I don't think you understand that we don't disagree really. Go back and look at what I originallyy said to bills.
Also, the staff wants guys who can do what they need. When you get into college schemes, it isn't just "good football players are good football players". Its "can they do what we need them to do in their role". I like Delando, he would have been offered by now, after sanctions. Not my call.
I think we all get that our pool of possible players is shrinking. BOB and Co. have been doing this in tiers. Delando will know where he stands soon, I'm sure.
I don't think you get what I'm saying.
For this year's recruits, Indiana has a shot at the national championship. The chances of it happening are slim, to put it nicely, but every kid on that team can at least have "national championship" for their goal. Even if the chances of it are slim, just the fact that there is a chance, and they can have that goal, is a BIG difference for kids who are competitors.
While YOU might think that only Alabama, LSU, and USC have shots at the MNC, the kids playing on many of the teams think that THEY have a shot at the MNC -- And that's what matters.
And regarding the guys that stuck at PSU (i.e. Hodges and Mauti -- and many more), for them, at this point there is more to it. Like us, they now have a bond to their school/program that is strong. Very strong. Heck, for Mauti it's in his family bloodline.
I'm talking about "competitors" that don't have those other intangible factors.
I do understand what you're saying. I think it's great a program has a goal like that, but the school he wants to go to (Oregon, not PSU), chances of an mNC are very slim for a team that gets as much hype as they do.
The teams with realistic chances this year, at least IMO, are USC as the favorite, with the SEC champ (LSU, maybe Bama) coming in second. OU has an outside shot, as does Florida State. I don't see any school in the country beating USC or SEC champ in the mNC. I'll admit OU would probably lose the game if they got there, as would FSU, but they'll be in the game with a chance for a title. If he wants to give himself a realistic shot at the NFL, Oregon is not the place to go. The best LB they've produced recently has been Casey Matthews, and that's pathetic.
The things Oregon has over us is hype, weather, and women. PSU hasn't changed, still a world class institution, and a great school for producing NFL players, especially LBs.
Why should we have to go to class if we came here to play FOOTBALL, we ain't come to play SCHOOL, classes are POINTLESS
Oregon was the last non-SEC team to get a crack at a MNC. WIth the 4 team playoffs (which would be an awesome experience to play in) they probably have to win the PAC North, and win the Pac12 title game. That isn't a long shot.
More than just football
I don't mean to be a d*ck here -- really I don't -- but no, you don't understand what I'm saying. If you did, you wouldn't have written the post you just wrote.
Let me put it another way....
It has NOTHING to do with what YOU consider "realistic" chances at the MNC.
It has everything to do with having *A* chance -- even if YOU, Texas Lion, deem that chance to be unrealistic.
In other words, to a real competitors, having a 0.00001% chance of winning a championship AND HAVING THE OPPORTUNITY TO AFFECT THAT CHANCE is LIGHTYEARS better than having a 0% chance of winning a championship and having NO opportunity to affect that chance.
Now, obviously there are other factors that go into even competitive kid's decisions (depth chart, tradition, coaching staffs, NFL opportunities, etc.), but the inability to even have an effect on the team's chances of playing for a championship is huge HUGE HUGE.
When Issa verballed, Penn State afforded him that opportunity. Today, Penn State does not afford him that opportunity.
And since he has no other ties to PSU like Mauti (time on the team, relationships/bonds with the school/players/students, family bloodline) or Hodges (time on the team, relationships/bonds with the school/players/students), this is an even bigger factor. The only factor? No. But a big one indeed.
I imagine we should still be around for 5 years, atleast for Sean's sake.....Maybe fellow locals can back me on this but the kid has been rotated around 5 positions since his sophomore yr...his camp has been off the charts, watch the game slow down this year for him and then get back to me
Im about as local as it gets. I live less than 5 mins from CD and i coach with friends/co-workers of Coach Mac. Im not saying he isnt talented. However its a huge jump to annoint a hs kid as an NFL lb especially when he doesnt even want to play Lb in college.
No, Bama doesn't throw out offers like Ole Miss; Florida; Auburn; South Carolina and Georgia.
Mac thinks he's an NFL LB....so we shall see....interested to see how CD does this year....he and Scales are going to rip people up

I love 247sports and 247sports loves me.
Ive only seen Hershey and LD practice so admittedly Im not as up to date on the mid penn as I usually am. That said, CD returns enough that they should win their division without much problem. Not sure what CV has this year. Mcd might actually be better than last year though.

F the NCAA
F the BOT
CD should be good. They are preseason #1 in the state in AAAA.
They have a home game with bishop mcdevitt (#3 inAAA) next Friday so that should be telling.

“We need to keep this (expletive) together,” Mauti and Zordich to Hill
How's Nelson looking?
I live in the LD district. Not getting my hopes up that they will ever be competitive, but I don't care. Not from there, just moved for family purposes.

I guess im crazy but I think if PSU looks good this yr a few kids who decommitted will reconsider and i put Isaah in that group.
Easy now thats my alma mater. When I was there we were more than competitive. Nelson moves very well for his size.
Oh I'm aware of LD's history. When I was in school I pulled for LD each time they played Manheim Central in AAA playoffs.
Thanks for the quick report on Nelson.
When I played we were AAAA. Some of those games vs MC were epic though. No prob on the update.
At the same time, what would be more memorable in 20 years?
Going to (Whoever) and winning a MNC in 2015, or being on the NCAA ravaged 2015 PSU team that went undefeated in spite of it all?
An undefeated PSU team under sanctions would be remembered FOREVER and not just around here. The members of that team would be legends. There would be movies made about it and books written. The guys that are staying get that.
Yes, the chances of that happening are very slim... but not 0.00001%.
Would the staff have to make a decision between Delando and Buddy Brown?
Winning the championship.
Somehow they won 44-0 today.
Haha - yeah, I was keeping tabs on the game online. Was going to post something at you. Hopefully that bodes well for the upcoming season. I certainly do not want to see LD suck at anything. I'm hopeful that my girls will be playing sports for LD in the coming years.
If your girls play field hockey they wont be sucking ever at LD. Coach Kreiser is phenomonal.
