American Hero, Medal Of Honor receipent, Navy SEAL, Penn Stater... His story and documentary is going to finally be released. We should all be very proud as Americans and Penn Staters.
"I tell guys, 'Would you rather go to a Volkswagen dealership to get a Cadillac, or do you go to Cadillac?' "
-- LJ, Sr.
Excellenct to hear. The location of the mission he was on when he fell was roughly 2 clicks from my current location. That was a terrible day for American forces esp the Special Forces community. There is no greater gift then giving your life for one's country. Gone but not forgotten.
'Respect All Fear None."
Quickly and easily falls into the must see category. People too often act like it is much to hard to say 'Thank You' to our service men and women, when it should be a privilege to have a chance to even do so iyam.
Suck It Emmert!! and "Sorry for not being sorry for being a Penn Stater" - Philafan
Yes I read about some of his efforts in a book that was awesome and chronicled the firefight with him and his team in the mountains. He was a hard charger for sure and it made me even prouder that he was a lion!!!!
Do you remember the title of the book?
Seal of Honor: Operation Red Wings and the Life of Lt. Michael P. Murphy, USN is the one about his life. Lone Survivor is all about Operation Red Wings and was written by the only man on his team to survive, Marcus Luttrell
If you guys haven't already heard this, google "Marcus Luttrell 911 call". A couple punks killed his dog, and he calls 911 as he is chasing them. It is a good listen.
The full version of the 911 Call Former Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell made after some punks shot his dog.

No problem. Murph's dad actually came to speak with us in the fall of 2010 when I was in NROTC. By far one of the best moments of college so far.
Just listened to the whole clip. God bless that man. To have gone through what he did and then have his dog shot too? Must have seemed like the world was against him.
Just got book off recommendation of this thread. Half way through already. Awesome book
Haven't read the first book you recommended but Lone Survivor is still to this day the only book I could not put down once I began reading it. Read the whole thing from start to finish in one sitting. Awesome, awesome, awesome book. They're coming out with a movie for it this summer starring Mark Wahlberg. Cannot wait!
"On paper they have nothing to play for– no bowl games, rankings, or championships– yet they play like they have everything on the line."
Been floating around the board for awhile but thought this was a good time to post. I actually meet Murphy a few weeks before he died, got introduced by a mutual friend/acquaintance who knew we both went to Penn State. Only got to speak to him for a little while but was incredibly impressed by him, he was a great man and leader, blessed and lucky to have meet him.
I will never forget that day, it was one of the worst days I can remember while there a lot of good men lost there lives but like it was said before there is no greater gift.
I will say this as a Marine I am not a big fan of anything Navy related but I do wear my USS Michael Murphy hate with pride.
Welcome to the board and thanks for your service!!
Thank you for your service. Are you still active duty?
“We need to keep this (expletive) together,” Mauti and Zordich to Hill
I am looking forward to a motion picture as well as long as they pay tribute to the service members that fell that day and that the film makers don't blow out the story by adding stupid Hollywood flair. Serving in the mountains and valleys of Afghanistan is gritty, demanding, and heartbreaking at times. It is one of the most unique areas I have ever served. The book Lone Survivor is a good testament of the battle that took place that day like I said I just hope Hollywood doesn't botch it.
Judging from their recent efforts in the war movie genre I have very very low expectations. Black Hawk Down is still the best modern-era war movie.
Also if any of you saw videos from the Taliban's perspective of the fight where Murphy gave it all, as well as the aftermath, take comfort knowing that the film was taken from their ventilated corpses.
Yea I'm not a huge fan of modern-era military movies possibly because I'm still living that life, but I don't know. I hear ya though.
I'll be reading that one next. Read "Lone Survivor". Fantastic book.
Semper Fi and welcome.
Yeah, I have a hard time imagining how I would react to someone doing that to my dog. Just crosses so many lines. If it wasn't such a serious situation, his banter back and forth with the 911 operator would have been almost comical. I don't think she was prepared to deal with someone that wasn't going to stop just because she told him to.
There are a few problems with most war movies, the first is that it is extremely hard to convey the intensity of war and the true life or death struggle it is. The second is people really don't want to know what war is like, so Hollywood continues to give people this romantic perception of what they believe people want to see. My favorite war movies are Black Hawk Down, We Where Soldiers and my favorite Full Metal Jacket. I would also throw in while not a movie but my overall favorite HBO's Pacific.
Just listened to the tape. I'm impressed with the guy and I never even met him.
Agreed. Has anyone seen the show on National Geographic Channel called Inside Combat Rescue. It follows Air Force PJ's on location in location on their rescue missions. I would say it is the best show on TV right now.. It takes all glamour out of war and shows the true sacrafices being made.
As for Lone Survivor, it was the only book that I could not put down. Incredible.
PSMarine - Thanks for all you do, we appreciate it.
"It's Premiere Day!!!! I want to thank everyone for your support to make this day possible. I will guarantee you this, when you leave the theater you be inspired to be a better person and you will find that our world is a lesser place without LT Murphy in it."
SEAL of Honor by Gary Williams written about Michael Murphy
"I like your head, it's a good look." - James Franklin, to a bald reporter asking a question.
I ordered both books yesterday for the kindle. I'm already 3/4 through Seal of Honor. Great read.
