True, and based on what we've seen/heard it looks like Joyner will be groveling at the feet of the newly hired president (whenever that happens), begging to be kept on. Fortunately the new president will have no allegiance to Joyner and will dismiss him summarily after looking at his resume.
dickRod, unless he becomes demised, will be here for the remainder of his current contract and not one day less.
October 12, 2013. PSU 43 - UM 40 (4 OT). Unfortunately this fan wasn't around long enough to see it!
You apparently have all the answers, if only everybody in the PSU admin knew what you knew everything would be great!
Dominate The State
I run a multi billion dollar business and there is no way I wait to hire a CFO who needs to be replaced because the CEO is retiring in 18 months. That is not how business works. This AD job is an attractive position. Certainly one of the top 20 jobs in the country. There are going to be many interested and qualified candidates. Whoever you hire as president is going to get the staff that is there. Are we holding out hiring other senior positions? An AD can easily protect themselves with an employment agreement. Again this idea we can't hire someone is silly to me. It's an excuse to keep Joyner around because Ericsson knows he can depend on Joyner not to undermine him.
You could take it the other way;
That PSU is announcing that Joyner's tenure has a very definitive end and he will NOT be the AD when Erickson leaves.
All the more reason to get rid of Erickson.
So you're trying to tell me that if you were planning on taking over a company that you would want the leaving CEO to hire a CFO knowing full well that you have no idea who the person is? Conversely, as said CFO, you would want to take a job where the person hiring you will be gone in 18 months and you have no idea who your new boss is and whether you would have a good working relationship with? I could understand if PSU's AD had been there for 10 years and was successful but that is a different situation. We have a guy who's been around for approximately a year. This happens all the time in the NFL. A new owner or GM comes in and fires everyone and brings in his own people. Why should PSU be any different?
So you are saying you would have preferred to have someone other than Joyner in charge of the search committee that hired Coach O'Brien. He also was able to keep Coach Washington and have Coach Sanderson sign a contract extension. Not bad for a two year old.
Yes. He is the biggest asshole on campus. Also many were part of who got bob. Joyner is using this as a last cash cow because he want bankrupt. He is in this for himself not psu. I would take a lawn mower guy over this asshole any day. By the way thank a certain former eagle is the reason why we have bob.
100000%! Joyner has no business being the Athletic Director of one of the largest state universities in the country.
We shouldve put someone competent in this position instead of the good ol boy network. Sounds like you are family of one of these bufoons if you are defending the defenseless.
Please explain to me the qualifications that Dave Joyner has to run the Penn State Athletic Department?
"Whoever’s trying to kill me isn’t getting the job done. But one day, I’m going to punch that f___r in the face."
What i am saying is it is not about what the CEO coming in 18 months from now wants. It is about what is best for the company today. My duty is to my stakeholders not the next CEO. So yes I would absolutely replace the CFO now. And any CEO I know would as well. In our situation the president of the university should be focused on the best interests of the university.
This.......I totally understand the hate for Erickson, but arrogant or not, Joyner is responsible for the best wrestling coach in the NCAA and the guy who just won coach of the year for football, being at PSU. Oh, and a total unknown at the time in Obrien, a hire that was blasted by most, including myself. I could give a sh** about Joyners ego, so long as he keeps making home run hires.
Also, when and AD and President leave a university, the football coach usually isnt far behind them, in many cases
This is not one of those cases unless psu would hire a new president set on destroying athletics. Psu needs to much money to make this happen. Bob got hired knowing president and ad were short term. An doing it the psu way means not being an asshole.

Once again, please explain the qualifications for Dave Joyner as the athletic director of The Pennsylvania State University? He is not even capable of being the AD of a kindergarten gym class.
BTW, Sanderson was hired before Joyner became AD, and I would put more stock in the search committee and even Ron Jaworski as to why we have OB and not Joyner. Joyner almost ran OB out and will if he continues to be an asshole.
So you think O'Brien was lying through his teeth when he called the press conference to say he gets along just fine with Joyner. I'm curious as to exactly what it would take for you to believe that the rumors were all wrong. Denials by all the parties involved, along with a vote of confidence in Joyner from the administration, apparently mean nothing to you. So what would?
pretty well documented that Joyner is the reason Sanderson is here, and search committee and Jaws(funny)may have had their input or shared an agent, but Joyner had as much to do with it as anyone. Happened on his watch anyhow.........so tell me, what exactly do you need for qualifications to become an AD?
One year ago, go look at the posts about Dave Joyner and what a badass he was.....what has changed? You heard a rumor that Obrien didnt like him?
You'd be hard pressed to find the documentation you are referring to. Ira Lubert is the overwhelmingly main reason Cael is here, that is far more documented than Joyner. I guess you could say that Joyner was at least involved. You know, he sat in on the meetings at Ira's SC house. The one where Joyner is a boarder since he is a bankrupt, failed surgeon. If those aren't qualifications to run one of the biggest AD's in the country, I don't know what is.
The bottom line is that even if you don't believe the rumors that multiple coaches at PSU dislike him, he is in no way qualified to hold the position he was handed. But when you are asked to be Judas and fulfill your task, you are rewarded in certain ways. I'd like to think he had trouble sleeping last night for his role on November 9, 2011, but the evidence suggests otherwise.

It makes complete sense to hold off on hiring a new AD until the new president is in office. I'm not sure what some of you expect.
For myself, how about having a qualified person take over the interim job a year ago. If not Marc Sherburne, who it should have been but he didn't fall in line with the Board's whitewashing agenda, then another asst. AD who had experience in this field. But that's just my answer to your question.
Realistically, what qualified person is going to take a 1 year interim job? And what would they accomplish in a year (where they would likely have zero power)? It just doesn't make sense at all.

Here is how you boot Joyner based on corporate speak.
Regardless of the past and opinion of Joyner, I think that most can agree that its time to plan transition to the permanant ad. An AD who is experienced and has the seasoned skill set to manage and 'maximize' the potential of an Ath. Dept of psu's scale.
Joyner had "led" us thru the time of crisis, now its time for a different (more conventional) skill set.
Someone who is currently an asst. AD. They step up and help out their university, get the experience and resume bolstering, and know their present job is waiting once the permanent AD is hired next year. Your post makes me wonder if you are currently a student, or actually have a career. If it's the latter, it should make plenty of sense to you.
It doesn't because there is virtually no benefit to being a lame duck AD if you are already an assistant AD. It's like when a coordinator handles the HC duties for a bowl game when the former HC left for another gig. Rarely does that turn into a permanent HC job (or sets them up for one down the road).
But, let's be logical about this. 99.9% of the public has not heard about the BOB/Joyner rumor. What message would it send to get rid of your interim AD just bring in another interim AD? It just doesn't make sense at all. It's not going to happen.
I'm not sure what you claim to be "well documented" is actually well documented. There are some insiders from various sights who are all relatively consistent in saying Dave Joyner is a current problem....whether he knows it or not.
I am no insider but its pretty well known that while Dave Joyner was the main face of the hiring of Bill O'Brien, he was hardly acting alone...and Washington and Sandersen are mainly Tim Curley hires.
Let's not forget that Tim Curley made Sandersen the highest paid wrestling coach in the country and was able to sell him on the 4+ million dollar Lorenzo center constructed in 2006 which was a significant sign of Penn State's commitment to wrestling. Lets also not forget that PA is a hotbed for wrestling and our athletic department resources make Iowa State look foolish.
Problem with what, though? I have no real issue or opinion on Joyner, I just dont understand how he fell out of favor so quickly, or what he messed up?
Here were Joyners credentials on this forum just one year ago, and widely celebrated as the interim choice:
Dave Joyner is the epitome of what success with honor is all about.
Dave knows at least four things well:
1. Football (all american at PSU).
2. Wrestling (NCAA wrestling finalist at PSU)
3. Medicine - and in particular orthopedics and sports medicine (Hershey Medical School and orthopedic surgeon as well as physician for the US Olympic Team).
4. Penn State (PSU grad, academic all-american, and long time resident of State College).
Dave led the search for a new wrestling coach and we got Cael Sanderson.
