Do you know if it applies to student who completed a degree?
I would think that it would. Now, that doesn't mean that Kenney has to take the discount... he could not accept any aid.
I don't know if the B1G instituted that or not. However, it doesn't seem to effect recruits at Bama, LSU etc. I am fine with it myself. Academic scholarship holders have to perform to keep their scholarship, why not athletes on an athletic scholarship? These are kids who wouldn't ever receive a scholarship, and a lot even be admitted period let alone to main campus as a freshman if not for football and athletic ability. So if they don't perform on the field why should they keep their scholarship?
Try to fathom the hypocrisy of a Government that requires every citizen to prove they are insured .but not prove they're a citizen
It really doesn't matter because coaches rarely ever just dump a kid. They simply tell them that if they stay with the team, they will be 3rd string or worse their entire careers. They then offer to assist them in finding a new home. Problem solved. 4 year scholarship? Sorry, the kid "wanted" to transfer.
IMO they are basically cutting that kid. But I see your point.
They are. It's just a wink, wink way of doing it. I guess my point is, while the Big Ten and other conferences can enforce a 4 year policy, there is no way in stopping that. And why should there be? I wouldn't exactly call that a bad thing either (actually it's quite opposite). If the kid really wants to stick around for a couple of years as a blocking dummy, that's great. 95% of the kids aren't going to do that.

So who on the current roster fits both criteria?
a) projected backup
b) 1 year left of eligibility after this season.
It can be kids with more than 1 year left. For 5th year guys, they may simply not be asked to come back (Kenney and Bars). Those with more years that that... it's difficult to tell. It would just be speculation.
I'd say after next spring, for those with 2 years left and still not in two deep, they might be likely candidates. Fagnano, Kiley, maybe others that get jumped on depth chart.
It's the internet. It was made for speculation. I realize there isn't a set depth chart, but picking up info from different articles I looked at a speculative 2-deep.
I've narrowed a speculative list to:
Jesse Della Valle
* Bars & Kenney you mentioned
* Della Valle & Keiser are both walk-ons who earned scholarships. Could they lose them again? maybe.
* Baublitz has shown improvement, but DaQuan Jones and Nate Cadogan are listed as Seniors. There should be a 2-deep spot next year.
* Gilliam was just moved to Tackle to add depth and Gress is a SR, so he's not going anywhere. I assume he'll develop into the next 2-deep.
* Belton could prove versatile enough even though he might technically be 3rd on the depth. I'm sure he's safe.
That's my bubble team.

PSU's official roster
Keiser and Della Valle will not get a scholarship next year. I didn't even consider them because there is no way that they get one (unless we get under 65 before the season).
I don't think any of those three "bubble" guys you mentioned will be asked to leave/transfer. If they are not here it will be because of not wanting to be here or because of something they did outside the football field (not implying anything here).
Just let it play out... I'm willing to bet this will be a lot easier to figure out at the end of spring 2014.
Thanks for the feedback. Good to know I didn't screw up the estimate. I'm sorry if much of that was common knowledge, The personal benefit for that research was so leftcoastlion can't yell at me anymore for not having a spreadsheet.
Oh no, it's cool. Just bouncing things off ya.
I'm still waiting for the spreadsheet. Haha.
Did JDV get put on schollie this year? Just curious as I only saw Lehman and Keiser that were announced. Only asking so I can keep my sheet accurate. thx.
I don't know for sure. The pennlive.com link in my post above took a guess at the 67 scholarships mentioned by OB. It didn't sound definitive.
According to BWI he has one. It doesn't matter though for this year... they can give them out like candy to junior or senior walk-ons if they want.
Thx jive, Grue, I realize that they dont matter this yr, just a little OCD with things ....Helps when looking at things like when OB says 67 (incidently the number I have without JDV) etc.

If the parent was employed for less than five years, an athlete getting a tuition break would be a counter. .
