I hope Bob pushes for change, one way or another. The status quo is unacceptable.
+1 +1 +1
there is very little fan base in Michigan, Minnesota and Wisconsin also. East hockey would be awesome!!!
East Hockey has BC, NH, UMASS, VT, PSU fans all over those states
Oh look fanboy bullshit with no talk of the reality of things. Shocker coming from you. Hey all we need is heart and we can get to the ACC everyone!
As a fan, sure... Step up and be proud.
From a business perspective, we're not a good acquisition target for anyone until the smoke clears and we clean up the mess that the Board created by fiddling while Rome burned.
As a conference, what sense does it make to take on all of the risk that's associated with picking up PSU when you don't know who's going to be running the school in a year, you don't know if there's going to be further fallout from the dispositions of the curley/schultz/spanier trials, and you don't know how many other factors will continue to pile on to the mess we have? I'm not saying that the B10 is this great and wonderful place, but it's where we are, and it's no worse of a place as any other to ride out this storm.
PSU isn't some great hot commodity right now. It's more like a hot mess, and the idea that if we were no longer in the B10, we'd have major conferences lining up to bring us in is honestly laughable to me. We don't even really have any good leverage to barter a good deal for the school. Switching conferences now would be the epitome of "selling low".
Unfortunately he's right, right now we need the B1G's $ and they need our fanbase, exposure, and access to eastern markets. I think we all need to suck it up and realize this is a marriage of necessity right now. I would love to play schools like Pitt, Syracuse, BC, etc... but right now we are essentially stuck in the B1G so we should just try and make the best of it.

Dominate The State
Clearly with a brand new hockey arena and the owner of the Buffalo Sabres pulling the strings, yeah, we'll totally be a non-factor in the conference. Please. B10 hockey is the first time that PSU actually gets in on the ground floor of something the conference is doing, and you want to trade that to be an afterthought in a New England dominated hockey league?
Big 10 basketball has the ESPN deal to fall back on. PSU wrestling sure as hell gets a ton of exposure on the BTN. I know I watched a ton of PSU matches last season on the network and look forward to doing it again. The B10 would be stupid to not go big on televising conference hockey, and with the team that PSU has already been assembling, it seems to me that they're looking to fire out of the gate and be competitive in the conference right away.
The only thing that's foolish in this entire thread is the thought that somehow out there waiting for us in every other conference that isn't the B10 is this amazing deal where PSU will be honored, respected, and showered with accolades that we are somehow proactively preventing ourselves from receiving by staying in this conference. We'd be outsiders and 2nd class citizens in ANY conference we go to right now. I don't really understand how dealing with OSU and UM is any different than it would be having to deal with the North Carolina bureaucracy in the ACC. These conferences all have their power brokers in place. PSU doesn't get to show up on day one and immediately get invited to the good 'ol boys club.
no talk? did you read my other posts? I am a fan of that post, cause I agree 100%, and a huge fan of leaving the B10 for the ACC. It all talk anyways, but this is a board, isn't that what this is for?
ask a question if you care, I will answer it. If you don't like this board, don't click on it. I don't agree with a lot of your posts, but I move on, I don't need the attention.
You are a Republican, your bully talk reminds me of a Corbett type
Disagree, not a big fan of old boy network in the Big, but to think there isn't one in the ACC, you gotta be kidding. I lived in NC for 8 years and still own a house there, it is all about UNC, Duke and State, and they are about BB. The new stadiums built in Chapel Hill and Raleigh are nice, but nothing like what PSU has and most Big schools have. They are lucky to pull in 60k for a game, when winning. Football and basketball aside, the two do not compare for non revenue sports. Wrestling is the Big, Gymnastics, VB, Fencing, all better in Big, Swimming, Track and field and Baseball all better in ACC, but also dominated by them bc they are warmer weather states. Do not see the love affair with the ACC and doubt we would be welcomed by them now or later.
Take our lumps and beat the crap out of the Big.
When reasonable discourse fails, invoke McCarthy.
I like your style.

And your complete confusion and lack of talking about monetary importance leads me to believe you're a union member, probably a teamster, who sits on his ass all day. Luckily for my office we're about to take a piss on our union's next contract.
Its nice you'd rather go all those fun places. Sweet. That doesn't matter. In fact, I agree with you that in all the things that don't matter very much PSU is a perfect fit for the ACC. But in the one thing that does (money, in case you were lost) it isn't a match. The second the money makes sense, I'll root for PSU to be there.
But hey keep living in the land of fairy tales. We all know those come true. Wait no they don't. The princess gets knocked up and the prince cheats on her with his busty secretary. This aint candy land.
We are not a good acquisition?
What is wrong with the old fashion buy low, sell high? This is the perfect time to switch conferences for the conferences sake. So to say that no one would want to buy PSU is wrong, IMO. We will once again be the 3rd most valuable college football program (and prob. athletic department. Only conference we wouldnt be the most valuable would be the Big 12 aka Texas conference) once the sanctions blow over, and whoever we will be with will be extremely happy)

"Whoever’s trying to kill me isn’t getting the job done. But one day, I’m going to punch that f___r in the face."
Still think your selling PSU value too short, it's not as high as it once was, thats easy to see. I don't see it going up anytime soon either, but a hot mess? Thats extreme, the fans are still supportive, football team isn't dead yet, still getting national coverage. I hate the B10, sorry, thats my feelings, and many others agree. I have no idea what is best for PSU future, I know what would make me happy. Thats getting out of this overrated conference and move on to the ACC, so I can go to away games and see Duke and NC play in the B Jordan center. I would be happy if it could ever happen, but it won't, and we are gonna still hate the B10 around here.
what do we make a year from the B10? and what would we make from the ACC? since I am in candy land, what are the facts? you got all the answers? Tell me. I'll wait
If PSU wasnt as valuable as we are, then we wouldnt have just about every game nationally televised on the ESPN channels. I thought BT teams could only have a certain number of games on ABC/ESPN, but Indiana and one other game earlier were the only games not nationally televised (yes, even the ESPNU game with Purdue was nationally televised).
I have a serious questions and I am not being a smart-ass or condescending when I ask it. Its not meant just for you but for everyone.
At what point does the money not make BIg Ten membership worth it? We all have principles and a line that we won't get pushed across. What is PSU's when it comes to Big Ten membership? Surely there is a point in time when the money just isn't worth it anymore, or will money/greed rule out forever?
Of course no one knows that answer, just curious how far the money will carry.
In this case, in order for another conference to "buy PSU low", PSU would have to be selling low. And selling low is exactly what you don't want to be doing. We're currently in the largest "value trough" that this university has ever seen. Our ability to bargain a good deal for ourselves is currently as low as it's ever going to be. Allowing another conference to "buy PSU low" is about the worst position the university could possibly put themselves in.
When the market for your commodity is down, you don't sell it. You ride it out, and look to sell when the value is heading back up. Unless, of course you think your commodity is never going to go back up. Then you just get out and never look back.
I get what you're saying and understand your desire to move. The fan support, facilities, and national coverage are great and all, but the back office mess is going to keep people at arm's length for the forseeable future. I don't like it any more than you do, but at this point, it's the reality we have to deal with.
A better offer than the one we've currently got isn't going to come.
we may not have a choice here. going after maryland adds nothing to the BIG unless they plan on dropping penn state. god i hope the BIG makes this mistake.
Minnesota, Michigan and Wisconsin are all national powers and to a lesser extent MSU right now. So, you think PSU, a new program and a new arena will be on equal footing with those that have all that history and are NCAA tournament teams every year? Keep telling yourself that.
I'm starting to think your really have no clue regarding collegiate hockey. PSU's presence in Hockey East would be a heck of alot better than being in the BIG.
Agree to disagree ...
The funny thing that Minn, UM, Wisc, and PSU all have in common is that it's the first year in this hockey conference for all of us. I think it's a reasonable belief that we'll at least have an equal voice in the conference, since this is basically the first time that PSU is involved in a B10 conference sport from its inception, as opposed to being added in after the fact. And honestly, with the money that's being put into the program and the way that recruiting has shaped up, I do think PSU will be very competitive from the outset. I'm not saying that PSU will own the conference, but I do think we'll be in the discussion all year.
You say that PSU in Hockey East would be better than the B10, but you don't say why. What would PSU bring to Hockey East that it wouldn't bring to the B10? What would Hockey East do for PSU that the B10 wouldn't? Why is New England a better overall place for hockey than the northern midwest? You say I have no clue regarding collegiate hockey. By all means, please educate me.
PSU will be in the discussion for conference champ all year? Less likely than the PSU football going undefeated next year.
So, would a that be more or less likely if PSU was in Hockey East, then?
What does that have to do with my post? Thinking PSU has a shot to compete for the Big 10 hockey championship in their first year is absurd.

I said that I thought that PSU would be competitive in the conference. I'm not holding out expectations of winning the conference, but I do think it's realistic that PSU will do well for a program in it's first year, thus keeping it in the discussion throughout the season. What Hockey East has to do with it, is I'm trying to understand how people think that conference would be so much better for PSU hockey than the B10, since that's being so heavily advocated for in the thread.
I had to look up hockey info too, I am not an expert on hockey.
Hockey east isn't a step down, from what I read anyways
