I am extremely excited to see what BOB can do with a QB who has more physical tools than McGloin.
Whether we get Waters or Bench starts, I'm actually looking forward to seeing how our QBs progress. Something nobody could EVER say under the old staff.
Why should we have to go to class if we came here to play FOOTBALL, we ain't come to play SCHOOL, classes are POINTLESS
Current students like the OP make me laugh when they talk about how much they hate MM because they know him or know of his antics off of the field. I guarantee you that you wouldn't have hated Kerry Collins if you were in school back then. MM is borderline Opie compared to the terror Kerry was in his time here. But Kerry was accomplished on the field so most people really didn't care all that much. If you don't like MM's on field play, that's one thing. But to still rip him in part because of off the field reasons doesn't make much sense to me.
"A lion does not concern himself with the opinions of the sheep"- Glenn Carson
Where did I rip him for his off the field antics in this thread?
I wasn't even the one who brought up the fact that I dislike him personally, that was another poster. I kept my posts strictly to his on the field play in terms of criticisms.
Clark had the same exact crap said about him minus the arm strength. Most of it was from those that were from a certain part of PA where a certain QB was already on a mantle for those folks. He didn't end up starting and DC could never do anything to win those people over. It was personal for sure. The same exact crap happened with MM for the most part. The problem is MM is on pace for 3000 yards, 20+ TD's, and less than 5-6 INT's. It's one thing to say he's missed some plays or forced some balls, but he's simply not the awful QB some had made him out to be. I tip my cap to those who can man up and admit they were dead wrong about him. A few can't and never will for some odd reason. I guess it was that they were so far off in judging thet talent on the field it's a bitter pill to swallow. I think one or two take not ripping on him as putting him in the HOF which isn't the case. He played QB for PSU in the darkest hour and did it fairly well. If people want to keep on hatin because they have to...that is on them.

"One man didn't build this program and one man sure as hell cannot tear it down."
He is having a good season, but I still stand by my points made in the OP and I think he could be having a better season.
By "few" you mean me?
Give us a call when Collins gets beat up by his own teammate in the locker room in his 4th year in the program, and is then lauded for his leadership and maturity.
No one has ever received more free passes in this program than him. No one. The fact that he's improved to become an average QB makes him somehow above legitimate criticism in the eyes of some.
Makes you wonder how his me-first attitude and show-off antics would be received by the fanboy brigade if his name was Malik Monroe and he was a few shades darker.
Excuse me for having high standards for the football team I root for. I'm not going to give him a free ride because he didn't transfer to Colorado.
Yes, he has had a good year, but that doesn't mean the things I said weren't true.
No, not you Texas. My point is a few make it personal and can't separate it for some reason. He could be having a better season, but if I told you this is where he would be in terms of stats this season 4 months ago... you would have taken it in a NY minute. Every player who has ever played could have had a better year and I get that. He still makes mistakes, but as I've said so many times...ALL QB's make mistakes. ALL QB's force balls from time to time. ALL QB's have had days. The best on the planet have done what he has done, but some lose that perspective I guess. Those thinking a better physical speciman and BOB automatically equates to a better offense are in for a rude awakening IMO. I hope like hell Bench or Hack can hit the ground running, but I think it will be a year or two (which is expected) before they hit their stride.
Good point as I still have an email from one poster on this site calling DC a racist name before he ever started because their boy who was so much more talented didn't win the job. Sad when some make it so personal with kids they don't know.
My fault, sorry for jumping down your throat.
Very true. I wouldn't have imagined that McGloin would be playing this well, no matter the circumstances.
As far as the other QBs, you may be right. I'm still excited to see what O'Brien can do with those guys. He has worked wonders with McGloin so far.
GIve them a few games to get their feet wet as they will be the ones making the dumb plays the next few years. You also have to hope they work as hard as MM has which isn't always a given.
Hackenberg's first collegiate play will be a 65-yard scoring TD that his a streaking Allen Robinson perfectly in stride 10 yards out from the endzone. He will then proceed to throw for 55 TDs, 1 INT, and a 97% completion rate.

For some reason I'm thinking Morrelli's first play was a big TD bomb of 55+ yards againts a MAC school...so I'll take a simple hand off to ZZ for 5-6 yards or small pass to Carter for a few yards just to be safe.
No, Kerry just got into fights with other students so it was all cool right?
Of course it's not cool. It also had nothing to do with my point. If you're implying that both Matt and Kerry were douches at PSU, I agree. So was Millen, so was LJ, so was Richard McKenzie, and on and on. A major difference is only one (guess who) is heralded for his leadership and maturity; none of those guys were lauded as paragons of virtue, because they weren't and shouldn't have been. But Matt is and is even above legitimate criticism (see the original post and a few of the non-sequitur responses). He's been here 5 years and we was pretty much at rock bottom in those departments, so good for him. You just wonder what many of these posters are smoking.
The biggest issue for me with all of this, is that the attitude was there right from the start....WAY before he even accomplished anything significant on the field. That is what turned me off to him early and it hasn't changed since (as far as attitude and "leadership.")
I don't disagree that even good QB's get angry at teammates and things, it happens. But he has always seemed to try and play up this "me against the world" mentality way too much since the beginning, and even now. To me, though, there is a difference between Brees, Manning, Cutler, etc... Those guys are pros, they all get paid for what they do, which brings a certain expectation level. I think it's a little more acceptable (to me), for those guys to police teammates than it is at the college level.
I've been relatively quiet on the anti-MM talk this year. He has played well so I kept my mouth relatively quiet about the attitude, because that is still there. I agree with the OP that I wish by now there were some things he still handled better. I would have supported him as a person from day 1 if he didn't have the 'tude he always did. I supported him this year as the QB, but still have a hard time doing it as a person.
I love people like you who think anyone that gives McGloin credit when he deserves it is a "fanboy." It's really sad. I really don't have a problem with people disliking him even if they don't know him. That's your right to an opinion. The inability to give the kid the slightest bit of credit for any success he has is what blows my mind. I guess if you blasted him for years though you have a tough time admitting the kid's doing something right. I thought by now most of the hatred you guys have for McGloin would have subsided.
Fact is I don't know the guy personally. He does exude a certain air of cockiness and I find that offstandish. But having never met the kid personally, I reserve judgment.
Another fact is that MM is a fierce competitor. And so is BOB and so is the other MM and so is the entire squad.
Sh*t happens when egos and competitors go sideways and it happens among members of the same squad. Moxie seems to be the kind of guy who would rather put up than shut up, ergo the imbroglio in locker room last season.
I've competed in organized sports throughout my youth (never at the collegiate level). We're all fans, more fanatic than most on these boards because we pay to be here. That makes us all competitors too.
Matt may have some anger management issues, but he's not as messed up in that regard as LJ Jr. was.
October 12, 2013. PSU 43 - UM 40 (4 OT). Unfortunately this fan wasn't around long enough to see it!
Actually I posted here after Iowa that it was his best game of the year and career, and that the best part of was not the stats, but limiting mistakes and putting us in a position to win.
"Fanboys" are people such as yourself who are unable to even tolerate legitimate criticism, like the original post. He's improved greatly, but he's a .500 QB at PSU and doesn't show up against better teams. All fine and true, but folks like you simply can't take it. You even start "McGloin: Heisman candidate?" threads when we are 1-2 with a win over Navy. Guess I'm a hater for thinking that's a tad ridiculous.
Btw, my nephew was on the team from '07-'10, so I know more than most and a lot more than you wish I did about young Mr. McGloin.
PM me. Inquiring minds want to know!
All that aside, who is the girl in your profile pic?
The Mox throws for over 200 yards, 2 tds (yep) and one pick on the road against one of the best pass defenses in college football in high wind conditions and people cry. He's not a great player, but he has been good this year. People just don't like him because he has a bit of a$$hole to him... who cares. McGloin led the offense to 30 points (yep) against Nebraska on the road. That's pretty satisfactory.
Not only did I not start that thread, I didn't even comment in it. Nice try though.
What you think are "fanboys" are simply people who give him credit when he deserves it. I've never once said he's a very good quarterback, let a lone heisman talk. The point is that people like you refuse to accept the fact that he's having a good season. You'll look for any excuse not to give him credit and any other person to give credit to.
I actually know him. I'm not friends with him, but unfortunately for you, you don't know more about "young Mr. McGloin" than I do. At the end of the day, who cares?
That would be 23 "Official" pts. and assuming the PAT is good on the Lehman TD....= 30.
Two turnovers inside the 10 however is not going to beat the caliber of a NEB team in Lincoln.
