with injury.
"Belton wasn't hurt. I felt like you've got to earn it on the practice field," he said. "I felt that Zwinny (Zwinak) deserved the start. I was up front with Billy about that. I like Billy. I think he's going to be a starter again at some point."

I really live that O'Brien preaches and continues to practice that the best kids will play each week. No starting job is safe and you have to earn it each and every week. This is the mentality that will keep kids competitive and hungry all year. Week in and out you need to bring it everyday to play on Saturday. I freakin love it.

I like the mindset of making the players earn it every week on the practice field, the only problem is that free agency starts up again in January.
I believe that Belton has landed himself in THE DOGHOUSE
"...the only problem is that free agency starts up again in January."
Just thinking about that makes me want to....
You can't worry about that. Coach cant allow kids to hold that over his head as some type of leverage. If you aren't willing to work you don't deserve to start, I could care less if its here, or anywhere else.
You cannot cater to players because you are afraid of the leaving after the season. You want the best players andbl if they cannot hanlde some criticism and run when things get tough so be it.

If Belton thinks he is going to go somewhere else and not have to earn a spot he is kidding himself. All competitive teams go at least 2 deep at all positions. Even Lame Kitten and his easel can’t work around that!
Seccond, what if ZZ leaves because he knows he has outplayed Belton in practice? That would sux as well. I think coach knows that he has to keep his word and the kids who bring it on the field and the weight room will see more playing time. If not, he could lose his street cred in the locker room and his team.
I also like that coach plays the players who earned it in practice. It makes everyone work harder. The players that want to stay will stay. Can't say that any of the players who transferred really made an upward move. Got to like the way Zwinack and Zordich run. Zwinack turns a 1 yard gain in to five routinely.
Shame he wasn't here for the days of Morelli vs Clark....or better yet Devlin
F the NCAA
F the BOT
Or Rashard Casey.
“We need to keep this (expletive) together,” Mauti and Zordich to Hill
I would have settled for a coach that understood that the shotgun formation wasn't a fad.
