Suck It Emmert!! and "Sorry for not being sorry for being a Penn Stater" - Philafan
people need to vote. If you haven't done this yet, take 30 seconds to register. Just send a quick e-mail or make a quick call. The ballot will be e-mailed to you so voting is REALLY easy. feel free to copy and paste the bullet points below right into the e-mail and add your personal info.
Alumni may request a nomination or election ballot by sending an e-mail to BOT@psu.edu, including the following information:
- complete name at time of graduation (maiden name included)
- year of graduation
- college and major
- current e-mail address (where you would like to receive ballots)
- mailing address
Once your alumni record is qualified, a ballot will be sent to you electronically. Alumni who receive the nomination ballot will automatically receive the election ballot on April 10. There is no need to send additional request to receive a ballot. Alumni who have no internet access must call (814) 865-2521 and provide the above information. Once your alumni record is qualified, a ballot will be mailed to you.
Thanks guys! I just emailed my ballot request. Let's see if we can make a difference.
not good enough... make sure you contact at least 3 other alums and get them to register too! ;)
I'm sorry. I will both boo and vote.
I can't vote since I'm not an alum, but given the voting restrictions (seems to be a lot of people you can't vote out), I would say booing is necessary on some levels.
I just sent it everyone in my address book that are alums. Also sent it to friends who love PSU and can help spread the word,

Is there a listing of who is running anywhere so we can do some research before the ballet comes out?

For those of us who don't know who's running, can someone let us know who to vote out and who to vote in? I'm looking for Lubrano types who will most effectively/publicly speak out against the wrongs committed by the current BOT. Promote a review of the freeh report to seek the truth, stand up for our culture, and challenge the NCAA.

First, one seat is open because someone stepped down. The other seats are currently held by Suhey and Stephanie Deviney. Suhey, despite being a player under Joe, has been severely criticized for his roll in trying to get Joe out as early as 2007. He recently tried to claim that they didn't "fire Paterno", they just "let him retire 3-weeks early". He needs to go. IMO, Deviney is worse. She did not attend PSU undergrad and was Dickinson law graduate in 1997. PSU didn't merge with Dickinson until 2000, but one of the stipulations was that all Dickson law grads would be considered PSU alums. SHE IS NOT A PENN STATE ALUM other than a technicality in the merger agreement. She has also been foolishly trying to defend her inaction time and time again and just looks worse and worse. For a good laugh, check out her facebook page "re-elect stephanie deviney to the penn state board of trustees". She is getting ripped to sheds and is 100% out of touch with the alumni (probably because she never attend penn state.....)
if that is the platform you are voting on, check out PS4RS.org as I think you'll find their mission similar to yours. They are currently holding a primary election to determine the 3 candidates they will endorse (of the 6 picked by them). You can register with them for free and vote in the primary if you'd like. PS4RS has something like 15,000 members which is far more than the total number of votes in past elections, so whoever they endorse will have a lot of support.
I'm in favor of voting for people that are going to work hard and protect the university, putting the university well before and personal or professional loyalties and not strictly based on Paterno, the NCAA, or other Sandusky related issues. That's certainly a huge issue to factor in, but I think we have to be careful to vote in people that aren't just running because of that mess. Having said that, with 39 candidates, it's going to be vital that those who want change first and foremost consolidate their votes to beat the incumbents. 15,000 votes is a lot but divided somewhat equally amongst 39 candidates is less than 400 votes per candidate. we can be sure that the incumbents will get their cronies to vote and probably end up with more than 400 votes.
Personally, I'd check out PS4RS, read the candidate questionnaires they put together for each candidate to answer, decide who you like, and vote in the primary. once the 3 endorsed candidates are announced, you can decide for yourself the balance between voting for your personal favorites and those that will likely get the majority of the votes to make sure yours counts.
