The defensive tackle, on a conference call this morning, said he saw Urban Meyer at a couple of practices last season. He seemed to indicate it was right around the time (a week before or a week after) Paterno was dismissed, but didn't specify. Meyer was in State College prior to the Oct. 8 game against Iowa as a member of the ESPN/ABC broadcast team. Hill said that he had heard rumors Meyer would be the next Penn State coach but didn't know if he should believe them or not.
Some other notes from Hill ...
-- He said Eugene Lewis, who played quarterback in high school, is playing the part of Braxton Miller in practices this week.
-- He said Ohio State had briefly recruited him, then backed off, but that he always knew he wasn't going to wind up there. Called the Buckeyes the "best team" Penn State has seen so far and said he considers Ohio State to be Penn State's biggest rival.
-- Hill said he's playing with a greater sense of urgency because he knows he only has five more games as a Penn State player.
-- Asked what the biggest thing Bill O'Brien has brought to the program, Hill said:
"A winning mentality. He wants to win and he wants to win now. There was no coming in and just getting your feet wet and trying to work into things. He brought in a game plan and what he wanted to do with this program, and he's done everything that he's wanted to do. He wanted to win and he's doing exactly that."
-- Hill described the mood after the Virginia loss:
"We were really in disbelief, because it was the first time since we've been here (the seniors) that we started a season 0-2. We knew we could put something together. Coach O'Brien kept stressing to us once we hit one (one win), they're going to start rolling and that's what's happening now."

I'm so glad O'Brien is our coach and not Meyer. Meyer would have been nice because of his recruiting but I prefer a pro style offense. I get real sick of seeing teams like Oregon and Ohio State run shotgun every single down.
I am really not sure Meyer's recruiting would be much better than what O'Brien is doing...
Either way, recruiting is improving over what it has been...
That right there is the biggest difference between this staff and the old staff.
4th and inches? Go for it. Not punting inside the 35 against OSU.....
Recruiting certainly would have been much better last year with Meyer filling in late.
yea, but who knows if Meyer would have kept the players together like Coach OB did.....I am glad we have OB over Meyer.
He would have bailed after the sanctions without question.
And his newly minted recruits would have tagged along with him.
Don't get me wrong, I very much agree. I think UM would have bailed by now or be phoning it in. Just saying, recruiting would have been better in the 2012 class after someone said recruiting would probably be the same.
It wouldn't have mattered, those kids he would have brought in would have bailed with him.
Inches? Billy goes for it if there's YARDS to go, sometimes a lot of 'em. He's not one to leave anything on the table in any game. I think that's a big lesson he learned in Charlottsville.
Recruiting would have def. been better under Meyer however I don't believe he would have stuck around once the sanctions were handed down. I also prefer a pro style offense b/c you can recruit the best QBs to an offense like that.
Dominate The State
Oh wait, you mean Urban was interested in being at PSU, just as much as he was OSU? I could have sworn those Buckeyes said he was a lock the whole season...
I don't want to start a whole can of worms, and I think you guys all know me well enough to know I'm not a bullshitter and won't blow smoke up anyone's asses...
But I can say with certainty that Hill specifically was told a lot more than simply "rumors about Urban Meyer at Penn State," that he "wasn't sure if he should believe them or not."
There was no question about believing them or not. He was convinced that Urban was the next head coach at PSU as was I as a direct result of his words prior to November.

BS! Meyer was interviewed IN COLUMBUS and said he never considered PSU! Why would he lie? What would he have to gain?

“We need to keep this (expletive) together,” Mauti and Zordich to Hill
It's ture my dad belongs to the Elks club in Boalsburg, and the guy's he play's golf with said that this time last yr. that Urban even bought a house in Boalsburg , so he was interested in being our next coach, but when everything broke about Sandusky things changed in a hurry.
di/didn't or was/wasn't, I'm thrilled he ISN'T now and Bill OBrien IS .personally I don't feel Urb fits the situation as Bill likes to say. He may be one helluva snake oil salesman, but not sure he could handle what has gone down. We have the RIGHT one and for me, that's all that matters this week!!!

WE ARE and ALWAYS will be...... RIP JVP
Don't get me wrong with what I'm about to say, I love O'Brien and I think now and in the long run he is going to be a better fit for PSU, but if Meyer takes the PSU job I don't think the NCAA penalizes us as harshly. It still would've been bad but I think we would've seen something more along the lines of USC's sanctions than essentially the double dose of that we ended up getting.
Meyer was probably there in some capacity with ESPN.
Lol,What You On Drugs? No way in hell we are 5-2 w/out BOB, you can say all you want about meyer, he will be never ,ever be the coach bob is,meyer is nothing but a liar. i wake up every day thanking god BOB is our coach wouldn't want anyone else leading us to the top.
I think he's talking more along the lines that the NCAA doesn't hammer us as hard with a name guy like Meyer in there. To that end I think there is some serious truth to. He did say he thought BOB is the best fit in the long run.
Otherwise, while I am so far thrilled with OB I'm not ready to crown him over a two time national champ.
And of course, all coaches are liars. Part of the game.
No, but I think your reading comprehension needs some improvement. Did you even read my post? I didn't address on-field performance. No argument from me on O'Brien being better, if you actually read what I said.
My point was that with someone as recognizable as Meyer leading the program, I don't think the NCAA comes down as hard. Just my two cents, I don't necessarily expect widespread agreement on that.

I get you're all fired up and I love me some BOB....but Urbs is one of the best college coaches in the game. Not saying BOB can't win a title here when sanctions are over, but Meyer is a hell of a coach and a comparison isn't really fair right now.
This makes me feel dirty.
