Guys, I know the injury to Mauti hasn't been discussed much, certainly amongst the staff, as they wanted to keep things with Mike and his family. As many of you know, I write for one of the Washington Redskins sites, and yesterday, we got into some early draft discussion. Mauti's name came up, and I was reluctant to speak on his NFL status, saying only that the injuries concerned me with his NFL future.
Personally, I would love to see this guy on the Washington Redskins(or any other NFL team)if it is his wish to play in the NFL. I was curious if anyone had heard anything on the injury, and any planned surgery? I wonder if he even plans to pursue an NFL career.
I had him projected pre-injury in the 3rd round.
As for the other Penn State prospects, I have them projected as follows:
Hill - Late 2nd - 3rd
Hodges - 3 - early 4th
Stank - 6th - 7th
Morris - 7th - UFA
Stanley - UFA
Zordich - UFA
Massaro - UFA
"A bowl game ain't nothing but a vacation." - Gerald Hodges
I know its biased, but Hodges in the 3rd-4th would be the draft steal of the century...
I could see him being the next Bowman. Middle round pick that absolutely blows up on the scene.
I agree too, I think Hodges is a late 2nd - early 3rd pick.
As for Mauti - somewhere in the 3rd (pre injury), now with the injury, maybe 6th or 7th if he's lucky, JMO.
No way Hill falls to the third. Admittedly though its early in the process.
If the injury causes him to go undrafted I could see Him in New England.
agree with this.. he is the next Navorro Bowman.. whoever drafts him would surely be getting a steal! I would love him on the Cowboys but we already have Lee and Carter (All-Pro Linebackers come next year- STAY HEALTHY) not to mention Dan Connor
I would agree with Hodges as the next Bowman. Both run sideline to sideline and are good in coverage and tackling. IMO:
Hodges: late 2nd
Hill: early 3rd
maybe a suprise late round with either Mauti or Stank.
Mauti before the injury would have been early 3rd, now though who knows. If he doesn't get drafted he will def sign with someone and shine as long as his knees hold out.
'Respect All Fear None."
I think Stanley gets drafted in the later rounds if he does well at the combine (provided he gets an invitation), which I think he does.
“We need to keep this (expletive) together,” Mauti and Zordich to Hill
I talked to a scout yesterday and told me that he still thinks Mauti gets drafted but it would be late. He said Hodges could find a way into the 2nd round, but right now, felt he was more of a 3rd round projection. He said if Hodges tests well, he could be in the 2nd but if the draft was today he is a 3rd round grade. He said Hill would be a 3rd to 5th round guy. However, he said scouts and teams are worried about his size or lack of it. He said he plays like a 1st round kid and there could be teams that move him up to the 2nd round but thinks he is more of a middle round pick. Right now, he did not think the other PSU kids would get drafted. He told me that he thinks if he gets on the right roster, Zordich could make a team. If more teams played with a fullback and valued the position, he would have a chance at getting drafted. He also said if Zordich could learn how to longsnap, he could play in the league a long, long time. He also told me that Morris got a lot better from his junior year and he could be a guy that develops into a pro. He said he wants to see how he tests out. He said he thinks Stank is too small and will have issues making it out of camp.
It is still early and they all have to play in the all star games and get tested out. So, a lot will change. If I hear anything else, I will pass it on.
I think Stanley gets drafted. Probably by Oakland.
Thanks for the run-down MillerLatte.
It's interesting to hear where Hodges grades out at present. Hopefully he tears it up at the combine and or working out for scouts to work his way up to the 2nd round. Hill's size was always worriesome for me, even when we took him. I didn't think he'd be able to be a quality DT at his height be he sure has proved me wrong in that department. It's a shame Hill is short because he has a motor like no other and just knows how to wreck havoc on offenses. Transfering that to the pro game will be difficult though.

"DOMINATE the state" - James Franklin 1/11/14
Hill reminds me a lot of Kyle Williams (Buffalo Bills).
Undersized but quick, a "penetrator" DT as opposed to a fat guy DT.
Depending on his combine, I could see him anywhere from late 1st to 3rd round.
Hodges -- 2-4 round
If Morris runs in the 4.4 range, and height is 5'9" or better, he could go in the 5-7 range.
Others are probably 6-UFA.
JMO, I think he is a 4th round guy,Jordan reminds me a lot of Anthony Adams (who was a late second round pick). However, Jordan will slide because of factors he can't control. Like Miller said you have to be concerned about size. Hill definitely looks maxed out size wise and still is only in the 290 to 310 range. Second, I think Hill's best fit is in a tampa-2 style defense. Not many teams run it, so it will limit the teams that value his skill set in the higher rounds. Finally, this year's draft could be very deep at DT - if all the Jrs come out. He is going to be a steal and probably out perform many above him, but its just the way the draft works (potential and scheme fit).

Nice comparison. Williams is bulkier, but yeah - they've got similar frames and high-effort play. Williams was drafted in the 5th round, I believe (though Ralph Wilson was rumored to want him a couple rounds earlier).
I think personally think Hill is later 2nd(but I am a little biased)but combine and pro day will tell us more.

Right now I see Hodges in the middle of the 3rd. I don't think he goes 2nd, but I could be wrong.
I think Hill is in the 2nd round.
As far as Mauti goes, there's a long time between now and the combine. The amount that he was jumping up and down makes me think his injury isn't as serious as initially thought (not a complete tear). If he can recover, and show something in the combine (or even the East-West Shrine Bowl/Senior Bowl), he could really boost his stock.

October 12, 2013. PSU 43 - UM 40 (4 OT). Unfortunately this fan wasn't around long enough to see it!
I think Mike Farrell will get drafted. A year or two on the taxi squad and he could be a solid tackle.
Drafted? I doubt that. Maybe he can be signed as an UDFA
I heard the ESPN usual suspects saying pre-injury Mauti could have went as high as late first round but more probable in the second round. Post injury they couldnt imagine anything other than UFA.
Hodges will likely be the 1st PSU player taken, LATE 2nd, gone in the 3rd. Hill is a 3-5 guy right now. this is a deep DL draft. Mauti is probably in trouble with his knee getting hurt again...
We've had quite the affinity for the Nitts in recent years, so that wouldn't be surprising.
